  1. "I don't want her relish." You and me both, Donna.
  2. Thanks! This newest post answered what i was curious about, whether or not LOVING debuted better or worse than EDGE.
  3. Oh, that's right. I wasn't sure if 10/83 meant the October issue or that it corresponded to ratings in October 1983.
  4. Interesting that LOVING's not included. Did it not count because of the 11:30 a.m. timeslot? I'm so fascinated by how many of these shows were able to shed, then regain, viewers. I wonder if audience members did a lot more sampling or casual viewing in those days.
  5. Even though I can't tell what Julie's screaming (something about "REAL MEN!," I think?), the part where she and Renee go at it has always been my favorite part of that clip.
  6. You have to wonder, though -- why not just use Tanquir (from Another World)? I mean, it was already established, they had the option of carrying on Grant and Cindy's storyline, etc.
  7. I wonder if they tried dangling any roles on GH for Eileen. Jenny? Dominique? Julia?
  8. Rewinding back to a few days ago, I'm still cracking up at the sudden introduction of the Williams family. You might as well have had a scene where they're pulling into Genoa City with the U-Haul.
  9. Maybe she was happy to be out of the limelight, but it's a shame a beautiful, charming personality like Jacqueline Courtney didn't segue into a later in life career as a character actress.
  10. I'm now wondering what would have happened if NBC kept SFT at the 2:30 slot (where it was doing better than legend has it) rather than airing it at 12:30. Imagine, if you will: 12:00 -- DOCTORS (Since NBC seemed determined to kill it off, anyway) 12:30 -- TEXAS (Still likely to die opposite Y&R and AMC; a more noble fate than falling to TPIR?) 1:30 -- DOOL (OTOH, it doesn't seem like the best lead-in for SFT) 2:30 -- SFT (I'm liking the idea of OLTL leading, while the stable veteran dukes it out with the cocky upstart) 3:00 -- AW (Who knows if it could have gained some of the success GL supposedly did during GH's mid-80s hiccup?)
  11. I know Search for Tomorrow had a target on its back, but does anyone else think it could have gone the distance between ATWT and GL?
  12. It's fascinating -- and often heartbreaking or disgusting -- what the powers that be will put up with as long as the bottom line's not being affected. Pop culture fans often like to say things like, "I never want to hear [Tom Hanks, for example] connected with a scandal." There are certain soap actors that I don't even want to think of in the same vicinity of a scandal.
  13. There's also a having the cake and eating it, too, aspect I'm not comfortable with. This was increased when I found the article that ran in SOD after the episode aired. https://classicsodnews.tumblr.com/post/171693446514/santa-barbara-attacks-general-hospital-soap-opera I found Marcy's comments to be the most insightful. Interesting that she didn't mention having played a victim before on AMC.
  14. Finally found the scenes I was looking for, Eden being treated so crassly by "Linc and Laurie" before letting them have it. If that wasn't enough of a thin veil, consider the mention of producer "Betty Bounty." The juxtaposition between Eden's comments and another rape occurring is incredibly chilling.
  15. I was watching clips from November-December 1983 and one thing jumped out at me: the oddity of not keeping Opal around for a couple weeks longer so she could be at Jenny and Tony's non-wedding. Does anyone know the exact date of Dorothy Lyman's last episode? The last upload she appears in is from Wednesday, Nov. 30 (the day Liza found out about Tad and Marian). By Monday, Dec. 19, it's mentioned that Opal left for Switzerland to get married to Ralph Purdy. With that in mind, I'm going to guess Greg crashing the wedding happened on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26.
  16. And so smug, too! I recall the time he referred to Jessica Savitch as a "train wreck" with Bryant Gumbel. I'm not saying she didn't have problems, but, geesh, she was Bryant's colleague and easily had more talent and presence than Andy ever will.
  17. If I recall correctly, the two plotlines that NBC wouldn't eventually approve were (a) having a character actually receive an abortion and (b) gay bashing. Stevie, and then Lettie, were inessential holders of an essential role -- the older and wiser female. Once the students got older, it made more sense to have the role be filled by Jaleesa, Whitley, Kim and Freddie (more or less in that order). In hindsight, I wish Jaleesa would have left with Walter. Having Jaleesa be reduced to one scene per episode was pretty said. I don't know if Lewis and Sinbad quit or if they were fired.
  18. Christine also just happened to be in that production of Camelot.
  19. Amazing stuff! I can't read to read the commentary in full. Maybe my eyes directly go to the sharp stuff, since I was landing on comments like "Georganne LaPierre (Heather) has to be one of the most untrained actresses to appear this year." And hel-lo there, Beau Kayser!
  20. One thing worth mentioning is that Passions isn't exactly alone in obscurity. It's not like Port Charles, Sunset Beach, The City and Generations get a whole lot of love from soap fans. It's great that the show has a loyal fan base, but I'll be honest, I understand the detractors' POV more and more.
  21. Even the successful (or at least long-lasting) recasts are kind of a results may vary situation, like with Jill Larson as Opal, Robin Mattson as Janet, etc. If there's one "rule" with AMC, it seems to be that if you're a young woman in the '80s, don't get recast. And even that's not 100 percent correct: Nina, Liza, Angie ... but then Skye and Dixie.
  22. You're welcome! That was AMC's studio where they filmed the exteriors, right? Marcy's actually in the next episode. In approximately two weeks, the recast occurs. A pity, really. I wonder what would have happened if Lau and/or Greg hung around a little longer.
  23. An episode I'd never seen until last night ... Tony Barclay's fatal fall and the introduction of Not Jenny. Is it wrong to say the intense staring between Greg and Tony is kinda hot?
  24. It's so sad, so unfortunate.
  25. After all his turmoil, it might have been nice to Tony to slip into the role of beloved elder, a la Steve Hardy.
