OLTL

No one hardly ever posts on the show any more, ratings are freefalling, is OLTL done for? I hope not, but I do have to say something needs to be done to fix the show now, like right now. Is there any hint that OLTL might be getting a new writing team in, especially a new head writer? I don't think Dena is cutting it at all, the show is more boring than ever, nothing happens, and nothing changes. The same stories from years ago are still on, so, what is going on with my dear OLTL? Bad enough that my fave Viki is hardly on, has no story or love interest, but the show overall just simpley sucks right now with Dena in charge.

All I know it is sad what Dena and FV have done to this once wonderful show. To have such talented performers too, and know that they can do better - just look at May.

I don't watch and sadder still is I don't miss it.

I can't think TPTB aren't trying to do something, but I don't think they have a clue what needs to be done. Dena has been following their policies, and few fans, if any, are happy. Maybe one or two fanbases, like Java or Chrisvan. SHort of changing the ABC mandate, I believe there is little that can be done.

Spenser is not the runaway success they really need to carry all the story they have planned for him -- hardly enough for the rumored redemption attempt -- however, a twelfth hour rewrite by Dena may be even worse than what was planned. They need to examine WHY Michael Easton has been planning on leaving even if he does decide to stay after all (and I don't buy that it is money). They need to please, not anger, the fans who have stuck with the show for years (the Nora fans, the Viki fans, the Todd and Blair fans) without being repetitious -- not by crumbs, but by some serious screentime and commitment to a storyline, but in such a way as to keep the younger fans interested and watching as well.

I'd say it is done. When my overall response is to cringe when my favorite characters are on because of the dialogue that comes out of their mouth there's not a lot left. I don't think they could fix this if they wanted to and I'm not certain they want to. Absent a Bobby Ewing or pulling the present episodes and running classic espisodes for a couple of weeks what can they do? Each day it gets worse.

I must be in the minority. Between GH, Days, and Y and R, I think OLTL is better than all of them.

This show has been on life support for months and sadly, I think it's about to draw it's last breath. I wonder if Higley isn't being micromanaged to death if the show stands a chance, however it still is not enough. Serious changes need to be made. This show lost it's focused and it is severly stripped of it's identity. Problem is TPTB think that they have a paper cut instead of a bleeding wound. I'm willing to concede they do realize they have a problem, but continue to re-apply a plaster hoping the infested, gutted wound would simply go away. It's not just OLTL but the entire ABC Daytime line up. However GH and AMC will always get first preferance while OLTL flounders gasping for air.

OLTL is so underrated. I love watching it every day. I liked today. I care about most of the characters. I don't see whats really wrong.

Same here. The show's not even worth fighting for anymore.

Call me crazy but I have hope they will bounce back. Not too long ago Days was in the same situation where the show pretty much sucked and ratings were freefalling.

I think they can save One Life. I know the show kinda sucks now but the sad think is that, even though it sucks now, it is better then a couple other of soaps. I don't think ABC will just give up on the soap, they just need to write some better stories and we all know they can.

People have been waiting since the summer of 2004 for real changes and it's going in the opposite direction. There is only so long that viewers are going to wait for payoff, there are only so many times that viewers are going to buy into the lies the tease when it never comes to fruition. I absolutely want the show fixed but I ran out of hope and faith long ago. I suspect I'm not the only one.

No it's not done. It can be fixed, IF OLTL decideds to fix it. Days was absolutely a bottom feeder three months ago. Now I think it is one of the -- OK I'll say it -- somedays it is the BEST soap on right now.

Not long ago, I thought OLTL was going gang busters. Now I feel used.

OLTL has the talent. It has the chemistry between characters. If TPTB recongize they are stinking it up, yes it can be good. It can be very good. During gimmick month it's good.

So I don't think it's toast. However, I also don't see any interest in stepping up and making the changes that Days has. JMO. By the way, I anticipate, or I hope anyway, that the show will make some instant fixes that we all will say, well that doesn't make sense, but then we'll think OK, the ends justify the means.

In other words, we get Kevin and Kelly make through some manipulation and we see Kevin more regularly. Java goes bye bye and I get Tess and Nash. We end this daily McBoring hour. Well that's just a start. But I can hope can't I?

I am in the minority because I am for the most part enjoying the show. There are some stories that I am very tiredof, but then there are some that I am very interested in, so it evens out for me. I find myself liking characters that I never thought I would. The summer's always suck for me because I don't get into the youngin's and that is who they showcase during the summer, but I think it will pick back up once the summer is over with, it always seems to anyway.

I agree. OLTL is no way near gone. Some of the ratings this year have been fairly good for OLTL. It's in fact gotten hire ratings a few weeks than GH or AMC and has beaten ATWT quite often in the last year.

A lot of people here on SON think otherwise and they have their right, but I disagree strongly. Do I like the way some of the characters are being written NO. Especially Viki, Kevin & Clint. I also want more vets, less newbys and want Dena Higley fired pronto, along with the actors playing Nash, Spencer, Claudia, & Bruce especially. I hope Spencer gets his comeuppance in November. I have begun to warm to Tobias Truvilion (to my surprise) as Vincent and his pairing to Layla.

I don't think there are any instant fixes at this point. At this point Tash is Java to me. I honestly don't see the difference. Unless and untill Kelly has a date with karma, I don't want her near Kevin. I want him with a new love interest all his own and away from all things Cramer. I want Viki with some new love interest of her own they've pretty much destroyed Clint and Viki for me at this point.

I don't see Spencer or McPain going away any time soon.

I guess that is why I say I have no hope.

As to the ratings, sorry but they are bad. One or two weeks at 2.7 or 2.8 in an entire year isn't good. It's especially not good when you factor in that Malone was fired for the summer of 2004 where the new record series lows were 2.6, 2.5, 2.4. Hackley's given us a year of ratings in that range and she is still here.

I love Tess and Nash and really want them back. The reason I stopped watching is because they were treated so poorly. I also thought Kevin and Kelly had great chemistry and want them back together. I think as a couple they could be the future of the show.

The Dorian/Clint pairing where Clint totally sleeps with his family's enemy has done a great deal of damage to the character for me. I don't want him with Viki. In fact, I don't like the character anymore.

Today, I heard Michael Easton has re-signed his contract. With Antonio returning to the police department, we all know what this means. We are returning to the crime-fighting duo of McBoring and Huffy.

So I change my opinion. This show is a goner. The McBoring hour has been a flat out bust, and Valentini and Co. are either too stupid or too arrogant to make a change. It would merely involve a greater mix of characters and less emphasis on two -- one who has a small but vocal fan base and the second who is just reviled. It's also obvious they totally caved to demands by Michael Easton, the most overrated person on the show.

OLTL is doomed and I'm sticking with DOOL.

By the way, there is no question that the ratings stink. They stink as compared to other years, and they stink as compared to other soaps. OLTL is dropping like a bomb. At this rate, GL should tie or pass it before the end of the summer. This show has lost its base of support, and it has lied and abused its fanbase for such a long time that it is going to be very difficult to get us back.

Yep, I'm now pissed.
