  1. Lily spoke about implementing diverse hiring practices for ChanceCom, which was just an empty nod to our political climate. I think soaps have a challenging situation. Aging, conservative daytime audience + the limitations of network TV. Primetime dramas on broadcast can be formulaic, but they have a broader, often younger audience who can tolerate more. Streaming can be more niche-oriented, which often results in more interesting work. But even with AMC’s move to streaming, you had longtime fans who resisted a lot of the innovations (cursing, more explicit sex, etc.) I would love a fresh, dynamic daily soap without a lot of the baggage old soaps have, but that’s a tall order.
  2. There was a story on Insecure the first season very similar to that (at Molly’s law firm), and it was very well-done.

  4. From Tokyo 🇯🇵
  5. Huge contrast to Tammin Sursok as Colleen on Y&R, who sounded like she was doing an Outback commercial. She’s so good with accents. English again in The End of the Affair. Southern in Cookie’s Fortune. Sarah Palin’s accent. I suppose Michael Swan did a decent Scottish as Duncan.
  6. Yes, I was stunned to hear Joseph Mascolo’s normal accent when I was a kid. I guess it’s easier when your parents are immigrants, and you’ve heard the accent a lot or are even fluent in the language. Same with Melina Kanakaredes as Eleni on GL. I was surprised to hear Fiona Hutchison’s flat American accent as well, but her parents are British.
  7. Yeah, I wish he’d just abandon it. He looks better than he has in 25 years. A shame that he sounds so ridiculous.
  8. She’s so shrill! It’s like whistle tones. And Laura Wright needs to give the scriptwriter who penned that “cup of coffee” monologue for Carly a good ass-whoopin.
  9. Carly’s fücking annoying today too.
  10. Watching Quebec-born Kathleen Gati play German doctor Obrecht on today’s GH got me thinking: what are some of the best and worst accents you’ve seen actors do on soaps over the years? I’ve always marveled that both actresses who played Southern-fried Opal on AMC, Dorothy Lyman and Jill Larson, hailed from Minneapolis of all places.
  11. I may have missed episodes, but it feels like ages since we saw Cyrus.
  12. That would be amazing, but they would never go there. A show like This Is Us is far more daring about addressing racial issues like that. I actually think a lot of primetime series would tackle that nowadays, with the racial reckoning going on. Even The Good Doctor had a black doctor who had to wrestle with her own internalized racial bias against black patients.
  13. I’m gonna need Lily to pop Victoria. I hate that it’s over that loser Billy, though. AH and CK have good adversarial chemistry. Glad that they’re finally leveraging that. Long overdue for them to trade barbs. Still they could have taken it further IMO. I don’t know why they want to be so “restrained” in terms of conflict.
  14. Richard Burgi looks so much better without that foppish turtleneck.
  15. The folks over at Goldderby think RSW is the next Ryan Gosling, but he almost looked like he was laughing during that scene where Ciara kicked Ben out of her hospital room. So bad.
  16. I think WL is smart and talented enough to adjust (like the currently thriving Tom Pelphrey, who did The Most on GL and even recently on his well-regarded turn on Ozark).
  17. From Brazil 🇧🇷
  18. Great interview.
  19. Oy, Musetti. OK, he pulled it off. Big win to beat Schwartzman, but he almost choked it from 5-1, 40-0 up.
  20. From Mexico 🇲🇽
  21. The HFPA has always been a garbage organization.
  22. OK, that’s the end of Sharon Osbourne then... On to the next...
