  1. If Carlton is the Impaler he could be playing subordinate to keep his cover in the event that he is secretly giving orders and is remaining faceless, nameless as the Impaler. That might be a little much to expect from the writing team, though.
  2. It's probably not high on anybody's list, but I saw the tornado on AMC when it first aired. That was a time when soaps had a budget to make scenes like that effective.
  3. Naomi can be sanctimonious (Like DOOL Horton level) sometimes so I was glad that Grayson shut her down with that comment about Jacob. Carlton knows a little bit too much about Nicole. It's almost like he's been stalking her for years, but if plain sight. Vanessa is too clingy and nosy. Asking Joey what the letter from his sister said was asking for too much.
  4. Knots Landing is probably the one you could say was good from beginning to end. Of course there were some storylines that were duds along the way but that is true of most shows. Dynasty was very much a different show in it's first season than it ended up being the rest of the seasons. Around season six is when it starts to go over the top, but the final season sort of brings it back to earth somewhat. Dallas probably had the most consistency when it came to tone as the first season isn't drastically different than most of the others. It created the standard for wealth on soaps, but was less glitzy than Dynasty. Falcon Crest felt very much like Earl Hamner's messy answer to his other show "The Waltons". It grabs you from the first season because it lays out the tension very well from the get go.
  5. I really want Deanna to off him and Vanessa to take the fall to protect her.
  6. "What are you gonna do?" Steffy was giving bully energy there.
  7. It would be so much better if Vernon was firmer and more threatening toward Joey. There is room for them to all go down if Martin's secret comes out and that is the chess piece that Vernon should be playing. I like that Naomi is the one that notices Bill's obvious pining over Dani and calls him out for it. The way he was staring at Dani's table while Tomas was trying to talk business was pathetic.
  8. Smitty was shirtless in front of Ted longer than he's ever been shirtless in front of Martin. Ted is clueless to that fact that he cannot grant Leslie grace without her making it into something it's not. Martin's opponent or opponents need to be seen at this point. Nameless, faceless opposition just doesn't work for this sort of storyline. With as many recurring players as the show likes to use it wouldn't be hard to bring someone on to stir the pot.
  9. I certainly didn't mean to suggest you don't know the reputation of the magazines, I was just indicating that I think professionals still do values those publications.
  10. When WGPR now WWJ-TV Detroit started up as the first Black-owned television station there were plans for a Black soap opera called "A Time To Live". This was in an old Department of Education report. WWJ-TV struggled to keep even news on the air during it's time so this idea was too ambitious to get off the ground. The only soap it ever aired was "Santa Barbara" amongst an assorted lineup of network shows. Ironically it is now a CBS affiliate.
  11. Those publications are well respected by a lot professionals so it's likely that a few on the team have read them. It would be surprising if an Essence photoshoot isn't written into the show for one or more of the Dupree women at some point.
  12. Hayley casually eating while Bill was choking was sublimely evil. Bill being so shaken over Hayley going into a bad neighborhood is hilarious. He has no clue that she is not afraid in that sort of place. It was a little funny to see Naomi fussing over Bill like he's frail and elderly, but Naomi is a the right adversary for Hayley to come up against when it comes to Bill. Ashley stealing meds for Grayson might come back on her especially considering how much the chief of staff hates her. That said, Ashley is finally in an interesting story.
  13. I feel like Case could snag the Lead Actress Emmy. As absurd as Sharon Newman constantly being a victim is she does play the material well despite it being really ridiculous. Tunie might have a chance based on the scene with the letter from Barbara, but her strongest material has been this year so 2027 is probably her year. It's hard to imagine Trisha Mann-Grant not being nominated for Supporting Actress considering how much strong material she was given last year.
  14. Is the shooter the same vicious person who punched poor Hayley Hamilton in the face and took her wallet?
  15. Hayley's eavesdropping was a highlight of the episode for me. It was a throwback to small, classic soap opera devices. Grayson had a breakthrough on rather or not he is a character to root for. He is redeemable despite getting involved in the plasma scheme.
  16. There was movement today and we can actually look forward to finding out what happens tomorrow.
  17. Hayley knows how to manipulate a situation but there are too many moving parts for her to keeping deflecting from with indignation Grayson sure enough isn't getting any chicken soon unless it's from Garland Memorial nutrition. Nicole could have called or texted Ted about Martin. It was hardly a "fire" that required an in-person visit.
  18. I watched a few episodes of Good Times recently and I realized how melodramatic Thelma Evans (Bern Nadette Stanis) could be, especially when it involved boyfriends. When she left Ebe she walked out the door while her family was still in his apartment, lol. That said, Good Times was full of soapy moments. On Golden Girls there was a scene where Dorothy said she felt she felt like she was on "Ryan's Hope" when she was telling off her married boyfriend.
  19. It was in the previews at the end of Friday's show so we already know it happens. I assumed previews on screen weren't really spoilers.
  20. With Derek being critical of Grayson again I wonder if Grayson will accuse Derek of stabbing him as a scapegoat to cover up the actual reason he gets stabbed.
  21. Grayson was very messy in the way that he told Ashley that Derek said no to him volunteering.
  22. Saw this in my email and had to run over here. He had a really good presence on screen.
  23. Those numbers for BTG are decent and encouraging. Hopefully this is an indicator that the show is increasing it's audience. Could BET airing those blocks of episodes in March have helped? Being aired in Primetime even on cable is good for exposure.
