I hate to be "that person" but the way the scriptwriting is set up, it seems that Dani is the one that's supposed to be the Erica Kane type of the show.

Understood.  But If Dani is the bad-girl.  That makes Hayley the good-girl, which means she cannot be faking her pregnancy. Be careful what you wish for...  LOL

And because Dani was raised in wealth with two parents and an older sister... she can't be the Erica Kane type.

Erica Kane was a have not that was driven to be successful in order to finally gain the love of her father that was long with held (in her mind).

Nail on head. The Mosley character is surrounded by people who support and enable her, people that (to her credit) she doesn’t really manipulate or use. Her family is supposedly the most influential family in town, and she has gotten away with legitimate crimes because of it. Erica had Mona, and she used her to her benefit whenever necessary. Mark came along, and he was decidedly hands off when it came to how she conducted her personal life (not really condoning or condemning her actions). Until she had young adult daughters, that was the extent of her family and long-term support system.

Hayley, with her attraction to Bill, who was probably a paternal presence in her life from the very beginning, is cut right from the Erica cloth. The fake pregnancy is kinda without a real motive, but it tracks as an Erica-like move. Flaunting her marriage in front of everyone tracks, too. The main thing that sticks out, IMO, is her being such close friends with Naomi and the rest of the Hamilton branch of the family, and that’s okay bc in the end she is her own character with her own story. I think delving into her family is at the top of my BTG wish list.

I think on paper Hayley might've made an interesting Erica Kane analog. In reality she's always been a cipher to me, and I don't think MG has elevated the character much. Dani fills that role and has done so well for me. YMMV.

So tired of MVJ's non-Friday cliffhangers. Leave us in suspense, MVJ, so that we will tune in to Monday's episode.

One big mistake BTG has made is not giving Hayley a talk-to character.

I thought that was going to be Caroline, based on their pre-wedding interactions.

This had better change, and soon. It's obviously very noticeable because it's been mentioned many times before and it continues to be pointed out.

It must not be easy to plan when your network is constantly pre-empting your show.

On another note, does anyone else find the latest use of flashbacks to be very B&B-esque?

Caroline is Bill's employee and ultimately is loyal to him. She was never gonna be a true confidante for Hayley

Thanks to the pre-emptions.. the Friday episode is technically the Wednesday episode.

And I believe while the show is filmed 3 months or so in advance, the scripts were written at least five months in advance so when pre-emptions happen.. the writers can't correct/tweak the scripts

And that’s unfortunate, because they had a solid rapport, and she’s wasted as yet another Bill yes-man.

  • So, Derek is going to try and run a triathlon tomorrow? Homeboy is going to end up in the ICU with an injury. I am calling it now.
  • Not only is Shanice messy as a mess, but she is also unprofessional as frick. She should be relieved of her duties for her disgusting conduct.
  • Not Vernon trying to sneak out like a teenager who slept over at their girlfriend's house without their parents knowing. But, with messy Deadbeat's mug... he has been caught.
  • Well, "Sammy" and Bill have come face-to-face, and I am sure that Bill would love to know how he knows his wife or became involved in that way.
  • Vernon has a meeting? With a certain Winters?
  • Good on Andre for being honest with Dani and making it known he wants to pursue things with Ashley on a serious level. Now go get your woman!!!
  • Oatmeal Raisin? No. It is chocolate chip or no cookies at all! Take 'em back, Jan.
  • Good on Dani for taking responsibility, but at this, she did not cause a miscarriage; it either happened before, or it never happened because the child bride was never pregnant.
  • Oh, some history between Bill and Dani, and a bit of Bill's backstory concerning his father. Hmmm... could this be leading to something else down the line? I would not hate it. That's right, child bride, look at the true, genuine connection your husband has with his [ex-]wife.
  • I love all that Anita has done in Barbara's name; it shows how much Barbara truly does mean to her and to the history of the Articulettes.
  • So, Anita performed at Neil's club Indigo? And they knew Neil? Oh, I love that.
  • COME ON ASHLEY! DO NOT DO THIS! STOP AND THINK! YOU AND ANDRE BELONG TOGETHER!
  • Winters Mood? Oh, so Devon wants Anita to record a jazz album. I love it. And Anita has a family archivist? That's interesting. But what a sweet idea to honour Barbara.

Notes:

  • After two days of shorter scenes... we are getting to have more scenes both before and after the opening, and that makes me very happy.
  • Gosh... the "barefaced" look on Tamara Tunie is stunning. She is glowing brighter than the brightest sun! Sometimes less is more!
  • Timon Kyle Durrett (Bill) showed some beautiful range today in his scenes opposite Karla Mosley (Dani); not to mention, they both have sparkling chemistry that is undeniable.
  • You can tell this was a passion crossover for Michele Val Jean; talking so highly about Neil and missing him, it is a clear nod to the loss of Kristoff St. John. I love that. Beautiful pieces of the dialogue.
  • And just like that, Bryon James (Devon) fits in so well on this canvas, and his chemistry with the cast (as well as Mosley) is bubbling.
