These character descriptions' seem very well thought out and specific, which is very good and gives me a lot of hope. This part of Cheryl's description almost made me spit out my water when I read it, lol:

None at this point. Both of those pairings have too much baggage to ever really be viable to me again. I think would be interesting to give Liz an older love interest with a troubled daughter around her age that hates her and hates that her father is now in love with someone her age. Think a modern twist on Rachel/Mac/Iris. However, these writers won't invest in writing anything like that.

Wow, this is horrible and the person doing this needs to get a life and spend their time doing more productive sh!t.

And my favorite Blake, Sherry Stringfield, was on both! I never got over her leaving GL, but as a young kid, I was so happy when she landed on ER (I never really watched NYPD Blue). It doesn’t take a whole lot to make us soap fans proud and happy sometimes, lol.

Whether you were a fan or not, I do think Seinfeld and ER earned their right as definitive 90's shows in their respective categories. Not only were they commercially successful pop cultural juggernauts that people/families build their Thursday's around, they were also critically successful and are still held in great regard even today. Speaking of ER, even with the grit and relative medical realness, it could also be a very character-driven/focused and touching show. Mark Greene had one of the best character arcs on all of television, IMO. I can almost tear up right now just thinking about his ultimate death in season 8, and that amazing sequence at the end with his daughter, Rachel, letting go of the balloon (as Mark said she always did when she was younger before he died) as a tribute to her late father and to let him know that she was going to be OK. When it was great, ER had some amazing writing, acting, and directing.

Fraiser is a unique blend of both a family and workplace sitcom to me.

The Q's are also back to treating Tracy like a joke/nuisance, which had shifted slightly when PM was writing.

I'm not going to watch anything when its well document Michael Landon left his children a respectable trust fund. She's not struggling like the average joe trying to make it in Hollywood.

Also, Jennifer Landon is Michael Landon's daughter and he left all his kids a significant trust fund when he died, she's not desperate for job security to survive like most struggling actors between jobs. Let's stop that narrative, lol.

Unfortunately, it seems like hour-long dramas just don't have as much of an afterlife compared to sitcoms with a few exceptions. Probably because of their length.

I think it had broad appeal too, it became my family's go to at 10pm on Thursday's after my mother couldn't find a substitute for no longer having Knots Landing on Thursday's in the same timeslot, lol. But definitely a phenomenon and I don't think its gotten much recognition for that as the years have by as Friends seems to get (but probably because ER went on for 15 seasons, actors came and went, and its pop cultural reverence wore off after a while). I think its a major discredit to the show when the press hypes it up as George's Clooney's training ground only...

With Landon though, she did Y&R back in 2012 (over a decade ago), and DAYS was a short-term stint. This was all prior to Yellowstone and getting upped to contract status there. What's in it for her to go back to daytime, especially with the possibility that Yellowstone might get a 6th season of some sort? It's one of those things I'll really have to see to believe.

Agreed, I may have tuned out after a while and not enjoy some of the later seasons as much. But ER always felt like ER. No matter what the rotation of characters were, the show never felt like it strayed very far from its identity and it's still the best medical-related drama that was ever produced, IMO.

I do think ER’s success was astounding for the time. It was a 10pm drama that wasn’t necessarily a family show, and a very different medical drama than what came before. The fact it outrated the rest of the Must See TV lineup for pretty much the rest of the 90’s wasn’t necessarily predictable either. It somehow managed to have mass appeal despite its content and timeslot.

It’s now been 30 years since the start of the 1994-1995 season - arguably the definitive season of the 90’s with Seinfeld rising to #1 in the seasonal ratings, and of course, the premiere of both ER and Friends. Seinfeld would go on to be the definitive 90’s pop cultural sitcom and show in general. ER became the definitive hour-long drama of the 90’s and would go on top the seasonal ratings itself for the rest of the 90’s (save for the 1997-1998 season where Seinfeld came out on top again for its final season). Friends would go on to be its own pop cultural phenomenon and spawn a slew of imitators.

It would be hilarious if none of these actresses get the role, despite Soap Twitter’s best efforts.

It’s a shame and I do honestly think ER is ripe for a reboot/follow-up series. Maybe an even grittier take if it’s a streaming series on MAX. The ER finale even set things up perfectly with Rachel Greeen following in Mark’s footsteps. A premise like this never goes old and characters can weave in and out easily.

There is still the possibility of a season 6. Nothing announced yet about an official end.

I think she was promoted to series regular for the 5th season, so I doubt she'd take this or even be allowed to by CBS/Paramount.

They could have just hired Lindsay Hartley full time… The show has a hell of a lot more dead weight I’d rather see leave before, even if I do feel Sam is a spent character.

It seemed like a bit of a wink at the audience - Abby’s replacements (Anne and Claudia) were on their way out as Abby made her triumphant return. As I said before, I totally commend Donna Mills for leaving when she did and realizing that the best writing for Abby was likely behind her. Her return for the finale was a nice thank you to the fans.
