ARTICLE: ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Star Thorsten Kaye Heads To ‘Beyond The Gates’ In CBS Soap Crossover

Thorsten Kaye, The Bold and the Beautiful

Although an air date has not been announced, CBS’ daytime dramas “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Beyond the Gates” will have their first-ever crossover, with actor Thorsten Kaye from the long-running half-hour drama series making an appearance in an upcoming episode of the hot new drama.

In a preview for what’s to come this fall on “Beyond the Gates,” the network teased that Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley), who, during an impromptu trip with Andre (Sean Freeman), is directed toward a promising connection with Ridge, after she and her beau encounter a shocking revelation.

Kaye’s appearance on “Beyond the Gates” marks the show’s first-ever crossover with “The Bold and the Beautiful,” though the second-ever crossover overall between the new soap and a CBS sibling, following the August crossover featuring Bryton James as Devon Hamilton from “The Young and the Restless.”

“Beyond the Gates,” which was created by former “The Bold and the Beautiful” writer Michele Val Jean, continues to roll out all-new episodes from Season 1 this fall, with big things happening as teased here. Meanwhile, “The Bold and the Beautiful” launches Season 39 on Monday, September 15, and the drama escalates as Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor (Rebecca Budig) go head to head after Ridge makes a life-changing choice in the wake of a glamorous Forrester fashion show.

Who needs a chauvinist pig when Misandry is the order of the day at BTG LOL

Thorsten Kaye is not a draw for BTG, and I can't think of a character I want to see less.

It'll have as much impact on story as Devon did: NONE. The show continued to run promos of Bryton's appearance even after it was over, which made no sense. I don't know why they flew him to Georgia for that.

It would make more sense to send a young designer to meet with ChelseaKat, or have a designer -- again, YOUNG -- meet with Dani over some modeling gig.

Why?? Beyond The Gates is desperate. They can’t stand on their own.

Agreed

So is Ridge going to confuse Dani with Maya?

Is Ridge even considered a popular character? Who would possibly tune in for this?

No one.

Most of us here don't like Ridge, but if there's one thing CBS Daytime is always gonna do it's these goofy crossovers with the various soaps. That practice goes back decades, it's not some 'desperation' throw for BTG specifically. They've been doing it with Y&R and B&B solo for a long time too. And whether I care about B&B or not (I don't!) it does get people in the general audience to turn their eye to another show, those who have somehow internalized watching unwatchable B&B for years.

It's cross-promotion, as Vee said.   Y&R and B&B do this with some of the CBS primetime reality shows -- for example BigBrother houseguests sometimes appear as single-episode U/5s on B&B or Y&R --- with almost nothing to do but maybe bring a main character coffee or a file folder --- but CBS promotes the heck out of those appearances.

Lol so now it’s desperate for BTG to have synergy with the other soaps like the networks haven’t been doing this for literally decades. The only desperation I see is the concern trolling from people that don’t even regularly watch BTG.

A crossover with B&B hardly speaks of desperation. Nothing against Thorsten Kaye, but he's not even one of the MVPs for B&B itself so he'd hardly be a draw. If anything CBS is trying to draw BTG viewers to the other soaps since it is developing a following independent of Y&R and B&B.

Just no.  Beyond The Gates is excellent.  B&B sucks.

B&B has higher ratings than BTG. I personally much prefer B&B than BTG

B&B has been on the air for 38 years so it's no surprise it has higher ratings than BTG. BTG is bringing new soap viewers and buzz to the soap genre. I love/hate B&B as much as the next person but BTG IMO is far superior to the majority of the soaps still around.

I would say that GH is doing a better job this year tbh

I agree that this isn't a desperation move, but saying the purpose is for BTG to help B&B is a stretch. Not to say ideally they wouldn't help each other, but the goal is to use an established show to help a new show.

BTG is relatively weaker vs the rest of the CBS shows in W25-54 vs W18-49 so using a character like Ridge who is likely popular in the upper part of that demo makes sense. I have no idea what the show's strategy is regarding selling the show abroad, but having a slide in the sales deck showcasing a guest appearance from a recognizable B&B character wouldn't hurt.
