  2. I do think, in its weird way, that arrested development is one of the few ways these soaps reflect social trends. Aside from Maura West (whose acting style is sort of a throwback anyway), there aren’t really any performers on soaps in that 40s/50s age range with the kind of gravitas that Beverlee McKinsey and Liz Hubbard and the Y&R actresses you mentioned had when they were the same age. However, Y&R has essentially snuffed out any opportunities for a new generation, but I guess that’s a feature, not a bug. They’ve clearly given up on any succession plan and are content to be comfort food for their core demographic, riding out to the sunset with the few familiar faces they have and keeping their characters stagnant. At least we’re not seeing any new love interests for Victor anymore.

  5. Well, I’m happy for Sabalenka. Always great to see a player who struggled to close big matches finally come through at the highest level.
  6. I agree with a lot of this.
  7. Holmes and Robach OUT from ABC News.
  8. Josh Duhamel (ex-Leo, AMC) looking DILFy af:
  9. I thought most of Film Twitter already knew that, but everyone is acting brand new right now. Also, there are a lot of bad actors (not meaning performers) and people with agendas who are trying to stir sh!t up.
  10. People back then looked and seemed so much older for a lot of different reasons. It’s like the Cheers meme:
  11. So short-sighted. You have these kids are basically memory-holed, existing almost completely off screen. You never really see anyone parenting anymore, as soaps don’t do domesticity anymore. Meanwhile, IRL, fewer and fewer people are marrying or having kids under the age of 35-40 (hell, younger folks aren’t even having much sex these days compared to older Millennials/Gen Xers). So much pandering to a Silent Gen/older Baby Boomer audience.
  12. Totally. Imagine the sacrifice, as that’s really hard to maintain at any age, much less on the other side of 45-50.
  13. People have been asking for more aggressive tennis on the WTA side, and you’ll certainly get that from Rybakina and Sabalenka.

  15. Edgar would be great, of course. He’s best at nerdy stuff like Scott Pilgrim and the Cornetto trilogy anyway.
  16. Oy. Just kill these corrupt, outdated, and irrelevant awards at this point. Who knows if Riseborough knocked out Viola or Danielle? If Riseborough gets disqualified, next in line just *might* be another white actress. A lot of assumptions are being made since there’s no transparency.

  19. Not feeling Gizelle’s look, Robyn looks cheap, and Ashley’s basically naked. Candiace by far is best dressed IMO.
  20. He’s gorge. Another one selling bawdy:
  21. Aside from Linette randomly peaking (has she ever made the second week of a major prior to this?), I thought the final four was pretty good on paper. Two Slam winners on one side. Vika playing well. Rybakina actually backing her Wimbledon title a bit. Sabalenka finally breaking through. Are they huge stars, aside from Vika? No, but they mostly are people who *should* be in the conversation to win majors based on past performance.
  22. And so it begins…

  24. Yes indeed.
