  1. I thought Mama's Family ran until 1990, but you're right - it could have very well come down to an issue of whether or not Dorothy Lyman was available. If she had been and returned to AMC, I wonder how she would have worked with Palmer.
  2. Today the Anderson saga continued to dominate both episodes, but at least we had some levity in the form of a phone call from Carolee's mother (episode 1) and the meeting of Ed Stark and Martha Allen (episode 2). Also, we got an explanation of how Ed came by his accent (by living in London for a time). Of course, Dr. Sour Kraut just can't resist needling the good Dr. Mrs. Powers, can she? Seriously, who else is rooting for Maggie to literally scratch Karen's eyes out? I have a feeling that the majority of the staff wouldn't be on Karen's side. LOL I wonder if the Maggie/Karen feud will continue after Bethel leaves and Lydia Bruce takes over. Lawyer Frank Burns has much more sense than his client Ralph Anderson does, doesn't he? Larry Linville had another soap connection - his second wife was Vana Tribbey, one of the many Alices on Another World. I still want Nick to literally knock sense into Ralph Anderson. I also have a feeling that whatever happens to Lila, it will be the catalyst of drawing Nick and Althea even closer together.
  3. SoapDope, that was the story I had always heard about Tom Selleck and Y&R. I just hadn't heard that Bill Bell had later come to regret not signing him.
  4. I wonder if the demands Dorothy Lyman allegedly made explains why she wasn't even asked to reprise Opal when the character was brought back in 1989 - despite winning two Emmys (the first in the supporting category, the second in the lead category).
  5. So will I. Good writing can cover a multitude of miscues elsewhere.
  6. To me, it shows that Susan Lucci is much like the rest of us in personality traits. Would YOU want the press/fans constantly reminding you of the fact that you haven't won that elusive statue? I think her famous losing streak was already garnering attention by 1983 and had to be an absolute nightmare by the time it finally ended in 1999.
  7. So do I, and I think something like that is also a trait that matched Mac's personality. Even when the two were at their absolute low points together, there was never any doubt that Mac and Rachel were each other's true loves. Thus, it makes sense that he never would have loved Janice.
  8. Does anyone know what Linda Fairgate's maiden name was? I can't find it.
  9. I didn't even know Susan Brown was on Y&R. She must have gotten GH just after this.
  10. I read about the Lucci/Lyman "feud" in the 1987 book Soap Opera Babylon. I don't know how much of it is true, but it did say that Susan burst into tears when Dorothy was announced as Best Actress.
  11. Yup - and he's had the best of both worlds by having most of his Firefly co-stars guest on Castle.
  12. Terry Kiser and his co-star remind me of Sigfried and Roy in those clips. I'm sure Jane Seymour has long since forgotten about this one.
  13. I know. Even by 80s standards, the hair was hideous!!!
  14. Too bad Susan never appeared on Mama's Family. Then again, if those rumors of problems between her and Dorothy Lyman were true, then I guess it's not hard to see why she wouldn't have.
  15. I know that her one-time husband, Ross Kettle (who played Jeffrey Conrad on SB), was nominated for the Younger Actor Emmy one year. Wasn't she (Michelle) nominated for an Emmy the same year?
  16. I don't know, but I think it does say something that neither Bev or Vicky ever won and the third in their "triangle", Doug Watson, walked away with two consecutive trophies. But then, I have never, EVER heard anyone in the acting arena or the soap press say a bad word about Mr. Watson.
  17. Both episodes today feature the "core" - Matt, Althea and Nick - with Carolee in the first episode and Maggie in the second. Ed Stark is in both. One thing that really surprised me (well, another thing surprised me - but that's what Nick DIDN'T do, LOL) - was Nick's take on faith. I was totally expecting him to mock faith, prayer, religion, etc. but he shocked me by saying that faith is "fine", as long as people take advantage of the medical treatment available to them. I wonder how Matt and the hospital board are going to handle the issue - especially if Mr. Anderson gets his lawyers involved.
  18. Avatar610 - I bet your prediction will be right on the money. Then it will be up to Matt to break things up. Oh, so looking forward to it already!!
  19. God bless Nolan Miller. He was just as every bit as important as the cast members of the shows he designed clothes for.
  20. Well, I had always enjoyed Firefly, so I considered that making it. LOL But you're right that Nathan Fillion didn't find his greatest success until Castle.
  21. Mr. Anderson, anyway. I get the feeling Mrs. Anderson doesn't fully believe everything that her husband does. They're probably Jehovah's Witnesses, though of course they'd never mention the religion on TV. Or is it the Christian Scientists who are fully against medical treatment? I know Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in blood transfusions, but about other medical care, I have no idea. As for Ed Stark, Matt is probably giving him chance after chance as a favor to Ed's father and hospital board member, Paul. That's my theory on that issue, anyway.
  22. It's a shame that Michelle Forbes didn't become a bigger star. She really was one of the biggest unsung talents to hit daytime in the mid/late 80s.
  23. I never knew that Darnell gave Debbi away at her wedding. How sweet!!
  24. What treasures!! Thank you for sharing them.
  25. Good for Kim - I've always liked her. I just wonder why she hasn't been given her own show by now.
