  13. Bill and Susan complained that Doug and Julie were written as the 'grouchy' parents opposed to Hope's romance to provide an obstacle and give Hope heroine status. They felt that their attitude to Hope was out of character. Also, in being reduced to being Hope's parents and not given any context of their own. When they were told that there were no plans to change their diminished roles they chose to leave.

Selleck was featured in a number of pilots over the years before hitting the jackpot with Magnum, so I guess there was a quality about him that got him cast - that charisma that Khan referred too. I guess those years gave him the opportunity to refine his acting and it all came together in Magnum. Maybe for the first time the role was tailored to suit Tom - remember that Magnum was not the macho Mannix type lead.
  21. I remember Al Rabin(?) saying that they were aware that Bo/Hope were leaving months prior so began easing them off and bringing other couples to the forefront to make the transition smoother.
  22. The recast of Rick from Michael Gregory to Chris Robinson occurred in 78 after Monty had taken over. Also Gina being recast with Donna Bacalla taking over from Anna Stuart was during Monty's time. and I think Alice Grant also? But these all occurred early on in the Marland /Monty era and were deemed necessary for the overall structure of the show.
