It seems like when MW/Tangie didn't spark right away with RN/Josh, the show abandoned whatever big plans they had for both actor and character. Personally, though, I feel like GL should have cut their losses much sooner than they did and released MW from her contract rather than waste her.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
You know, it struck me the other day how Viki had most of her children - Megan, Kevin, Jessica, Natalie - taken from her at or shortly after their birth. Joey was the only child of hers who didn't suffer that fate (so, of course, he'd be the one that was always hardest to recast, lol).

If you're going to hire a "name" actor for your show, don't just throw them on the air and cross your fingers. GIVE THEM A [!@#$%^&*] CHARACTER. Who are they? What is their background? What do they want (not just in a particular situation, but in general)? What always stops them from getting it? If GL had bothered to answer these questions for Tangie - along with why anyone would be named "Tangie" - then maybe - just maybe - she would've had an actual drive and not just flittered from character to character. Yep, and like you said, @chrisml, MW appeared not to have forgotten or forgiven JFP for it either. And you're not alone in not blaming MW for feeling that way! I think if JFP had been upfront with MW, told her WHY she needed her to join GL, MW might have gone along with it, if only as a favor to JFP for all their years together at SaBa. I know I would've if I had been in her shoes. But I suspect JFP didn't tell her, because she knew there was a very good chance that MW would've passed.

Someday, perhaps, when all that's left of us are the cockroaches and, of course, Cher, maybe the so-called Fourth Estate will remember what they're actually there for, and it ain't just to make money or earn clicks.

It's like what @carolineg said before: it seems like no one in charge is passionate about the show anymore. Which is a shame, of course, because I don't believe GH is past the point of no return, like "Peapack LIVE!" was. It just needs someone to make the right decisions while still keeping the trains running on time.

GH: Classic Thread
Judging from the smattering of pre-Monty material that's currently available on YT, I kind of see ABCD's point. The sets and wardrobe seem terribly cheap compared to, say, DAYS or Y&R from that same period. IIRC, GH's opening sequence before the familiar one (of the ambulance driving past the hospital) was just the words "GENERAL HOSPITAL" against a blue or black screen. In that respect, they might have been ahead of their time, lol.

This is GH fans' "punishment" for lavishing so much praise on Frank Valentini (and Ron Carlivati) at the start and not really looking past all the hype and busy work that was going on. Back then, hardly anyone took the time to see that the emperor truly had no clothes; and now, here we are.

I agree - and by all means, please feel free to share any more memories from that period that you feel comfortable sharing with us. So much of GH pre-Marland is not otherwise known to those who weren't alive to see it (myself included). Any info. on that time would be greatly appreciated! I'm not surprised. I've yet to find anything positive about the Pollocks' work on any show, including THE DOCTORS and DYNASTY.
