  1. It will be interesting to see if MTS addresses any of these castmate issues in her upcoming book... According to Jeanne. Ed Scott seemed to fuel this by focussing way too much on Melody in setting up of scenes and ignoring Jeanne also.
  2. Australian TV to show Classic B&B 50 eps https://tvtonight.com.au/2020/04/best-of-the-bold-and-the-beautiful.html
  3. Casey was mentioned as having breast cancer and Nikki went to see her, I think this was when MAB first took over.
  4. Re Melinda Cordell Add General Hospital - Sgt Tanner b/w 73 - 80 Re Mark Roberts Add Search for Tomorrow
  5. Maybe he had become more accustomed to the rigors of daytime by that stage. Wasn't there some talk that Granger was swiftly dropped at OLTL due to inappropriate behavior towards a younger castmate?
  6. Re Casey, I have in my mind that she randomly appeared in 1989(?) testifying at a trial.I think it was Cricket's rape trial . Out of the blue Dr Casey Reed is called to testify after not being seen for ages. Am I imagining this? Does anyone else recall that?
  7. So true. Edge always had a rep for cheap sets but looking at the August 79 eps the house set had a full staircase leading to a second level, rather than the dinky staircases seen on other soaps (then and now). And April and Drapers home had a period style with a definite flavor, rather than the generic stuff we see now. It's a big beef of mine that todays shows are still writing like its the 80's without the budget to back it up. They need to go back to a more intimate approach.
  8. Thanks for that insight. Yes you're right - had AW had a solid core going into the 90 min and used the expansion to build up the Matthews and Frames and have them as a springboard into new characters it might have had more success. Instead they seemed to write off a bunch of people and replace them with unrelated newbies. Also as you said the logistics played a part - I think I read they had 2 shifts operating. So it was unlikely that an actor would be asked to work both as it would be an extremely long day. Therefore the show operated in 2 halves with little crossover.
  9. Mon Jan 20 1977 All 3 networks covered Carter inauguration 10am - 4pm (CBS gained the best ratings) Football pre-emptions Tues Jan 1 1957 Orange Bowl football Wed Jan 1 1958 Cotton Bowl football Th Jan 1 1959 Orange Bowl/Cotton Bowl football
  10. My apologies for any confusion. I misread my own notes. Those confirmed Cotton Bowl pre-emptions should have been Mon Jan 1 1962 Tues Jan 1 1963 Wed Jan 1 1964 Still checking others... Can confirm that CBS showed Cotton Bowl Fri Jan 1 1960
  11. Wed Jan 1 1964 Cotton Bowl Football Game Thurs Jan1 1965 Cotton Bowl Football Game Fri Jan 1 1966 Cotton Bowl Football Game Mon Jan 20 1969 Nixon Presidential Inauguration
  12. More pre-emptions Tues April 9 1968 Martin Luther King funeral Fri Oct 11 1991 - Clarence Thomas hearing.
  13. If you read her book, you can see how and why Mary was so protective of Jo and the show itself. In the early days they were all learning together and having input into scripts and direction. When the Hursleys came along and there was anew director/producer she realized how the balance could change. She was told to butt out basically and felt that her involvement had been misinterpreted as interference.
  14. Checking the Ratings from the 70's thread, there are some ratings from early 79 indicating that AW was already out of the top 5 when the 90 min expansion took place. The Sven storyline wrapped up by Feb 78 and AW began to drift down during 78 as GH gained momentum and GL was strong on the back of its expansion in late 77. Anyway, I suggest posters check out the ratings thread for more details.
  15. More pre-emptions 1961 Fri Jan 20 Presidential Inauguration 1963 Mon Nov 25 President Kennedy funeral 1965 Wed Jan 20th Presidential Inauguration
  16. I'm going to be a bit random with entries, but as I uncover dates I will post them. I hope I'm not posting stuff you have already have. Mon July 25 1960 ATWT pre-empted for Republican Political Convention.
  17. 1970 pre-emption Fri April 17 Coverage of return/splashdown of Apollo13 spacecraft.
  18. Victor met Casey first, years(?) before Nikki and showed an interest but I don't think it was ever referenced when Nikki and Victor got together. I believe Victor acknowledged that he knew Casey but that was it.
  19. In this interview Burton was on GL and happy with the work environment there. I agree re VW. Also, she was so identified with Rachel that the other shows may not have been interested. And there were not many roles available in that age group. Remember, she pulled out of DOOL when she realized the part was miniscule. can't really blame her I guess.
  20. January 1 1958 was pre-empted for the Orange Bowl football game from Miami.
  21. All of these actors were past the Rauch era. From reading about Rauch/Lemay there seems to be a definite pecking order and Watson, Wyndham, Ford and McKinsee were highly regarded. I think part of that was reflected in the writing in those days - pretty much everything revolved around those characters, even more so when ratings started to drop. I guess by the time Burton came along that was quite entrenched and maybe some of the actors believed that they were responsible for the show's success and not happy about now being part of a faltering show, with so many others coming and going. It wasn't until 82 that Cass,Felicia, Donna came along that there were new characters that actually stuck around.
  22. in a 1983 SOD article Warren Burton (Jason Dunlap) called AW 'horrendous' and 'the most awful time in my life, in the business' He said a lot of the problem may have been his own. ' People at AW were isolated from each other. Certain people would have favors extended to them that others wouldn't. And the echelon, if that's the word for it, was well marked.I mean you knew what your status was. I don't believe in stars on soaps, at least not backstage. i certainly don't believe that one puts more work into it than another. I think it's all a body of supporting parts. There's no better example, I think, than someone like Susan Lucci. who couldn't be more popular with the audience, but who pitches in with the rest of the cast, sharing the work load and joy without special attention. There(AW) you were made to think like it was the old A movie and B movies system. It was not a happy place. So, in fact, i finally gave my notice, and I'd never left a show in my life. Why do the names Paul Rauch and Victoria Wyndham spring to mind?
  23. Re Eleanor Phelps Her obituary states she also appeared on Edge of Night, Search for Tomorrow, As The World Turns and Guiding Light. Her GL role was in 1983 as the woman who sold her house to Henry Chamberlain.
  24. I think that was Doug Martin, another of Eunice's husbands. I wonder how Mary Stuart felt about the changes. Her last husband had been killed off, her daughter written out and her sister murdered. Jo was losing her place on the canvas and it was only going to get worse...
