I wouldn't be all to upset if JER left, and I'm a big supporter of him.

If anyone, I'd want Sheri Anderson back. I'd be really afraid of what a new writer would do, actually.

Despite what people choose to believe. JER knows the show. And it can sometimes be REALLY shitty under his pen, but I really do trust him with the show.

JER knows what classic soap opera is and he knows DAYS, but he could find some fresher ways to make stories interesting. Despite what many people think, he is not the worst writer out there. None of the current writers, except maybe Lynn Latham at Y&R, would be any better than JER at this point.

Higley was a writer for DAYS for many years and she knew the history, but like so many new HW's, she chose to focus on certain characters and her pet project of the disaster that was Roman and Kate, and the characters are still paying for it. Now she's trashing up OLTL and it's painful to see.

I would love for C&B to return. They were the ones that turned things around and for a short period, made DAYS what it should have been after Langan and his teen obsession.

Another possibility is the writers who wrote for MTV's Spyder Games. I think their style would fit right in with the show, and especially for Sami. Her character has been the same since 1993! A new HW would have to get her out of this rut she's been stuck in for thirteen years.

Couldn't have said it better, Linn. Sheri would make the show truly watchable again.

And while Brash and Cwikley weren't all that bad, are we forgetting that they introduced Rex and Cassie via spaceship? That was pure garbage.

The spaceship thing was stupid, but it was great seeing eric winters so scantly clad for the first couple weeks...

I'm all for Peter Brash taking over, i think he would do an excellent job..Sheri Anderson would just never be able live up to the expectations fans will set for her...I loved her in the past, but i think fans could possibly end up being disapointed...Then the sheri anderson bashing would begin..like whats happened with JER this second go around..

From your mouth to the soap gods ears! I wish Christian and Valerie were working in daytime. B&B would be a terrific show for them, but DAYS would be exciting and humorous under their pen.

Sheri Anderson would get the show back to the 80's with romance and supercouples.

But, I think ANYONE would be better than Jimmy Reilly at this point. Dunno if the stress of two shows or too much creative control had anything to do with it, but Reilly's second go-round with the network sucks.

Agreed Kev. I just think Sheri is held in such high regard that sie is bound to disappoint. The show is much different now and there is a high chance of what is happening to JER possible happening to her. She would attempt to give the fans what she gave them before and that is when the trouble starts.

The alien thing was stupid but Days actually handled it realistically. I mean they actually didn't make it campy and played it how real people would react to something like that. It sucked but it was better the captive island. Brash would do fine and he is so recent he would know the current canvas and what has happened (after all he still works there) and he always went according to history. Plus, like someone said, Cwickly and him were not there long enough to really have alot of stories so they would not recycle at all.

A lot of Rex/Cassie's story was re-written, so I don't really blame B&C for that storyline.

I think Brash is a great writer but I don't expect him to be DAYS' HW again.

I would prefer if JER got a co-HW and a new writing staff. I would love it if Maura Penders, Richard J. Allen, Richard Culliton came back to the staff.

My suggestion:

Head Writers: James E. Reilly and Hogan Sheffer (or Sheri Anderson)

Breakdown Writers: Maura Penders, Peter Brash, Paula Cwickly, Carolyn Culliton

Script Writers: Maura Penders, Sofia Landon Geier, Jeanne Marie Ford, Richard J. Allen (he would also be script editor), Richard Culliton

But it's not just the fact that I and many others want Sheri back. The stuff her and her writing team came up with in the day was can't miss. I would have a straight up attitude when Days was over for the day. Like Linn said, she understood the characters, and that led to romance, drama and adventure. She would have this show back on its feet within 3 months, and that's not building her up or giving her too much credit. I feel that's the truth.

If Ken Corday and NBC Daytime say that listen to their fans, then prove it by giving us what we want.

Two names: Michael and Malone and Josh Griffith. They were the absolute best choice for OLTL, but guess what, their return bombed, especially their last year. It wasn't the 90's anymore and they had Linda Gotlieb.

Back in the 80's, Sheri had Al Rabin, but this time she's gonna have Corday.....that's a HUGE difference. So her return could bomb also.

Toups, I hear ya. It could tank just as bad or WORSE than JER's. But, I just can't help be feel that, given the right writers to work with, she could pull it off.

What stories did she write in her second stint? maybe that would help us gauge what she would and won't do the third time around.

I don't know what stories she wrote in 1992, but I do know that 1991-1992 was horrible (from what I've read). Maybe it was Gene Pulumbo's influence. lol It got better when Reilly came in as co-HW. LOL ;) I don't really know what happened backstage, I can only speculate that Tom Langan got rid of Sheri because either JER wanted her gone or they disagreed on a lot of stuff which would be weird because a lot of people thought Jim and Sheri's reign together was pretty damn good. Their different styles meshed very well.

1991-1992

Gene Palumbo

1992

Richard J. Allen & Beth Milstein

1992

Sheri Anderson

1992

Sheri Anderson & Gene Palumbo

1992

Sheri Anderson

1992-1993

Sheri Anderson & James E. Reilly (reunited again in 2006???)

    • Doug looked delicious in Thursday's episode. The episode wasn't as great as Wednesday's. I was a bit disappointed. It was nice seeing Paul again but I'm not thrilled at the way their writing John's exist.
    • ^ May 21, 2025, Skyy Sandifer scriptwriter for Days.   On May 22, 2025, Jamey Giddens posted a pic of himself with Skyy Sandifer https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ-ePraNBN9/ Caption:  From #Ambitions to #SistasOnBET and now #BeyondTheGates, @sincerelyskyy has been my ride-or-die. #Writers @atlgathers (atlgathers is "The Gathering Spot Atlanta")
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven .  With Denny we now get the arrival of Toni Bua. If the show had been renewed, I wonder if she would have stayed on. Given the influx of new female characters in her age range, I don't know.
    • Happy 40th anniversary, Bo and Hope!

And it was so great to see them again, and for the two of them to finally have scenes with both Shawn and Ciara, as a family. I especially enjoyed the first scene with Hope at Bo’s bedside and the flashback to their wedding. It was really sweet. Victoria Konefal did a really good job too. It really is a shame that things didn’t work out with her… and that her character was so disregarded by the previous writing team. And yeah, they really didn’t need to have Ciara mention her serial killer though. It was not necessary. I mean, Ron’s gone lol we don’t need to do this anymore. And I don’t know where she was going with those leather pants either. As for John, like I said yesterday, I just don’t know. I’m glad that he’s a part of trying to save Bo’s life, but to have him go out like this… As much as I disliked the whole Orpheus thing, maybe they should’ve continued on with that for John’s exit story. Like I said before, and have John sacrifice his own life to kill Orpheus once and for all. Because the fact that Orpheus is still gonna be alive while John isn’t kinda pisses me off. I can’t help but wonder if this was always planned or if Paula/Jeanne changed the story. But I think this whole thing is gonna be very divisive. Soap Twitter/social media will probably be explosive today.
    • It was interesting to peruse Twitter and seeing some fans who were very upset Anna didn't get to do a tango with Chase, while others were glad because they felt that was her special dance with Duke. A good reminder of how long-lasting soap fanbases can be, even as the show has tried to move Anna on. How any Duke/Anna fan did manage to stick with the show I don't know, but points for will power, I suppose.
    • It's probably a good thing most of us don't post here often now as the shameful conduct of the "legacy media" enabling the attention seeking and grudge holding of Tapper and Alex Thompson would probably have broken the servers. I avoid CNN as often as I can, so I had no idea that every anchor on CNN, probably even an AI Larry King, was plugging the book 24/7. The wagons truly are circling, as even some journalists who love to pretend they aren't like the rest, like Dave Weigel, have joined in. I am at the point where I have no use for any major reporters or media figures. I find it especially disgusting when I see reporters who talk about losing loved ones supporting this book after the reports you posted.
    • That wasn't an original song. That song is by ABC and was a huge hit in the 80's. As I was watching I was thinking he just ruined a great tune.

        Looking forward to that.
    • The Hollands obviously had long term story in place for Lee/Caroline/Bobby etc but when the Pollocks arrived they quickly wrapped it up with the new diagnosis and sent them packing. That could have been it for Lee but I think the Elmans brought Lee/Scotty back in their short stint.  Somebody must have regretted dumping Lee.I'm sure Peter Hansen was happy to get the call to return.
    • You have to stop and think: was Estelle the mother to all five children?  How many Mrs. Kendalls existed? Linda Cook played Aileen Kendall in flashbacks, but, at the time, we thought she was the only prior Mrs. Kendall.  It seemed that Aileen’s name was changed to Estelle when Domini Blythe came on.  But Lloyd (Peter Haskell) is said to be going through a divorce when he’s introduced (and when he’s pursuing Sunny).  To me, Aileen is Estelle, and the mother to all the children. The wife Lloyd is divorcing is inconsequential.  Wendy’s fate is never resolved.
    • Oh you are probably right. I thought Marland brought him back but that must have been an interim writer. Tex somebody...?
