August 8, 200619 yr Member Yes, that is the SAME Karen Harris, and MEOW! LMAO. Good thing Karen is long gone from AMC. "Karen Harris - I have successfully blanked her from my memory." He sounds very Hogan-ish, as in certainly NO wallflower and very candid. I think he is going to rock the boat, but in a good way.
August 8, 200619 yr Member Well just because Armus has blanked Karen Harris from his memory doesn't mean I have. I admit I have a hardon when it comes to her. But, without her contribution to PC, I probably would have crossed over to the ABC Lineup much later in my teenaged years.
August 9, 200619 yr Member I like Karen too - but it sounds like the two didn't along for whatever reason. Whatever, she should be the head writer of GH.
August 9, 200619 yr Member Thanks for confirming it's the same person Jackie. I was not a fan of Harris' AMC dialogue. It wasn't bad but it was not up to par with Lewis and Beall and (ducks) Bradbury. However her headwriting at PC and co-headwriting at GH were stellar. Just goes to show it takes a different set of skills, which is why I've never felt Patrick Mulcahey, the best scriptwriter in daytime, would be a great headwriter for GH.

I think Beall is probably the best scriptwriter on AMC at this point. I have to say I've enjoyed a lot of her work. There was a moment where she got a little obnoxious, but she reigned it in. Bradbury is another story altogether. Harris is just... bland. Nothing really pops out to me. With her writing dialogue at GH, she still has miles to go before she sleeps -- as far as I'm concerned -- to compete with Mary Sue Price and Michele Val Jean. Mary Sue Price made General Hospital bearable for me during McTavish's dreadful year.
August 9, 200619 yr Member Anyone know anything about the rumors of ghost writers at one or more of the ABC shows?

I do agree with Harris should co-HW or HW for GH. I wonder why Armus dislikes Harris. LOL
August 9, 200619 yr Member Bettina Bradbury is very good at one-liners and funny/sexual double entendres. When she has to write regular conversation between people, her dialogue becomes very trite. She is a big letdown at "World Turns" as Josh Griffith's replacement. And she is responsible for one of the most cringe-worthy lines in recent memory. Erica: "I don't need DNA. I have K-A-N-E." I wept. I think Joanna Cohen will be a fine replacement for Amanda Beall. I saw her first script and it was very good. The dialogue that is, not the ridiculous storylines. I do wonder why "AMC" has not employed a male script writer in almost three years though.

That's too funny. I think Joanna Cohen will be a fine replacement for Amanda Beall. I saw her first script and it was very good. The dialogue that is, not the ridiculous storylines. Do you know anything about Cohen? This is all I found on her and I'm not even sure if they're the same person. http://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/index.p...st&p=242654 I do wonder why "AMC" has not employed a male script writer in almost three years though. GH also doesn't have any male script writers.

August 9, 200619 yr Member Okay I won't be convinced until if/when there is an official press release this fall but here's an interview with Burton Armus, just for kicks: http://www.streethawkonline.com/armusint.html It's about the show Street Hawk he did in the 80s (I actually remember it lol. Didn't last long at all but I liked it) but you can get a taste of who this guy is. They ask him about writer Karen Harris...wonder if she is daytime's Karen Harris. My favorite line: I enjoyed them and liked them a lot better than I did some of the above the line assholes and executives. Good luck dealing with Frons Mr. Armus lol So they asked him about Karen Harris from daytime in an old interview. I guess it's true what people say then. This guy has been a soap buff all his life. He's always wanted to write one. "All My Children" was always his favorite. I guess he decided to write a soap for "retirement". He's won Emmys though on the top nighttime shows, so I think Sheffer will have stiff competition.
August 9, 200619 yr Member I am very excited about his experience on the first two seasons of "NYPD Blue." Now, despite what its title may imply, "NYPD" was much, much more than a straight crime-show procedural a la "CSI" or "Law and Order." The show was about the characters' professional and personal lives, and the personal storylines in particular were particularly provocative and pretty neatly done. Dennis Franz, Kim Delaney, Gordon Clapp, Shirley Knight and others didn't win Emmys for being on a "crime show" they won Emmys for the emotional, meaty storylines thrown at them. The show eventually lost its lustre as time went by but it stormed onto the scene as one of the most talked about and acclaimed shows of its time. Sidebar: I just looked up the episode Burton Armus was nominated for an Emmy for writing - "Personal Foul" - which is one of my favs. And he wrote it with David Milch! Wow - Huge "Deadwood" fan here. Bettina Bradbury - I am not saying her dialogue at "World Turns" is bad; it's just very ordinary and that itself is a letdown from the positively sparkling dialogue from Griffith. Of course this is my own opinion. She's miles ahead of people like Craig Heller and Lynn Martin, but hell, who isn't.

I do wonder why "AMC" has not employed a male script writer in almost three years though. Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me!! If only I had the chance... I love scriptwriting. I've been writing my own continuing story, Anderson Park, which is something I do just to hone my skills, and I do have to say it's made me aware of my strengths and weaknesses. Scriptwriting is my passion!
