I will say the actor playing Doug and Vanessa's son actually looks like he could be their son.

I call it the Douglas Marland effect because any soap opera he was head-writing had that type of dialogue... which was very unrealistic

irna phillips was also known for her clunky dialogue. but she and doug marland certainly knew how to structure story.

I liked his stories, but Douglas Marland's dialogue was often laughable.  ("I ran into Lisa earlier, and she said she'd talked with Bob and Kim, who mentioned to her that Frannie had learned from Kirk that Duncan and Shannon are out of town until tomorrow" -- instead of just saying, "I think Duncan and Shannon are out of town.")

-- Vanessa continues to "grieve" (meaning not one tear shed) in full glam. That long leather skirt and those fake eyelashes really signal a widow in mourning. 😂

-- I cannot wait until Donnell finds out his mother is the town mattress who's also screwing the Golden Corral Casino mob boss.

-- Is Joey really that smart? I don't think bringing in Doug's dealer was such a good idea.

-- I'm so tired of THE DUPREES going after anyone but another Dupree. It's always someone else's fault. Yesterday, Nicole went after Andre. Today it was Naomi. Maybe they should go after Dani, or even better, let her live her own life.

-- I understand the need to see Dani and Bill go after each other. The actors always rise to the occasion. Still, I'd rather see Dani give Bill the finger and tell him to fcuk off. She shouldn't listen to a word he says.

-- Hayley wants to get pregnant, but it stretches the imagination to think Bill Hamilton really wants another baby. Or does it make him feel alpha to knock up a woman?

Dani:  "He is every INCH a man." Goodness! 👀

I remember a scene of Dani complimenting Andre on his prowess in a certain bedroom activity

I wonder if Hayley is going to try to steal Naomi's baby somehow and pass it off as her own.

This is exactly what I thought at the end of today’s episode.

Dani is a typical individual that thinks they deserve more, but actually need to be knocked down a few notches.

I love that the Dupree women are all about empowerment and making their own decisions, yet are always quick to blame a man when a choice they make blows up in their face.  The amount of blame that Andre is getting from the Dupree women is laughable when Dani deserves just as much blame since she's supposed to be a grown 40+ year old woman.

I also like that the show decided to bring on Donnell since the show is too female heavy and I liked that he instantly stepped up to Joey.  He definitely is acting like he could be the son of Doug and Vanessa... and based on his comment about his sister (Deanna).. it sounds like he's the stronger willed of the two.   I would have preferred if Doug and Vanessa had two sons instead of one son.. and not have any daughter.

I just hope Donnell would be subjected to 30+ year old Samantha

My biggest fear. But I have doubts they'll go there as Ol' Sammy has been explicitly established as 15-16.

I can just imagine the twitterverse getting on him for grooming a woman a decade older

I have loved this entire week of episodes. Dani & Bill are 🔥🔥🔥 The relationship is beyond toxic, but they have that special something. Hayley is so pathetic and I feel Andre is in his needy phase. Dani is definitely going to break his heart.

Donnell calling Jan, Aunt Jan, made perfect sense to me and no, I didn't think Vanessa and Jan were sisters. It's a sign of respect for a child to call an adult their "aunt" or "uncle".

I love how many different stories are going at once, even Derek & Ashley's, because it's pulling in other people from the cast and not making them an island by themselves.

Putting aside the Ashley story vortex I think it's been a remarkably strong week, dialogue-wise and vis a vis family interactions. The breakdowns seem to be moving differently too - the way stuff flowed with the confrontations at the club with Nicole and Ted, Anita reacting to Dani and Andre, etc.

I do think Dani and Bill will be back together in 6-9 months, if not by the new year. They're still just scorching.

I don't understand why a daughter wouldn't come to town for her father's funeral.

Where is this university supposed to be?

With Donnell on the scene, is he going to dealing with life from Orphey Gene's?

The MacBrides need a house.

It would actually be nice if Dani or Nicole, both victims of cheating spouses actually called her out. It’s so weird that they’ve been devastated by cheating in their marriages but they’re both close with a cheater that will fu.ck any man that’s not her husband and even pay for it.

I also wouldn’t recast Haley. The actress is perfectly fine in what they’ve given her. Especially since Robotmas still gets a paycheck and front burner story while being exponentially worse and quite literally only competing with Sofia on DAYS as the worst actor on Daytime.

The bonds of growing up together. They are used to Vanessa's naughtiness. Especially Dani LongLegs.

Hehe. Not DAYS catching a stray.

I can always find something to complain about with this show (June's warp speed move from the underpass to the soul food cafe), but typically they never drop a storyline thread.  Even immediately after Doug's death, when Vanessa was in the police station with Jacob, she was being assured that if any foul play was involved in Doug's wreck, Jacob would crack the case.  She said, "What about Laura Peterson? Did you solve that?"  Everything that's happened seems to still be on the writers' minds and comes back into play at some point.

Same.

Sidenote...Jacob tricking Shanice into basically admitting Derek is hiding something without her having to break any oath. Such a detective move. Nice to see one with a brain.

1. The connection between Hayley and Randy.

2. Did Hayley only marry Bill to drain him dry

Given Dani's dialogue today...and how she's been surprisingly on the money about Ms. Dimera...I mean Hayley...I'm seriously starting to wonder about Number 2. Could Randy and Hayley have a past with Bill that we don't know about yet?

Yes!!!  I was happy to see that acknowledged. Interesting how they used Doug's storyline to bring it together, but I liked it!

People had been asking about it for a while. And I agree that was a clever way to do it. It also touched on the Dani/Anita dynamic only hinted at in Week 1 again which was a bonus.

My biggest complaints for BTG often involve production and they have gotten on my nerves once again!

Vanessa and Doug (RIP) have been two of the biggest standouts since the show began. I literally accepted since we met him that he wouldn't live long but I was okay with that as long as they did him justice in his death. I feel like they've done a decent job so far but my production complaint is: How is Vanessa on contract with no set?

She should not be dressed to the nines, grieving in public. This is her time to shine and time for them to pay tribute to Doug. We should see Jan welcoming person after person into her home to express their condolences. We should see her in sweats on the couch with Donnell in her arms as they grief the loss of Doug. We should see people bringing food for them to eat.

They did all that bragging about how many sets they had but didn't think to give one to one of their main characters? I don't understand how they have so much space and allegedly 27 sets but we keep seeing stupid things like this happen over and over. This is why I say they need a better executive producer to handle the day-to-day. For one, they need a new set designer and two, they need someone who knows how to create sets that can be redressed so you can have more locations with the same amount of space!

Things like this and keeping people like Alex Algeria and Ben Gavin employed annoy me. All that talk about excellence yet they settle for mediocrity in ways they simply don't have to.
