Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Exactly! We still live in a world where people debate whether or not two straight people of the opposite sex can be friends without there being a hanging cloud of pressure to couple up. Of course, Graeme wants Tina. He's sex-obsessed. Graeme's done nothing to make Tina want him in return. Much worse, when she was in full anti-Gail mode, Graeme rode the fence better than anyone I know. He hung banners for David, discussed legal strategies with David, fixed breakfast for Nick and David on court days, etc. I don't remember him ever really taking the time to talk to Tina about why she felt so much hostility towards Gail. All of their scenes revolved around him making her eat. Speaking of food, and I am SO GLAD I just remembered this. If I wasn't already hating Nick, I would have started when he said that Betty's hotpot was like "rotting fox." I so wish she could have been there to offer a rebuttal.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I did like the whole EE vibe of the street market, so if they can make that work long term, that'll be cool. He could even meet a girl there or what-not. Lord knows the pickings are slim for poor Ches on the Street. Yes, that's one thing I do not get. On all soaps, no matter what country, the characters always go apeshit when it comes to "protecting" the kids, but they have problem discussing all of their drama around the little ones. It reminds me of how Clare and Max argue in front of Tom on the Hollyoaks episodes I'm currently watching. I'm guessing there was a Wednesday episode this week? I've only seen through Monday. I actually thought they'd go light on the eps this week because of the World Cup stuff. Hopefully I can get to yesterday's show tonight. Though, after reading what's gonna go on with Tina, Jason, and Graeme, I may try to put it off. Dumping Jason for Graeme? He looks and acts like an embarrassing father, which I guess makes sense for Tina. But damn, Gazey's five years older than Michelle. He's even older than Jen McAlpine. And he wears every single year on the front of his shirt.

Total agreement. She had me rolling all through Monday's episode. My favorite part was when she got bitchy with Tina at the Kabin. Too funny. I'd love it if they very, very briefly "went there" with her and Ciaran just for the hell of it. Norris would be so f'n jealous (of Mary). Gail and Tina's reconciliation has been beautifully acted by Helen and Michelle. I just keep waiting for a hug, and I don't think we've gotten it yet. I wish Peter would have just clocked Nick. I do think he's overreacting with the Leanne stuff (probably because TPTB need a reason for him to start drinking again), but come on, it's Nick. Do everyone a favor and knock his block off. I also just have to say that I love the kid who plays Simon. Chesney's secret was such a let-down. It would have been much more interesting if he was selling drugs or himself. Fiz shrieking and screeching about doing the right thing makes me deaf because as long as her and John have this "furniture" thing going on, I think she needs to STFU. I didn't post much about last week, but I did watch it all the way through. Alison King definitely got a fan out of me, that's for sure. Carla was the most interesting thing about the whole storyline, followed closely by Tony and then Maria, who I still think is an utter pimp for just walking out of the factory at gunpoint like it was nothing. The aftermath was kind of a snooze, which made Rita's line on Monday about how she "slept through the whole thing" even more hilarious. A f'n factory exploded in her backyard and she "slept through the whole thing." Sure. She was probably up watching Mavis on "dinnerladies" reruns.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
Spinner, Jay, Manny, and Emma! I'm gonna enjoy that! I need to brush up on my Holly J and Jane because I barely watched any of their episodes this season, and I want to know what's going on with them in the movie.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
Chantay might as well had been a brand new character because anything she's doing now is completely unrelated to the stuff she did in the past.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
So much word. Sean and Ellie were on a level that Sean and Emma never could have been on. Even though Emma was only a year younger than them, they were still heads and shoulders more mature than her. Maybe mature isn't the word, but they were definitely not as naive as cause girl. From about the time he decided not to go to Alberta with Tracker until he moved back to Wasaga, Sean was probably my favorite character on the show (though I was a sucker for dipstick Craig at that time, too). As a matter of fact, and I really haven't thought about it much, but Sean/Ellie just might be my second favorite Degrassi couple after Craig/Manny. They were that good. That episode was so bizarre. It's been so long since I've seen it because the first two seasons never air on The N or in syndication, but all I remember if her poking fun at a Muslim girl, her then being Muslim, talk of her of her heritage, and a jerk chicken recipe. I don't know. Hazel and Toby were the two characters who got the crap end of the stick repeatedly in the peak years, and that's a damn shame, because Ashley? Was not worth it (except to see her get played by Craig). I assumed she's playing a girl that wants to be a boy? I don't know the particulars of the story, but I've always thought that it's gonna be her as a kid who's transitioned all the way, but then again, I don't know much about the transgender stuff, so maybe a person that young can't even go through the operation. I don't know. For real. Once they made a story circle out of Clare, KC, and Jenna this season, I saw the writing on the wall for him anyway. Not that I'll miss him, but this incarnation of the show is getting a little white. There's Sav and Alli, and there are also Chantay and Danny (who barely show up), but would it have hurt them to make Declan and Fiona black or eastern Asian or Native American or something different? And they could have also dropped the "rich" angle with them too. So he graduated, but we just never saw it? That kinda sucks, but then again, it's Peter, so it's no big deal. I'm guessing we'll get a big graduation thing for half the characters at the end of S10. I'm not fan of either one, really, and I kinda like Jenna just because she's Clare's antagonist, but I can't get over KC and his douchey ways (though I loved the episode with the creepy basketball coach...even tho the guy who plays KC, Sam something-or-other, kinda dropped the ball on that one). I'm thinking Lizzie's character is gonna be in their class, so hopefully she/he gives me reason to like the younger set. Oh, it'll be juicy all right. I can't wait to see it either because I love my gay football player drama (Jack McPhee, anyone?). I hope Zane takes a chill pill somewhere between seasons, though, because he had a little bitchy streak in his first appearance. And they either need to diagnose Riley with Tourette's or tell the actor to make his movements more fluid because the twitching and jerking is just cringe-worthy. The promo with them making out on the ground is pretty hot, though.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
Yeah, the stories mostly sucked. It was nice to see them at the next stage, at least. I loved the Paige/Marco/Ellie living arrangement, but by the end of S7, they got very depressing. Truth be told, it was definitely realistic the way the three of them sort of drifted away from each other, and even better was the way Marco felt alone and friendless for a while. That's how high school ends for most people, unfortunately, and I liked that they sort of showed that. Good. I didn't like him at all, especially that VOICE! Ack! I don't hate on my LGBT brothers and sisters one bit for being who they are and doing them, but that dude was rocking some serious gayface and gayvoice. Poor Ellie, never got her "own" guy. She was bf/gf with Marco, and we know how that turned out. She shacked up with Sean, who we're supposed to believe is the love of Emma's life (I always preferred Sean with Ellie anyway). She was with Craig on and off, but he's supposed to be the love of Ashley's life (though I preferred him with Manny), and just to be sure, she had flirtations with Jimmy, who was with Hazel at the time but is also supposed to be the love of Ashley's life. Honestly, Hazel and Ellie both got screwed over in the love department. Hazel really got screwed over in every department, though. LOL I never saw it up there. The N put it on their Degrassi On Demand channel, so I saw it there. It does pique my interest for the next season, so they did their job for sure. I really get a laugh out of it, though, because I'm always complaining about Clare being so old and boring, and there she is in the video, playing the role of the old tarot card reader. ~ Lizzie from LWD's storyline should be interesting, but I wonder if they could have found a transgender teen to play the part, if there are any transgender teen actors in Canada. She really doesn't look that much like a guy, even with the cap and the short hair and clothes. ~ I would do strange, strange, dirty things with the guy who plays Sav if I ever got the chance. Just for the record. ~ Snake's little cousin/nephew/whatever, the guy with Asperger's, sure got hit a growth spurt. I'm surprised they're even bringing him back. Glad to see that it seems like they've ditched some of the pointless characters like Danny, Johnny, Bruce, and Leia (though I've read she'll be back for the first half of the season). ~ ~ WTF is Peter still doing on the show?! Really! Let's take a moment to examine the show's timeline, shall we? The Paige gang graduated in 2006. The Emma gang, plus Jimmy, Spinner, and Ashley, graduated in 2007. None of the characters graduated in 2008 (which is 2010 in real time). So, the next round of graduates will be for 2009, which will be 2011 in real time. So that means in season five, when Peter was videotaping Manny ("And you can SELL that for a million DOLLARS, because I'm going to be FAMOUS!!") he was a freshman!? Or am I missing a part where he had to repeat a grade? ~ Clare's new haircut intrigues me. It makes her look as old as she acts, but idk, maybe there's fierceness in that haircut. ~ I love Riley (though the actor is pretty much on the wrong side of "OK") and I'm looking forward to seeing this thing with him and Zane and the blackmailer, but 'the hell? I love how Riley and Marco just have/had all these options in the gay love department. Marco had Dylan, but there was also that guy Tim. Riley has Zane, but there was also lifeguard dude and his friend from camp. The gay kid rarely gets *one* piece of action in real life, much less two or three!

Degrassi: The Next Generation
I gotta agree. The Paige gang going to college and us following them just felt right, IMO. They still had friends and lovers at Degrassi, so it still felt like one unified show. Following the Emma gang to college just made it feel like you're watching two different shows because, other than Peter, those three really had no connections to Degrassi anymore. So sad, but true. The umbilical cord should have been cut at graduation. I like this idea of yearly movies, though. I think the old cast would be up for it. Each year, focus on what's been going on with a small handful of the old characters until every story has a sense of closure. That's always been my gripe, the utter lack of closure...though that is kinda realistic, but come on, to just leave us hanging like that? Marco's hair...ay yi yi. I loved his hair when he first appeared...I liked his whole style, really, especially that tiny patch of hair under his lower lip http://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/uploads/emoticons/default_laugh.png' alt=''> But geez...the stringy hot mess hair was pretty sleazy-looking, his girly gay hair looked bad, and there were some ugly college 'dos that I don't even want to find pictures for. He looked fine as all get-out on his most recent appearance, though! As for him and Dylan, they've been done since season seven, I believe. He was with another guy for while, but I forgot what happened there. I'm fine with him and Dylan never being together again because that was a pretty horrid relationship for poor 'Co. Danny (Lib's brother) hasn't happened like they wanted him to. They tried making him one of the major characters in S9, but then they realized he can't do drama at all, so now he gets a story rotated in every now and then. His BFF Derek was thankfully written out as if he never existed, and since Danny makes so little apperances himself, there wasn't a mention of Derek all season. Craig appeared in the Hollywood movie last year. He and Ellie had a little rekindling angst, but I never got to see the whole thing, so I don't know if they went their separate ways or stuck together or whatever. Yall seen the new carnival-themed promo for next season? Very well-done.

Flamingo Road
LOL I read a rumor about McCarthy saying that he and Monty Hall were involved in a long-term relationship, but Kevin was never ready to go public with it. Monty was, so apparently, Monty's still heartbroken over the rejection. LMAO. Esther played a high priestess. The simple fact that the show got to the point of having a voodoo priestess in the cast just tells you how WTF they got towards the end. The Weldons only had a butler, Jasper, and he was white. Lute-Mae had some help at her place, mainly the bartender played by Charles Robinson from Night Court and I can't remember if the other guy was a security type or manager or something like that. I remember a story with him trying to swindle her out of some money.

Flamingo Road
. I hope this person adds more. The 1st season was so good and soapy. The first half of S2 was good too, with the political themes, but the second half, with the voodoo...I don't know. I was in the hospital when that was airing on GoodLife, so I never got the full story (or ever saw the last 4 or so episodes). Hopefully I can see it now in due time. Barbara Rush and Kevin McCarthy are so "old money" in the whole series.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
LOL Especially during those bad hair years Spinner had, he looked mighty raunchy. Some people are in to that, but All My Shadows is not. It was all about Sean Cameron, his boxer shorts, and his undershirt for me at that time. But yeah, Spin's the only one left. Emma and Manny were in the opening credits for this season, but Emma only showed up once and Manny never appeared at all. I'm thinking they'll be in the TV movie coming out, but I really don't know. DTNG has handled this transition very, very poorly, I think. They wanted to get into telling stories with the new characters, but they also knew the old ones still had fans, so they tried to hold on to those characters even though they hadn't the foggiest idea what to do with them, hence Miriam McD. and Cassie S. being credited with everyone else. Spin's the only one who still fits as a semi-regular. The others can show up in a guest star capacity, like Marco did. Joey and Caitlin are history. With Craig long gone, I don't see them having any reason to drop by outside of visiting Snake. What they need to do is reintroduce Angela Jeremiah, who should be ripe for the "go there"-ness.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
That was because Jason Priestley was so hot that Shannen couldn't resist putting her hands all up on his chunky behind. They put the eps online. I haven't had The N in months, but I've mostly kept up through watching it on demand and the occasional online ep. about Spinner and Zest. I actually tried Zest this last go-round, but it's not enough to tear me away from Irish Spring. But anyway, Spinner's come a long, long, long, long way in many ways: as a character, he's gone from being the one-note bully to a mature young adult, as an actor, SK has gone from being obnoxious and green to pretty natural, and as a piece of flesh, he's gone from being a dirty, grungy little urchin to a pretty tappable slice.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
LOL people tend to forget that they are twins. I was reading on a board where the posters thought it was very strange how close and touchy feely they were with each other, being brother and sister, but when it was figured out that they are twins, it was totally okay. I don't get it.

THE PILOT!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmjUJnDsK58 I haven't seen this in about seven years, so I am extremely excited to use the available opportunity I have to sit and watch.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
at your response to that post. Looks like Riley's little yoga slice is gonna be sticking around. Interesting. The rest of the season, surprisingly and unsurprisingly, doesn't really pique my interest. Not surprisingly because...well, it's the new kids. I can take or leave 'em. Surprisingly because...I've kinda gotten used to them a little bit through season nine. Eh. We'll see. Hopefully ten is the last one, because I don't see them making this 4823948 episodes a season thing work.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Got around to watching these. Tony's just running things, and it's so fun to watch, if fun is the right word. The Underworld scenes are very tense and claustrophobic. I'm liking the whole thing a lot, especially Carla, who I never cared for before but now enjoy most of the time. I'm also glad to see Maria back. Her utter confusion as to what to do when she walked out of the factory was just riveting! The simple fact that she walked clean on out of there to begin with was bold and definitely something different from most hostage storylines. The Gail drama. The only scenes that really stood out to me as scenes that I liked were Nick and Natasha back at the house and David and Tina talking on the bench. 'Chelle and Jack have this great chemistry, I love them together. Nick grew on me a little in the scene with Natasha, though I did find it just a teensy bit condescending. I even liked David and Graeme, and honestly, Other random bits...the more they show Ashley, the more I hate them for giving him the axe. He's just as viable, if not more than, as Steve and Tyrone, and way more viable than Lloyd, Sean, and others. Ugh. I liked Kirk all throughout the hour, which is strange, and Janice/Julie/Sean/Fiz brought some laughs, especially Janice. Max Headroom, indeed. The Roy scene was kinda pointless, no? I get they wanted to establish his coming home and not finding her, but it was kinda out of place. Whatevs.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Friday's episode was all right. I didn't see it as any different from what's been going on for the last month or so, but maybe that's just me. I was shocked to see so many black people! And not all involved in one story! The Fox party was bizarre with all the drunkenness, but I liked it. Ian and the teens was hilarious. Zsa Zsa and Leon can go, but Fatboy has to stay. Those ridiculous car double entendres were so clunky and cheesy!

Knots Landing
I see a little EiE in Knots, too. They were produced by Lorimar at the same time, so it makes sense that they have a similar style and feel. I popped in a disc this morning and watched Breach of Faith, which was probably my favorite of the second season so far, shocking because Abby wasn't a HUGE presence, but she made a lot of things happen. I finally picked up S1 and will be watching from the beginning when I get a chance. I've seen the pilot dozens of times, but I'll tune in again just because.

"Secret Storm" memories.
All this...is just amazing. I can read it all day. SS seems like my kind of soap, from the moodiness, to the raging emotions, the confrontations, Belle, Valerie, etc. I need to see more. Thanks, sayno, for the episode you posted. It's the best one I've seen of the show yet. The Joan Crawford episode is now #1 on my things to do before I die.

:o Wow. I guess it's honorable of them to dump this huge storyline in the name of not wanting to upset the people affected by this tragedy.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Getting ready to watch yesterday's episodes later on, but I did skim through. Tony and his BFF on the bike looks like it will be unintentionally hilarious, as well as the fact that he's in sweatpants. And they changed the End of Part One music! No! That was the perfect music for that part of each episode!

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I like the Underworld crew for the most part. Carla's grown on me, I don't hate Nick as much as I did about a month ago (he can still go, though, please). I like the machinists for the most part, though I'm not a fan of Izzy's yet, and Sean and Fiz can be harpy, but I can tolerate them most of the time. I flove Janice. So have you all heard about Jack P Shepherd (David) cheating on the mother of his child? This is a pretty crappy article, but it basically lays out the details, though the pregnancy thing is still sketchy. He's publicly apologized for his adultery, though the pregnancy wasn't mentioned. I'm sure Helen Worth's gonna give him a few unkind words. Her husband screwed around on her twice, so she must have a low tolerance for cheaters.

"Secret Storm" memories.
Gah....I look for anything/everything I can find regarding Secret Storm, especially the mid-to-late 60s era of the show. Thank you so much for sharing all your memories! I look forward to more!
