  1. The Brad/Leslie story sounds really contrived and overly soapy. Did Brad have any story after he and Leslie divorced? How did he leave town? How did viewers respond to the death of Jennifer Brooks? I've always been fascinated by her quite a difference for a family matriarch. I'd love to see more of Peggy--I've often referred to her as the lost Brooks sister.
  2. I was wondering how you guys thought about the relationship between Victor and John Abbott? Aside from the infamous punch their relationship strikes me as fascinating as they seem to have the utmost respect for each other, and even from watching yr9190's 1993 playlist of episodes it struck me as interesting that John happily planned a special anniversary celebration for the day Victor founded NE while Jack was still seething over the loss of his son.
  3. Thanks for yr9190 for those synopses and review of B&B. I agree with you its a shame we don't have many early Macy clips. Macy was one of my favorite characters throughout the 90s, although I wouldn't have necessarily called her a sad sack like Hinsey did. Here's a review from 2000 by soap columnist Tom Smith :
  4. So who was Dana McFarland and what was her story with Bob? Did they really get engaged?
  5. Pretty much. Actually Victor and Jack became civil and Victor sorta became more trusting of Jack to handle matters, leaving his original heir apparent Brad seething by 1995(throw in the affair with Nikki in the mix and we get the start of Brad vs. Victor) The feud got restarted in '97, when Jack made a big fumble by nearly convincing Nick to leave town for work for what turned out to be a bad acquisition(Jack didn't do proper research) for Newman and when Diane left Jack to marry Victor.
  6. That's interesting I don't remember there being a temp Brad recast. Then again honestly it has 18 years since I saw the funeral Actually I think CBS re-ran it in the late 90s or I saw it online again at some point but even so way too long. Victor winning in the end? Not at all. When he came back he did fire Jack, but then everyone else threatened to quit so Victor was forced to hire him back. After that the two had a somewhat civil working relationship for a couple of years. Besides I didn't find Jack rootable at that time ie leaving people for dead and stirring up unwanted trouble for his own family. If anything the whole story humbled both characters. \ Y&R always had those amazing summer stories that I always looked forward each year(I mean I was off from school lol) In '93 it was Victor pretending to be dead, in '94 it was Jill vs. John in '95 it was Matt's shooting in '96 it was Nathan kidnapping little Nate, in '97 it was Phyllis' life imploding while in '98 we got that epic battle between Jill and Katherine.
  7. I don't know if I've heard that particular cue on B&B, I always thought it was a traditional Y&R cue, often usually leading up to even more dramatic music. yr9190 would you also happen to have Victor's funeral as well? I fondly remember Ashley's moving eulogy while Nikki and Victoria both completely broke down as they huddled tight with a devastated Nick in their seats. The whole story was always a personal favorite of mine. The build-up was nice as everyone was finally getting sick of Victor and well then he was presumed dead. We saw a humanized Victor living quietly with Hope while Genoa City moved on without him. As Carl touched upon it, Victor thought it was for the best. Then he finally came roaring back after Jack was trying to one-up Brad and Ashley. Great stuff really.
  8. Y&R was really in a class of its own there in the 90s becoming very close to the mainstream, I mean heck Eric Braeden has a cameo in Titanic. I don't remember it all but I found it very interesting they had a score at the time that sounds straight out of Melrose: Starting @ 1:08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBspv1ogo_4 And again at the very beginning of this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m292ATKV70Y
  9. A couple years ago there was a ton of Y&R 1995 up but unfortunately was taken down; thankfully a handful of those videos have slowly resurfaced. They should have kept April and Heather for sure. Conci Nelson I believe is Kay Alden's daughter and I remember liking her a lot. They could have developed Heather a lot in the 90s before learning that Paul is her father. I pretty much loved everything about Y&R 1993-1995. Aside from the April story I mentioned, if I had to pick my favorite story for 1994 it would have to be Jill vs. John. They were so NASTY to each other and the stakes were super high. Jill was the loose cannon, having openly steamy affairs with two different men being unsatisfied with old man John who was prone to strokes and in love with his long time maid: Victoria vs. Nikki was pretty good too. Nina losing the baby made me cry as a kid. Then we also had those lovely Winters, with crazy old Lilibelle moving in making everyone's lives miserable while Dru dug her Neil's past. 1995 was really good too even if some of the stories confused and frustrated me by being so slow moving (hello Blade/Rick and Matt's shooting!)
  10. Ahh the memories. I've mentioned it countless times now but the first one features one my favorite stories I saw while growing up, certainly up there with Victor being in Kansas, Jill vs. John and Sheila's reign of terror. How it got forgotten is beyond me, but I'm always looking for the scene of Heather's nightmare of April being put to death. It horrified me as a kid! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UGh71XybFk
  11. The copyright date for the game is 1987, and interestingly enough one question I found going through the cards I found at least question pertained to a story that happened in '87 regarding Phillip and Nina. Indeed that answer about "unnatural attachment" was Joann, while the answer to who was spiking Kay's meds is Jill although not sure what story that occurred in. There's a lot of obscure Y&R trivia and references in it; I don't know if even folks in '87 could answer questions about Pam Warren's murder or what color was Gwen Sherman's hair.
  12. GL was one of the five soaps mentioned in rather thick 1998 book TV Mania by Edith Pavese and Judith Henry:
  13. Not really old articles but a few years ago I picked up these little trivia card games at a flea market and here's the Y&R one. Anyone want to try to answer these?
  14. Trivia time! Oh and it's Stenbeck not Stenbech(what an obvious error!!)
  15. ATWT got two separate mentions in the 1998 book TV Mania by Edith Pavese and Judith Henry whoos thick book sadly overlooked most daytime soaps except for ATWT, Dark Shadows, GL, GH and Y&R. Here's ATWT's two mentions:
  16. I guess I never realized Lisa Loring played Cricket, another former child star in Christopher Knight was on AW at the same time. Thanks for the history clarifications Carl I get confused there 1988-1989. Marland had such a large vibrant canvas at the time its easy to get lost in.
  17. Thanks for sharing! 80s commercials are so cheesy. How long did it take exactly for Adam's paternity to be revealed? I thought it happened in late '87. Those scenes with Jessica and Shannon make me sad considering their later awful storyline. I never knew James and Lilith were lovers, that must have been one hell of a couple. Pam Dixon didn't work as a long-term character did she? Whatever happened to the Franklins? Who was Mark?
  18. What did people think of crazy wicked old Joyce pretending that she was dead? I believe that story was right before these synopses, and I understand it was ATWT's first back from the dead story I think. How did you guys like Peter Reckell as Brad Hollister? I remember being totally shocked at seeing him in a 1981 episode because I had no idea had done anything before joining Days in '83.
  19. It didn't help that as the anecdote goes that Ariane Munker/Ariana Chase ran off the show after being caught up in the feuding between CZP and Jacqueline Schultz. How did people like Veleka Gray in the role of Lyra? Gray is a fascinating actress to me for all of her roles (especially her later Y&R work).
  20. Eh, well it was a rather low-rated episode I understand to open the season premiere with. I though the show had given up on these needless two hour episodes after not having any last season. Cristina's abortion story was pretty weak same goes with the Derek/Meredith stuff. Bailey seems so pointless of a character now. How soon before the Seattle Grace staff darts off in search of Carter in Africa?
  21. I never cared for Michael at all, always thought he was a real sanctimonious jerk and hated him and Stacey. I always though Donna could do better (see Jake and Matt). I hated Michael in the 90s when he came back, breaking up Matt and Donna for no good reason and then getting involved in the Felicia/John/Sharlene fiasco. Actually to honest in spite of his veteran status when they killed off Michael in the car crash that killed Bobby too I felt a bit smug the show had managed to kill off two birds with one stone. Unfortunately by that point the show had quit using Donna entirely except to run people over.
  22. Yeah I think Selena basically fulfilled the role of town cop throughout the the late 80s and just about all of the 90s. After Selena left she her role was essentially replace by that bumbling Detective Webber who was on the show for at least a decade until 2008 when we had that Gil Wallace character who had potential but got discarded in favor of first Chance then Ronan.
  23. That's interesting, I know Fay Hauser played Selena Wylie off and on over the course of what 15 years at least but never became part of the regular cast which is kind of a shame. Selena usually shared a lot of her scenes with Paul.
  24. It was really dumb but it was sort of a "so bad its good" tale especially since Jade finally transformed into an evil bitch until Cleo turned the tables. Plus I don't think it was suppose to be taken seriously like a lot of the total crap that aired in 2008, especially the Z twins in 2009. Two casting questions I have I hope some one could answer: During the K.C. Collier tenure as HW(in between the Dobsons) did Maeve McGuire and Greg Pentecost(best known as Tony the Tuna) play a married couple on the show for a brief time before both were dropped? Or maybe it was the Tom King tenure, I don't know ATWT obviously had big problems in between the Dobsons' first and second stints. Second question I have was Damian ever temporarily recasted? I read somewhere that a person had a ATWT episode where a guy playing Damian had dark and curly hair. Then again this describes Paolo Seganti's hair in the summer of 1995 so I don't know for sure.
