  1. I saw neither one of these finals yet somehow the results were pretty much as I expected them to be.
  2. Interesting.
  3. Apparently, the father abandoned the family when he was a boy so he was raised by his Italian mother. As preposterous as it sounds to us, he may very well believe that he's white.
  4. I know that some people don't like too many Snyders in their ATWT but the use of music in this episode is exquisite. I wish the condition of this video were better (hello, wavy heads!) but at least it's watchable, lol. The fact that there are no commercials in this episode really serves to highlight how seamless the transitions between scenes truly is. The friendship between Margo and Shannon was truly underrated, rarely duplicated in the years that followed and I owe that dynamic to HBS and MR. That scene of Margo in bed plaintive and weeping is one of the best scenes illustrating loneliness that I've seen on a daytime soap. Then the contrast to the next day of Margo trying to minimize the effects, particularly in her scenes with Frannie and Shannon make it all the more effective. Even her scene with her nephew Bryant were pretty poignant (when soaps could afford baby actors and not dolls, lol). I don't know why Roy and Duncan's bickering scene make me laugh ("Oh no, you're right, it was obviously Little Orphan Annie!"). Roy and Duncan were obviously set up to be antagonists to each other early on (later on, they'd be rivals, of course). This Charles, who works for Duncan has a horrible Scott brogue. I wish there were more episodes from May 1987, tensions were building all around. That final scene were exes collide, the exchange of glances was highly intriguing. And again, as in the rest of this episode, the music was such a mood. The previous episode was good too.
  5. Trump is such a compulsive, pathological liar and the standards in the U.S. have been lowered so drastically in a year that he continues to face no repercussions as a result of his dangerous rhetoric and constant lies. How the f*ck was Wall Street/NYSE going to open immediately after September 11th, when two planes hit the Twin Towers that were located in The Financial District!!! When will some Americans start to use their heads?
  6. Horrendous.
  7. Yeah, I read an article that stated that his father is Filipino.
  8. Green is facing allegations of sexual misconduct and racist abuse. Parliament is investigating how his NDAs can be repealed but he has already been publicly named by a politician who invoked his parliamentary privilege. Others are calling for his knighthood to be rescinded.
  9. According to his relatives, he/they have no Native American ancestry. So I guess, the latter? However, someone who has worked with him in the past, has said that Sayoc expressed white supremacist views and was an admirer of Hitler.
  10. That's great. I do wish that the daytime dramatic genre had a well known and well regarded advocate to at least, help preserve what's been done, especially during the Golden Ages.
  11. Hate is a strong word, lol. They can get along off-court and still want to beat the crap out of each other on it.
  12. People might want to pay attention to this because Texas is the second state where I've read of this happening.
  13. It's their job though, even if it feels fruitless at times. Otherwise, it's dereliction of duty.
  14. President Obama looks as tired as I feel. The press rarely seem to fully challenge Trump on his lies and equivocations in these moments. They usually let him slither away.
  15. This woman was harassed by him and ignored after she complained, so I'm glad she's making it public.
  16. The only problem with Kanopy is that it isn't available to every and all public libraries. Hoopla Digital, which is probably available in more public libraries, is very limited in classic titles.
  17. It's about matchups, I think. Thiem's game feeds almost directly to Kei's strengths. So much so that it almost looked like Kei could anticipate where Thiem's shots were headed. Also, Kei looked really confident out there today.
  18. If companies like Warner Brothers and whomever owns United Artists this week can't maintain these classic movies then they should all be on Hoopla and Kanopy and large public libraries like the New York Public Library where streaming platforms are large enough to accommodate a large streaming viewership. If there are recordings from any medium, in this day and age, the technology is out there to preserve them. It's time consuming, sure but it's not prohibitively expensive. Send them to a University library, a large public library, a public streaming service. Also, I'm convinced that a concerted public effort to push these companies to do so, is the only real way I see this happening. If we don't agitate and get petitions and contact people, this likely won't happen and we can see titles fade and degrade, more and more, each year until we are unable to recover them. That's likely happening with many episodes of our beloved soaps, every single year. To go on a bit of a rant, soap fans have been putting their energies in the wrong direction. Trying to get cancelled soaps back on their own networks is the wrong move. And honestly, why would you subject a show's creative staff to that type of pressure, where they're likely to have bean counters breathing down their necks to water down the stories and put in the cheapest looking sets known to broadcast television?? Why not, instead, put your energies to preserving the gems of daytime dramatic television that are currently collecting dust, to prevent degradation and ensure future accessibility? Why are we soap fans not at least trying to agitate for this? As a fan of ATWT, I realize that some of the best episodes are not on YouTube and I may never see these episodes ever again. Even the ones currently on YouTube can get swept away at any time. It bothers me as a soap fan. Doesn't this bother anyone else?? The last I checked, there are even grants out there to help with film preservation for projects with merit. A daytime television staple such as the daytime drama seems to merit such preservation efforts. It's much like that person's tweet about film buffs needing to make the effort to see that the legacy of these films is not disregarded. The same can be said of soap fans. If these soaps were of no value than the likes of Sony/Bell, etc. would not be hoarding and carefully curating their collections. P&G/PGP obviously believed that their shows had value, judging by the SoapClassics effort and I believe this is still the case even if they lack the motivation to make good on it.
  19. ^^ I'm not really sure at the moment. I started to listen to the livestream and then clicked off when they went live to the White House. Even before the arrest, news outlets have been discussing the common features of each envelope as if to suggest the same person but I'm not sure whether this is for all or some of the packages. Lots of spelling errors on how the packages are addressed and the fact that they were sent through the USPS makes me wonder about the intellectual fitness of the suspect.
