  1. Questionable taste, but I'll let it slide.
  2. Janet weathered the storm of her family for many years and distanced herself from them for the most part during her most successful period. By the time of her career decline, it was only really Michael that was a continued sore spot for the family in the press - particularly during the second child molestation trial (where both Janet and LaToya stood ferociously by his side). It was a series of really poor albums and the Super Bowl incident that doomed her career. In particular, she should have never given Jermaine Dupri so much creative control during their relationship. I think she could have recovered from the Super Bowl fallout a few years later if the material was there, but it largely wasn’t.
  3. Janet's treatment post-Super Bowl was definitely equal parts racism and sexism coming together in one big toxic mix.
  4. Love Janet, but don't think her vocal range lends itself to musicals or musical theater, lol.
  5. Janet's actually said she prefers acting to music in several interviews, and her entertainment ambitions were always be an actress first. It was Joe Jackson who forced her to focus more on music (hence those two awful albums she released before 'Control'). Whatever it is though, please Janet, no more Tyler Perry nonsense!
  6. Janet's over 50 now, the days of being a hitmaker are over. Trying to compete with younger artists in the early 00's didn't work out well for her then and it won't now. She needs to focus on preserving her legacy, and releasing music that will compliment her existing catalog. Beyond the dance charts (let's not forget, the gay community has remained very loyal to her and the other aging divas as well), she's unlikely to ever score another top 40 hit. She's also never enjoyed the same level of international success her brother and Madonna have, so I don't think she can be an "overseas hitmaker" at this point, and she doesn't tour often either.
  7. He performed a Country routine on Star Search as well….
  8. Janet, for years, mistakenly thought people loved what she called her “baby-making songs” when that was not the type of music that drew people to her in the first place. It was cute with ‘Anytime, Anyplace’ but there can only be so many songs singing about your p.ussy on various albums… Janet also went on a mini apology tour after the Super Bowl incident, which I think only ended up hurting her even more in the long-run. It purposely gave everyone else ownership of her personal narrative. When Madonna had her Sex book backlash, and even as she moved on from it, the one thing she refused to do was apologize for it (which she directly references on ‘Human Nature’). People who “punished” her for it had to deal with it and couldn’t really use it against her as she wasn’t going to say “sorry” for it.
  9. I think the collaboration with Jimmy Jam and Terry Jewis had just gotten stale by the time the ‘All For You’ album rolled around - but then she had a series of albums after that that were very half baked. Her nadir creatively was just probably during her relationship with Jermiane Dupri, she gave him way too much control over her material during that time and none of it was any good, IMO. That seems to be a trend with Janet - her musical output if often heavily influenced by whatever relationship she’s in at some point in her life. Again, whether Janet wants to admit it or not, Rene Elizondo was very much creatively involved during her most successful period. Once that relationship faltered, it seemed her output went along with it.
  10. I’ve always believed that Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction was staged by both Janet and Justin. However, neither anticipated the crushing fallout from it, and it was easier for Justin distance himself from it while Janet was left holding the bag.
  11. And honestly, the general interest in soaps is so low these days, these people have no reason to prolong a scoop or act like this is somehow going to drum up that much interest in their intellectual property.
  12. I don't think The Supremes get enough credit for their impact on pop music. Yes, Berry Gordy's marketing orchestration and Ms. Ross's ambition meant that Diana would always be the STAR and FOCUS of that classic lineup, but what they accomplished in a few short years cannot be ignored. For better or worse, they're still the most influential girl-group of all-time and the most successful girl-group on the Hot 100 STILL. Some records they still hold: First act in history to score 5 consecutive #1 hits First girl ground to have a #1 album with The Supremes A' Go Go in 1966 Girl ground with the most #1 hits on the Hot 100 with 12 - which they accomplished during a ~5 year period mind you More than that, they were cultural. Perhaps the first black act that were legitimate crossover pop stars, and they were global, with success that extended far beyond US shores. In an era where racial tensions were the norm, their crossover appeal into mainstream America cannot be overestimated. It's tragic what became of founding member Florence Ballard's life, but that's another topic. And yes, it was the late Mary Wilson that largely kept their legacy alive before her passing while Ms. Ross often couldn't be bothered. The material, especially the Holland-Dozier-Holland stuff is TIMELESS, holds up, and is the blueprint for so many pop songs to come.
  13. It’s hard to take a documentary that’s been tightly controlled by Janet herself as pure or balanced. The relationship with Rene Elizondo was very crucial to Janet’s career and the most successful part of it. He was there from her breakthrough with Control through The Velvet Rope. He was very much part of the direction of her music, the creative development of her videos, and promotion of her music during this time. Many fans have noted it for years, but the quality of her music waned significant after her relationship/marriage to Elizondo fell apart, Super Bowl incident or not. It’s always been alleged that the marriage to Wissam was some type of business arrangement, the more she skirts around it, the more I believe it.
  14. Yes, they co-created it together and wrote its initial few months/year, but struggled with it. AW famously only took off because of Agnes Nixon coming onboard. Bill and Irna's collaboration was most felt on ATWT, and DAYS by extension (since Ted Corday produced ATWT before creating DAYS).
  15. Hope seems to fit the description as she's a legacy character born on the show.
  16. He's a DC (Detective Comic, not Daytime Confidential) apologist too, so automatically on my shitlist.
  17. How reliable is this Alan character? Seems like another know-it-all soap fan on Twitter that pretends to have scoops, but it’s all based on educated guesses.
  18. Who needs Ambien when you have this show?
  19. All the Carly's (can't speak for Jennifer Bransford though) have aged pretty well and seemingly (mostly) naturally.
  20. RC is not the type of writer to flesh out any character or give them a remotely interesting backstory.
  21. Frankly, I don't think soaps need to wrap everything up in a neat bow - I understand fans wanting closure for their favorite characters, but I l don't mind the idea of a serialized drama "living on" even if we won't get to see what happens next. So, if that means Sonny and Brenda's car exploring as they leave for their honeymoon, so be it. At least the fans have the satisfaction of knowing they were married again at the time. 😛
  22. Let's be honest, Josh Griffith would have trouble making a f.ucking suicide note coherent and clear.
