CBS didn't want to lose Maura West to ABC or Days, that's why she was brought on to Y&R. Diane was the wrong role though. I thought Maura would've been better suited as a Grace recast.

Lane Davies is only two years older than Ronn Moss, so not that big an age gap.

I can't believe that by next spring B&B will have had a longer run than Another World on US network television and by next summer B&B will have had a longer run than Search for Tomorrow on US network television. Funny thing is, both B&B and Another World have a similar trajectory. Good for most of their first 15 years, not so good for the remaining 20 years.

From what I remember the recast happened because Bradley was going to pair Thorne/Taylor but didn't think Jeff Trachta was handsome enough to be a romantic leading man opposite Hunter Tylo.

During the first half of the 1980s, Y&R cast several former Days actors that worked with either Bill Bell or H. Wesley Kenney on Days: Margaret Mason, Peter Brown, Suzanne Zenor, Mark Tapscott, Patty Weaver, Tracey Bregman, Susan Seaforth Hayes. Bill Bell would later cast Peter Brown on B&B. Also K.T. Stevens was cast on Y&R in 1976 after previously being on Days during the Bill Bell years. B&B's original cast had actors Bill Bell worked with on Y&R (John McCook, James Storm, Lauren Koslow) and Days (Susan Flannery). Tom Langan cast several 1980s Y&R actors on Reilly's Days: Deborah Adair, Eileen Davidson, Nick Benedict, Jaime Lyn Bauer, Lauren Koslow.

Y&R feels so hollow and empty right now. The last episode I remember really enjoying was the 12000th episode and that was almost a year ago.

Watched the first three episodes and somehow I don't feel drawn to any of the characters/storylines.

40 years ago this month, Victor saw Nikki climbing that pole and Genoa City would never be same. Bill Bell may not have intended for Victor and Nikki to be Y&R's supercouple but that's what they became.

I think 1993 was the big turning point. Five major events took place that year which impacted daytime drama for the remainder of the 1990s and even today the effects are still felt. - James Reilly becomes head writer of Days. - Guiding Light kills off Maureen Bauer. - As the World Turns head writer Douglas Marland passes away. - Bradley Bell takes over as B&B head writer from his father Bill Bell. - General Hospital sees the returns of Luke and Laura.

Bradley Bell needs to be put on blast for this disgusting storyline. Bill Bell would be so ashamed.

Is this show worth watching? With Empire ending last year and CW Dynasty season finale coming up I'm in need of a good primetime soap.

Y&R was never really known for discovering breakout talent and launching careers, but in recent years we've seen Max Ehrich, Loren Lott, Sasha Calle, Alyvia Alyn Lind all move on to bigger and better things.

@YRfan23 I thought it was odd that Victor didn't make the connection that Nikki Reed of The Bayou was Dr. Casey Reed's younger sister. I think Casey was already gone by the time Victor saw Nikki at The Bayou, and maybe Bill Bell thought the audience forgot that Victor knew that Casey had a sister Nikki. Side note, why was Nikki using her real name at The Bayou, you'd think she'd have a stage name.

Taylor the Desert Princess was not one of B&B's best stories. It was cheesy and offensive. Y&R cashed in on the Charles/Diana wedding hype with the London concert and ball in July 1981.

Would we rather witness budget cuts, shrinking sets, hack writers, or have a show that we all love to end properly with some semblance of dignity?

Bill Bell is spinning in his grave right now. It bears repeating: Bradley did not inherit his father's talent.

At this point, I say Y&R should plan the end to coincide with the 50th anniversary. As March 26, 2023 is a Sunday, the 50th anniversary week episodes will be March 27-31, 2023.

The current writers wouldn't be able to pull it off. Also the elements of Jack's character that we knew in the 1980s (playboy on the surface but was really a lost little boy with abandonment issues from his mother leaving the family that was always looking for his father's love and approval but messing up while doing so) were pretty much lost from the 1990s to now.
