I'm having more interest in him now for 2 reasons.

Ava is playing him. I can't figure it out because of the risk since he is Avery's papa. But I am loving it.

I think we've been set up for a story I did not think Mo would let them tell & that is Sonny vs. Jason.

    Sounds interesting Contessa.

I know some aren't going to like this but today is the anniversary of the unpopular 1996 intro. I mean I liked it...

At least soaps were still trying to keep up with the times. It is an upgrade from the two previous openings. Of course I would never have changed the late 70s intro and music. So classy and sophisticated. The other day I was watching the 1981 episode that was posted a few days ago and the 1981 intro felt so out of place with the elegant vibe of the show.

I think it is unrealistic to expect an end to the occasional discussion the firings of 1975 (Dwyer, Reinholt, and Courtney).  This is after all, an Another World discussion thread.  Those firings were shocking at the time, and very unique decisions in the entire history of daytime.  Fans, especially long-term fans, have strong opinions about something that was very important to them at the time, and we enjoy speculating and revisiting that part of AW's history.  I understand it can seem repetitive, but nearly every topic on this entire message board has been discussed ad infinitum. Frankly, there isn't much new to discuss in the history of cancelled soap operas.  If we criticize every repetitive topic, there won't be much action here in the future.  Of course not every topic is of interest to everyone, that should be expected.  Just my opinion.

Exactly. Nobody should expect people to stop discussing topics they are bored with. One can always move on, right?

What I meant was, that I tried twice to put my participation in the discussion to rest by posting, "...it's true: you have every right to disagree. There is not, nor should there be, forced conformity of opinion." And then later, "Sometimes the wires of communication get tangled. it happens." Both comments were designed to let the issue drop, since agreeing to disagree and then moving on works best when different people have opposing, firmly-held viewpoints.

Perfectly said, from top to bottom. 👏

I daresay that certain debates will rage on forever among internet commentators:

    https://neal.fun/lets-settle-this/

For soap fans, in particular, viewers have been rehashing and debating Maureen Bauer's death on TGL for decades. Ditto: "Who was the better Rachel on AW: Strasser or Wyndham?" And, "Do sci-fi and camp elements belong on daytime TV?" Not to mention, "Should ailing, long-suffering soaps just be cancelled and put out of their misery?"

The list (and the debates!) go on.

You are 100% right when you point out that not every subject will be of interest to every person. But that's just the way message boards work.🤷‍♂️

    Exactly.

This is not strictly AW, so sorry about that, up front. This is more meta. I have an idea for a new discussion thread. It would be named something like this:

ALL SOAPS ALL Channels Cross Talk & Meta

I think we keep going OT in specific soap threads on discussions that cross over different shows & perhaps we need a thread where this would always be on topic. On my way home yesterday I put this all together in my head & planned to implement it. Well, instead the GH current discussion thread had blown up & I got distracted. So, today, I thought I would toss this idea out & ask, What do any of you think? I could say more in terms of examples of discussing, but I'm not sure that is needed. So, I open the floor for discussion.

I never mind when people start talking about another show. Most of the times it comes in an organic way and I am sure that everyone here is smart enough to follow the conversation or... ignore a few messages they don't care for, Contessa Donatella.

I don't begrudge Musk a renaming but the logo used to be this cute blue bird & now it is an X & in fact I think the X is ugly. It's a stupid name but if he had to have it couldn't he have picked a good typeface?!!

Got it. And I agree with you 🙂 I still call it Twitter.

Thanks for your help. I would like to see them too.

I didn't remember Keith had been let go twice. That must sting. I suppose she was on the show long enough that I assume she might have been a more popular character with viewers than she was. I get the choice in 1994 but I think there was still more to do with her in 1989, with so many moving pieces around (why not revisit her old ties to Alex/Clay? Why not just kill off Jim around that time and play out the estrangement with the Aldens we got when she came back?).

Thank you for the 1987 episode!

Shana could have been the show's Iris Carrington or Tracy Q. They turned her into a very boring character once she was domesticated with Father Jim. And Gwyneth became the Alden b*tch.

  6. Friday's episode was good.
(Even KM wasn't sleepwalking during her scenes.)

It's good to have new people. You, here, others on UglyX.

Why do you keep calling the platform UglyX Contessa Donatella?
PS: I am also one of FV's supporters. He is doing A LOT of things right and GH is the only soap that doesn't feel like a zombie.

  7. Another amazing MIAMI season. This show is on FIRE. Best looking RH show and the only one where everybody looks great. Everyone has something to offer, the stories are real-life-soap and the dynamics are fascinating.

I want more of Kiki, less of the vulgar sex jokes. I am not sure she wants to share much of her real life though.

    Bring everybody back!

I feel like the Vanessa pre-Billy couldn't have been viable as a long-term character, although I don't really care for some of what they did with her in that timeframe (like the pill addiction and running over Reva).

I think that Vanessa would be fine in stories with Alan and Ross among others. Perhaps I am biased because I hated the Lewis invasion.

And since when has Jill used the Abbott name? Last time I noticed it was Jill Fenmore Atkinson. She hasn't been an Abbott for years.

Jill should have been John's widow. I will never understand why they replaced Jill with Gloria in the Abbott story.
I am willing to believe that Jill Fenmore Atkinson was Esther's dream.

Not sure which Loving characters should not have been there at the start but a few might have been held back with the focus on fewer characters and stories at the start to help viewers get into the show.

Cabot and Isabelle were not really needed and we could have parts of them brought to Roger and Ann. Even Shanna could have been brought as Johnny's daughter, or Ann's estranged sister from the start.

Mike and Noreen could have merged with Billy and Rita Mae.  I would keep Pamela Blair as Rita Mae Donovan.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks TPTB directed Brenda Dickson to be that OTT in her '80's performances in order to sabotage her and force her off the show for good (which they eventually succeeded in doing).

Would make perfect sense to me. Dickson's exit helped Melody Thomas Scott cement her position as Y&R's first lady btw.

I do hope Mulcahey will introduce new characters carefully and judiciously (or even better yet, reintroduce beloved, legacy characters from the past). God knows, I'd loathe seeing a Buzz Cooper 2.0 coming aboard and eating the show. Some folks may have loved Justin Deas' loud-mouthed and belligerent hamminess in the role, but many did not. UGH.

Now, people do have the right to champion hammy theatrics if it's their preference, and yes, Howarth's nostril flaring was appealing to both of his fans (LOL! I jest, I jest! Sort of. 🫢). I know people who reveled in glee watching Divine with doggy doo in Pink Flamingos (seriously; they were wildly entertained at the outrageousness and wanted to see more pushing of the envelope like it.) I would counter that such material can be sought out in John Waters-type films. Soaps, a medium that has gifted us with performances by the likes of Beverlee McKinsey, Susan Flannery, Maureen Garrett, Charita Bauer, Judith Light, Jane Elliot, Frances Reid, Judith Light, Kate Mulgrew, etc, have long proven that stellar performers are celebrated within the genre.

Not everyone is happy to settle for the work of Ronn Moss and his ilk. There are those of us who clamor to see superb thespian work on display, and we have been fortunate in that regard on many daytime dramas over the decades.

Long live the Meryl Streeps of daytime! I'll take Beverlee McKinsey, Susan Flannery and actresses of their caliber over Brenda Dickson (God love her) or Charity Rahmer any day.😁

Yes, yes, yes. (Though Brenda Dickson was my Jill. I want to believe that this Norma Desmond thing was just an 80s phase in her acting)
