Knots Landing
It isn't done today because the networks and often the producers have contempt for viewers and assume viewers can only take crap. It's also a continuing dumbing down of society and of the media.

Primetime Soaps
I have approximately one recap of Berrengers from a 1985 Digest. is anyone interested in reading it?

Primetime Soaps
TV Land ran the Yellow Rose briefly. I never got around to watching, as it takes a lot to sit through a Cybill Shepard show.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
That's a shame. I have seen little of his work but he must have had some talent to be the lead for so many years and so many changes. One of the old magazines has a photo where around 1979 Burt Reynolds was hosting SNL and asked to meet James. He said James was his mother's favorite actor. James joked that he was growing his mustache out again to look like Burt Reynolds.

I don't read the new soap magazines very much now so had no idea. All this and IMDB didn't even give her a credit. That's neat that she even got to use her own photos - I guess it was a good way for the movie to save money. I haven't seen Black Swan yet but will look out for Tina. So, I was reading an old SOD, and Kathleen Cullen was fired as Amanda? I always assumed she'd left by her own choice. I think that was a stupid decision, as Amanda could have been an interesting contrast to Alex. I guess Long and Kobe just liked the hooting and hollering women or the obvious victim women - Trish was also phased out during their run.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
They killed Becky with all the baby obsession. Some say she ruined Steve but he was already ruined by Michelle. The show has a terrible problem writing for main characters. They are just unsympathetic, loud, and nasty most of the time. I have to laugh when I hear some fans still using the line about Corrie being warm and safe - the show is about as warm as Siberia. Every time I have the stomach to watch again, Sally and Kevin are screaming and sneering and hypocrite Sally is manipulating her children for her own bitter agenda.

Family Affairs
Thanks for posting more. I have definitely seen little of this, which is strange, because so many other soaps from this time have everything available. Even outside of Youtube there is little. I guess the episode I posted must be fairly early on if they are saying "Happy New Year" - unless that meant late 1997? Maybe you should share your thoughts on the show again in the new thread.

Family Affairs
Anyway, the main reason I posted this is because there are now a few more clips available, from 1997. This is the first part - they have about four more, several of which are only a few seconds, some go up to about ten minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZjm6KpJ99I

Family Affairs
This is for the Channel Five UK soap which ran from about 1995 or 1996 to 2005. Little of this is available, aside from Holly Hart's lesbian relationships (available on Girlsngear or something like that) and the infamous scene where the Harts went boom:

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I was just watching some of this sh!tty movie with Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton, about a producer who shakes up a news program. Patti D'Arbanville plays Rachel's mother. In one scene, Rachel is talking to her boss, Jeff Goldblum, and there was a woman standing next to him, his wife or girlfriend, and I could swear it was Liz Keifer. Was that her??? IMDB doesn't credit her for this but it looked like her, it really did.

Probably not, but it's just something I am interested in seeing more of on soaps.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
That's a part of it, yes. I do think we will get some sort of mother/daughter reconciliation, and that's fine, as long as it is reinforced that Tanya is a self-loathing woman who looks down on others because of her background. I can't take her strutting around Walford as the self-crowned queen, although I disagree with those who say this is new or she has been "ruined". She's been like this for years, they are just making it more upfront now. I am glad that they are going to have more focus on mother/daughter relationships, as they did earlier with Carol/Bianca. This is something soaps don't seem to care about anymore.

Tanya's mother and sister are on the way to Walford. The mother does look like Tanya - an older version. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a310006/eastenders-confirms-tanyas-mom-casting.html Tanya has always been from trash, so it will be nice to see some of this brought up again. And I love Rainie!

Thanks. I'd assumed it was Australian since all the shows minus EE seemed to be Australian. I guess I should see if this Echo Point is on Youtube.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Probably, yes. Emmerdale at least had a few promising new characters. Corrie has had none. What baffles me is that when I see some fans at DS talk about new characters they're almost rattled off like a list, oh, just wait until _____ and ______ and ______ comes along. That kind of underscores how thin and ultimately irrelevant most of the new characters are. I'm still surprised sometimes at just how lethargically written most of their stories are and what transparent plot devices they are. The show did not even try to make any effort with the wretched Kylie or Xin, or the sleep-inducing "villains" Owen and Frank.

That channel must have been in Australia. What was Echo Point?

I haven't seen that BBC promo in ages - the last time was before they got rid of Endersfan on Youtube. I love that promo a lot, it's just so much fun and so creative (although it's a little too long). I love that the subtitles are 'Enders dialect. I love the Dallas-style promo for the tenth anniversary. Given how campy Sharon was it's a nice fit.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I think it's bad marketing. He's attractive to a different group now. He's cuddly - there's nothing wrong with that. He's just not this ripped guy they keep selling him as, and he's also not any type of "jack the lad" heartbreaker either. The fact that Corrie is tells me they are going to fail him as they have failed every single new character they have created in the last two years.

Chris Fountain sucks in his stomach for a photoshoot. Meanwhile, Helen Flanagan is taking a break for 3 months but getting her own webseries as Rosie tries to become the new Katie Price (so sick of that story).

Any Capitol Fans Here?
That sounds fascinating. I guess it says something about the show that it inspired such passionate fans. You notice that this seems to be the case mostly for 80s soaps. I guess the glitz and glamour era had international appeal. It's too bad this never helped enough money-wise to keep them on the air. I do keep looking for stuff...either I don't have the issues yet or it didn't get as much coverage as the bigger soaps. I don't know why but I always get a little bit weirded out when I see Deborah Farentino with Nick. I can see why people assumed he was her father.
