  1. I've been thinking exactly the same thing. The story actually was pretty good at first, with the subtle beginning and slowly escalating level of abuse. But it has gone on for too long. I know they said that they wanted it to be realistic but they're going overboard. They're dragging it out too much, and now the whole axe-attack..... Anyone who knows anything about the Dingle family will realize that it is completely out of character for them not to have done something about Tom. I'm not saying that Cain should have beat him up or anything like that. But the tight-knit Dingle clan that I have come to know (and loathe) would have done something. Followed Tom around all the time, terrorized him mentally, stood outside his home watching him, things like that at the very least. Maybe not broken any laws (however unnatural that must feel for them) but let him know that they know what he's done and that he's gonna pay for it. There's no way that people like Cain, Charity, Mandy etc would just stand idly by after they learned the truth. No way.
  2. Happy 100th birthday to ex-president Jimmy Carter. The first president to reach that milestone.
  3. The recently departed Dame Maggie Smith is perhaps best known for playing sharp-tongued, formidable women in "Downton Abbey", "Gosford Park" and the Harry Potter movies. But for those who would like to see a different aspect of her immense talent I can highly recommend "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne". In it Maggie plays a lonely spinster who makes a meagre living giving piano lessons. It's a brilliant performance, worlds away from the Dowager Countess of Grantham. And the fact that she shares scenes with the magnificent Dame Wendy Hiller (in one of her last performances) doesn't exactly hurt either.
  4. Wow, this was a shock. I haven't watched DAYS for many years, but John Black is almost a template for the ultimate soap opera hero, and much of that was down to Drake. He was always committed and gave his all, however ridiculous the story, and that commitment made sure he was always fascinating to watch. R.I.P. Mr. Hogestyn and thank you for all the years of entertainment.
  5. How can someone running for office be this stupid, even if he is a Republican.... Like so many in the comments to the video pointed out women over 50 can have daughters, granddaughters, friends, sisters etc that are under 50. How some women in the audience can laugh at his remarks is mind-blowing, because I don't think they are laughing at his stupidity.
  6. The weather is really doing its best to show that this is where we're heading....
  7. The excellence continues, and Diane Grayson has really come into her own as Janie. I think I must amend my list of the 50 best Emmerdale characters to include her.
