Ironically, Armie Hammer is probably more noteworthy as a fucked-up mess than he is as an actor.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I'm literally heartsick over this news. I hate the term "credit to our race" for obvious reasons, but she truly was. She effortlessly embodied the best parts of Black Americans.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread
Oh, Lord. What can I say about Cicely Tyson that hasn't been said already? Wypipo had Meryl; we (POC) had Cicely. She brought dignity and class to every production she appeared in. Rare is the moment when I, as a Black man, have not felt transformed by one of her many, artful performances. African-Americans, and African-American actresses in particular, owe Miss Tyson a tremendous debt for the doors she broke down through her body of work -- and no, there will never, ever be another one like her. Rest in peace and in power, my Queen. Thank you again for your work and your convictions. We will miss you always. The young guy on Gayle's left (sorry, don't know his name) was right: she often spoke so eloquently that you HAD to sit up and pay attention. Right now, I'm recalling her speech in front of the former slave quarters in "Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion," reminding everyone there what the TRUE purpose of a family reunion is and urging Black men and women to "take their place." Overall, that movie, like most of Tyler Perry's stuff, was colorist, misogynistic crap; but oh, how she (and Maya Angelou) managed to elevate even THAT piece of dung is something that will never stop amazing me.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

Yep. And maybe a deal to appear on "Celebrity Big Brother," too. And then we'll have to hear this-or-that Z-level "celebrity" go on and on about how they got to know the former veep and that he isn't at all the bland, stuck-in-the-mud evangelical Christian that the rest of us made him out to be.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

Thanks, @JaneAusten. Nothing about the people who run my state surprises me anymore. And we're just as idiotic as they are, if not more, because we keep electing them.- The Politics Thread

Even if the Senate doesn't convict him at the impeachment trial -- and IMO, there's a good chance they won't -- I STILL support splintering the GOP into two parties. Trump and the Patriot Party could fill the news cycles for the next four years and beyond. However, as I've said upthread, breaking up the GOP like this would only help the Democrats, as I doubt either party (the "Establishment" GOP or the new "Patriot Party") would grow much beyond their established bases. If anything, I think the Patriot Party would flounder quickly, due to a combination of lack of fundraising support and overall incompetence in running a political campaign. Many Trump supporters were elected to positions of leadership in local, state and federal government, but only because they had the GOP's considerable financial and other resources. Once they're on their own, all that goes away.- The Politics Thread

Yeah, but you know this is gonna come back to bite him (sorry, Alvin) come re-election time. "How can you trust a Senator," they'll say, "who would even lie about having a dog?".- The Politics Thread
First weekend of the new Biden administration, and of course, some funky [!@#$%^&*] had to go down (in Tacoma, WA). Apparently, a Tacoma police officer, who was in pursuit of someone doing burnouts (?), ran down a bunch of pedestrians with their car, then sped on, basically committing a hit-and-run. Here's a link to an article w/ video. Warning: it's graphic. https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article248726860.html Get ready, folks, 'cuz you KNOW the cries to defund/abolish the police are a-comin'.- The Politics Thread
