  1. I'll post some pics of her on The Survivors in the primetime soaps thread!
  2. Re Carla Borelli She also appeared in ABC's 'The Survivors' in 1969, in scenes with George Hamilton
  3. Here's a shot from the pilot of the original Allison - Gyl Roland (daughter of veteran actor Gilbert Roland). How things would have been different for her and Mia had the switch not happened..
  4. thanks for all your replies. Here's Nola #2 and #3
  5. Speaking of Michael - Paul, I've never discovered how he came to have that name? Can someone fill me in. Thanks. Also on names how was it explained that Lew became known as Luke.?
  6. So today we had a location shot with Sara in a park. Was that the first time TD ventured outdoors? There was no dialogue so pretty basic and cheap to tape I assume. Later there will be another extended location shoot as the climax to a big story...I wonder if there will be visuals only?
  7. re Scarlet Hill I have Ruth played by Jill Foster (!) but IMDB has her playing Eleanor?
  8. Re Henry Simmons Add 13 Bourbon St Fox pilot
  9. Don't give Fishman any lines in the live ep...
  10. I recall Afternoon TV mentioning Pat would be part of an AW spinoff with a Boston locale, tying in with Lee Paterson. can't recall how far ahead of the Texas announcement that was.
  11. Apologies for those weekend dates. They were taken from Soap Opera Weekly, but perhaps I was hasty in jotting them down.I'm going to have to go back and check.
  12. Of the flipside, launching all the Texas characters in the AW leadup would have made it harder for a new viewer who was not watching AW to jump into Texas on Day 1. The problem launching a 60 min show is that there are 20 plus characters and several stories being introduced. It would be better to focus on a smaller number of characters and stories for the first few weeks and then branch out. I realize that logistics wise that would be hard to do but would be beneficial to the overall launch.
  13. Suggestions Henry Simmons Phyliis Somerville Olga Bellin Susan Pelligrino Beverly Todd
  14. With hair to match. He and James Storm are putting the ladies to shame with their manes. The commune scenes had more extras than are ever seen at the hospital or the Medicine Man. Maybe it would have come off less cheesy if the cult members had biblical or 'ancient' names rather than Moonchild/ Far Wind etc. And dressed in simple clothing rather than flowing robes...
  15. Previous to this he was on Search For Tomorrow as Arthur Benson, who was some sort of investor/producer in a movie based around Steve Kaslo's song 'You Can Love Again'. Yes, I think Sally Frame on AW was involved in some sort of hippie cult and then Nikki and Paul got involved with New World Commune. Can anyone think of other examples around that time?
  16. Who knows? Texas ran as part of AW beginning in June so viewers must have been wondering why AW, which had constantly been dropping and adding characters suddenly had a whole new bunch to deal with. Ratings were already low and once Texas was being promoted they had an idea already of what to expect. That may have hurt Texas' chances if AW weren't impressed with the Texas characters. Maybe it would have been better to have Dennis move to Houston and Iris decide to join him and on the Monday Texas began Iris makes her last appearance on AW at 2pm as she moves to Texas in its first episode at 3pm. That might have created more interest and anticipation.
  17. Russ and Pat could have eased into patriach/matriach roles but in the 80's and 90's soaps were running away from those type of characters. Remember when JFP pretty much dropped everyone over 50?
  18. Love that BTS stuff...but what a dreary work environment they have - those dressing rooms with chipped paint, no light. Everything looked quite depressing.
  19. Meta was the first Bauer introduced as she was the natural mother of a child adopted by the Brandons. She went by the name Jan Carter. She was re-united with her family and that's how the Bauers were introduced to the show.
  20. My point was that in the Genoa City of 1973 there were no international conglomerates. The wealthiest people depicted were the Brooks and then the Chancellors. Later on Lance Prentiss took it up a notch with a private jet etc ... Agree that the soaps should have taken the time to explain why these big outfits were based in these towns and used that as a plot point.
  21. Lemay may have written the Matthews family differently in his tenure but they were not decimated by any means. Yes Mary was killed off, Alice recast and Russ written out but there was nothing that couldn't have been corrected. Russ was brought back later as was Susan but post Lemay Mike, Marianne, Russ. Pat, Alice were all dropped. Subsequent regimes made half hearted attempts to revive the family. The late 70's/early 80's was the time the show needed to keep the Matthews in play, nowt write them off. But the same thing was happening to the Hughes, Hortons and Bauers.
  22. Well when Bill Bell for eg created Y&R there were no international conglomerates. The wealthy people (the Brooks) were newspaper editor and Chancellor was just a factory - the sort of business you would find in a town that size. The same with the Tylers, Lords and the other wealthy soap families. It wasn't until the Dallas influence trickled to daytime that businesses became mega industries - another chip in the wall that eventually crumbled and took away the essence of soaps.
  23. At the time the Sara story got praise for the writing/acting although long term killing off another Of Mike's wives wasn't a wise move. And with Mike in a wheelchair it was overkill. Currently the show is without an EP as Doris Quinlan has yet to take over. I wonder what the circumstances were at the time that led to Chuck Weiss leaving and no immediate replacement? I don't believe Weiss ever worked in soaps again. Interestingly when Quinlan arrives, there are cast/story changes yet she retains Elizabeth Levin/David Cherrill as writers. Usually a new EP changes writers quickly. Perhaps that points to Quinlan's experience in the genre and not going for the easy solution in blaming writers for poor ratings but instead working with them to make changes.
  24. A natural story would have had Win return and Nola get involved with him to spite Mona. Kind of a Katherine/Phillip/Jill situation with its own twists and turns. It might have been fun also for Mona and Barney to get involved...
  25. Which begs the question, why did Agnes see the need to move the locale at all?
