  1. Cane sucked the life out of every character he literally interacted with. The fact it took them over a decade to get rid of that cancer character is telling and sad.
  2. Lilly: Goddess of Love is one thing I could never and will never get behind.
  3. She spent this past weekend protesting in one of the 'Black Lives Matter' protests in London, in clutches no less.
  4. Conboy’s tenure in general killed any hope you might have had of GL ever being a somewhat respectable show again. Conboy killing what was left of the show’s budget didn’t help either...
  5. Shaffer did amazing work on Ryan's Hope, often with very messy writing, but she is totally miscast as Stephanie. They also dressed and styled her in the most unflattering of ways.
  6. Ellen clearly hates Erika Slezak, lol - "The third Vicki." LOL, oh the shade of it all!
  7. I always liked Harley and Josh, and I'm glad Beth felt that way as well. But telling she said she always found something about "the person" to fall in love with when talking about love interests... Interesting that Fiona said it was Michael Zaslow who pushed to cast her and have her join as Jenna. I always heard that JFP offered her the role without an audition, but seems like Zaslow was behind it.
  8. Beth looks more and more like Irna Phillips as she ages...
  9. God, for 1993, this is so real and relevant for today. Such eloquent and frank dialogue (from Ross's monologue, to the judge, and then to David himself) would not be allowed on soaps today:
  10. When was the last time racism and systematic prejudice was tackled on soaps? In a thoughtful way? The David Grant/Vinnie Morrison stuff on GL in 1993 from Curlee/Demorest? Even that story would never be done today.
  11. For the life of me, I don't recall Norah celebrating the Jewish holidays on a consistent basis. It must have been down to who was the HW at the time and if they cared.
  12. Through this, we also get to observe The Dobson’s work pre-Allen Potter coming on as EP of GL and Gordon Russel’s work at OLTL pre-Joseph Stuart as EP. It will be interesting to observer the differences in story content once these highly influential EP’s come aboard.
  13. It's interesting that despite coming from a Jewish background, Irna's work often had these Christian themes running through them. I guess it could be down to the networks/sponsors she had to contend with. Did Irna's Jewish cultural roots ever get reflected in any of her works?
  14. Was this the only two-hander in American soaps?
  15. If I ever revived GL, things that spring to mind: - Maybe start off the show with a funeral for Meta that sees various Bauer's and characters return to Springfield. Meta must be over 100 by now, but we can fudge the timelines... - Peter Reardon would have to be a central character - a character connected to the Thorpe's, Reardon's, Bauer's, and Lewis's. This character could have been a goldmine if written properly - I'd use it as an excuse to revive Nola and Quint/the Reardons as have them running Company again or possibly turning it into a boardinghouse again. No need for any Cooper's of any kind. - Reva cannot lead a story ever gain. Sorry, Reva needs to settle into a Bert Bauer-esque matriarchal role. Zimmer may not like it, but that's who Reva should now be - Find a competent actress for Marah Lewis that can actually lead story - Ross isn't dead, or I'd pretend that sh!t never even happened. Ross and Blake's kids would also be younger generation leads - Sherry Stringfield would be playing Blake again, if we can secure her - Hope Bauer can return to be some type of matriarch for the Bauer's. Maybe she's living with Ed and Holly, and Michelle's kids - Maybe they can finally try Alan-Michael and Gilly (who would return to Springfield) again. I'd try to get Rick Hearst to plan Alan-Michael again And sorry, I'm all for taking the show into the new generation, but I don't know that I'd have 'Otalia' in my revived version of Springfield. We can have better written representation with other characters... I'm actually not entirely sure what I would do with Phillip and Beth, or the Spaulding's in general (outside of Alan-Michael, who would feature as much with the Bauer's as with the Spaulding's if Hope returned). I know they need to be represented somehow, but I don't know if I need to see that twit Lizzie again. But Phillip and Beth's other kids could take center-stage. I'd also recast Alexandra with an esteemed older Southern actress that's more similar to Beverlee McKinsey, Alan can remain dead. Oh, and Billy and Vanessa - I'd keep them together, they don't have to be permanent characters, but I'd use them heavily in a recurring capacity.
  16. Ruth Warrick gave some insight about Irna in one of her interviews. Irna had apparently been in love with a taken/married man all her life and he wouldn't leave his wife for her. She tended to identify with characters who reflected a similar scenario. Kim very much fit this mold for a long time. Topic starts about :45s in.
  17. Maybe Ellen resented being stuck on soaps. She tried twice to have a go at it in Hollywood (when she left GL and after her first stint on ATWT) and neither attempt panned out that well for her...
  18. Ha, Julie is such a complicated woman and I always sensed there was a lot more that went into her quitting in 1995. Yet, it’s hard not to say that her exit in 1995 was likely the unofficial end of Classic Corrie for good. Certainly the dynamics of the show changed drastically in the year or two after.
  19. I appreciate the honesty rather than some BS answer like, “I stayed for the fans” or worse, “the material was so amazing!”
  20. We cared about the Cassandra Rawlins story because of Nina Arvesen, not because of you Doug (it could have been any man).
  21. Kimberly Sims, Melissa Hayden, and Jocelyn Seagrave! This is one I care to view. Could do without Mark Derwin, but that's OK.
  22. Interesting that Tracey said she was brought over to B&B because CBS was planning to take the show to an hour, but it never ended up happening. I guess GL would have been canceled a lot sooner if that had happened. I always heard the talk about B&B expanding, but wasn't sure how factual that was.
  23. Ghost John was insufferable, and worse, the Gloria-propping during that era was some of the worst biased writing I've ever seen. That's why I'm glad the character no longer has any significant presence on the show.
