No, Amy (and Brick) really didn't have much to do in the spring/summer of 1986. At that time, the major stories were Mason/Mary/Mark, Kelly's pushing Dylan out the window, escaping the mental ward and going on the run (thus giving Robin Wright the time off to make The Princess Bride), Cruz and Santana marrying, and Eden's near-death experiences at Aqualand (by Kirk) and getting hit by a car (with Santana behind the wheel and Keith as the passenger). According to this site, David Haskell's debut as Nick Hartley was April 30, 1985. Page Moseley as Dylan premiered later that year, in October. http://santabarbara-online.com/Calendar1985.htm

Yeah, they paired up Brick and Jane, who ended up leaving town (and the show) together in 1987. Amy had been on the show from October 1984 (about 2 1/2 months after the show began) to September 1986 (when she was killed in the explosion at Buzz's Place).

Kerry Sherman left SB in 1986 because she was pregnant with her second child, and wanted to be a full-time mother. I don't know if they had ever reconsidering recasting the role, but I'm glad they didn't. She was such a quirky and down-to-earth heroine, and I'm not sure if anyone else could have captured that as well as KS did. Here's the article where she stated her reason for leaving the show: http://santabarbara-online.com/articleKSherman2.htm Now that her kids are grown, Kerry Sherman, using her married name of Kerry English, is now a licensed family therapist in Burbank, just a hop, skip and a jump from the NBC Studios where SB taped (and where her on-screen sister, Melissa Reeves, still works on DAYS). Here's her profile: http://www.kerryenglish.com/about I have no idea why Brick was wasted as a character, because with his family history, he was a character the show could have gotten years of mileage out of. But that's another rant for another day!!

Y&R: Old Articles
When I was a baby, my mom would watch Y&R (just as it was transitioning to an hour, I believe) while feeding me, rocking me to sleep, etc. She had to keep the volume down low so she said she learned to read lips pretty good (these being the pre-closed caption days!), and at that point, MTS and EB were just starting on the show. My mom also remembers "the four sisters".

What a great interview, thanks for sharing. She seems like such a sweetheart.

Yup, and she was also in the earliest episodes of The Facts of Life and later went on to play Kevin James' mother on The King of Queens.

"Julie the prettiest step-grandmother in town"?? Shouldn't that be SUSAN the prettiest STEPMOTHER in town? Oy. Bill and Susan Hayes were married the exact same day as my parents. Happily, like Bill and Susan, they are still married and will be celebrating their 40th anniversary later this year. Neat, huh? Henrietta!! I still remember her and Bern Nadette Stanis (Thelma) dancing to "Pick Up the Pieces" by Average White Band.

Plus, he still had a bit of that baby face as an original cast member of RH.

You're right - I looked it up and her first Emmy nomination was in 1983 for Heather on GH. Her other three nods were all for SB (1987, 1988 and 1989), and all four of them were in the Supporting Actress category. In 1983, she lost the award to Louise Shaffer (RH). Also competing in that same category was Marcy Walker, who was still on her first go-round on AMC. In 1987, the award went to Kathleen Noone from AMC. In 1988, the Emmy went home with another AMC star, Ellen Wheeler. In 1989, two actresses tied for the honor - yet another AMC actress (Debbi Morgan) and RM's own co-star, Nancy Lee Grahn. Ironically, when RM finally joined AMC, she never got an Emmy nomination. 1989 was her final nomination to date.

She's done so many soaps, but I have to say I think her best work was as Gina. She got to do it all. Weren't her only Emmy nominations for SB?

How awful. Yes, I've heard that, too. The two men were golf buddies, as I understand it. How cowardly of the Dobsons or MEB not to even tell him. Then, of course, Jed felt terrible (who wouldn't?). While recasting the role with Jed turned out to be one of the best moves the show ever made, what a low blow for Charles Bateman. Does anyone know whatever happened to him post-SB? Maybe because that was her first producing job, as she was moving herself up from the music department (where she had worked at GH in the late 70s/early 80s). Because I like to give credit where credit is due, she did some excellent work on SB.

With the Dobsons, JFP and MEB - I'm surprised the actors weren't shaking in fear behind the closed doors of their dressing rooms!!!

Oh, yeah. Sirens, Suits, Southland, I could go down the whole list. I think he'd be a fine addition to any of those shows.

ALL: They Almost Became
Hmmmm. I guess the Bells didn't come a-knockin' again after she got canned from GL. Thankfully for her, she landed AMC again and reprised Liza Colby for almost a decade before she left show business in the mid-2000s. Hopefully, the GL experience taught her some humility, as that was the first soap gig where she had been fired, and that even an Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy doesn't always spell job security. Thanks for the response.

I see your point, and sadly, I have to agree. He wasn't a cookie-cutter type "hunk", and his unconventional look made him stand out and seem more, I don't know, normal to the audience. Of course, the networks, sponsors and the like all want the cookie-cutter type "hunks".

LG's Gina was like a china doll, fragile and looking for love in all the wrong places. Her gradual change into a villainess was very believable, and LG played the raw hurt perfectly. Her SOD win for Best Villainess was very well deserved. I'm not exactly sure what the reasons were for her being let go and replaced by RM, and I'm not sure how she would have worked with Justin Deas and all the wacky storylines that were going on then. RM was very good at playing the comedic stories, and she had the chemistry in spades with Justin Deas. She played the dramatic plots very well, too, like when she learned the truth of her connection to Lily Light, and the rape of her niece, Hayley. The dynamics between Gina and Santana seemed to change with the change in actresses. When it was LG playing Gina, she was the weak, clingy one while it was Ava Lazar's Santana who was the cunning spitfire with a backbone. RM's Gina then became the strong, calculating one while Santana (then played by Gina Gallego) became a sniveling mess. One thing never changed with either Gina - both were driven to do what they did, however shady, for Brandon. Both actresses played Gina's love for her adopted son beautifully.

Does anyone know if he was ever asked to come back to ATWT? It would have been interesting to see him in the last years of the show's run instead of Roger Howarth's histrionics.

I never saw any of that on GL, so I can't comment. LOL According to a recent interview, Richard Eden (Brick) and Jane Sibbett (Jane) did not get along off-screen at all: http://pierin26santabarbara.blogspot.com/2012/05/exclusive-and-unusual-interview-with.html

I found a 1996 clip of Robin Wright (then Robin Wright-Penn) from June 1996 on Jay Leno, complete with a clip from SB: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xw2l0b_exclusive-video-interview-with-robin-wright-about-kelly-capwell_fun
