I doubt he will affect the ratings that much - they didn't improve noticeably when he returned in 2010, and they didn't when he came back last year. I think most of the viewer base had moved on from Lucky a long time ago. The problems are...so much else.

If they actually use Liz, that would be inevitable, although probably more along the lines of Ric pining for Liz and Ava coming after her.

That's it exactly. I suppose that's also how Frank saw him. The only difference is Kevin did get some decent material here and there.

I agree they could have done more with him, but even if they had tried, I think there was a lot of damage done and the character had just been gone for too long without enough on the current canvas to really make it work. I think Lucky last really had worth as a character when JJ left in 1999. He could have under Greg Vaughan but Geary and Guza spit on that at every turn.

They could have done more with him than the icky Kristina/Lucky relationship that seemed to be in the works though. Amazing how Frank has made so many bad choices with Kristina after presumably paying a big price to bring Kate in.

Not surprising. After seeing his pathetic scenes on today's episode, where he says Port Charles is not his home, I expected to come on here and see this, and here it is.

JJ should retire. He doesn't have it anymore. Lucky should probably be killed off or hardly ever mentioned again. The writers and producers made a mistake in trying to make Lucky into a version of Luke. A Luke type charactrer doesn't fit in today's day and age. Luke and Lucky are dinosaurs best left in the past.

With proper writing I think that could make sense - Lucky's happiest years were in Canada and on the run, not in Port Charles. But the show has never done well at explaining why Lucky is the way he is (among other reasons it's because having an abusive father and a mother who suppressed herself to survive living with her rapist does not make for a well-adjusted son).

The return was doomed from the get go. FV didn't want Lucky, but needed him to rebuild Laura's family. His introduction was crap.

The chemistry with Herbst is still there, but #firefrank can't use Becky to prop pets if she's actually got a story that matters. Her numbers will go back down.

There are way too many characters on the show, and several already fill the cop/hero character that Lucky used to represent on the canvas. They built so much around Dante with the "Gio" story, and, Chase is also too connected to just drop.

They barely connected Lucky to anyone but Elizabeth, Laura, Lulu and Kristina, he barely shared scenes anywhere else. The character was never given anything substantial to do. Dayplayers spend more time  behind the bar at Charlie's than he did.

Instead we have crap characters like Dalton, Vaughn and Boyle getting more play around the canvas, along with the guy that tried to kill him when he returned being all over like horse s**t. Until they get rid of Valentini, every tiny positive that comes along will only last until #firefrank is bored.

I wouldn't be shocked if Easton turned back up...

And I do agree that they not once attempted to clean up Lucky's "unhoused chic" look...   With a better EP and writers... well you all know how this show is.

That's a shame! Unlike most of you, I've been really enjoying the Liz and Lucky scenes, but they did seem like they came from a different show. They were on their own little island, especially once Liz broke her leg and was only seen in the home set.

Even their lowkey naturalistic acting styles seemed like it was on a different show. I actually thought Liz's calm-but-frustrated response to the Kristina revelation was in character for her, but it did feel weird on an episode that was otherwise all about characters shouting at each other about Gio's parentage.

I'll just try to be grateful that we got 9 months of JJ (sporadically) back on screen, and they did a bit to repair the crappy state of the Lucky/Liz relationship.

    • Thank you. I know we're all supposed to see that BTG is progressive when it comes to queer characters, but it's telling that they won't commit to showcasing gay or bi males who are single and looking. That relationship couldn't be any more traditional. Will we ever get a bedroom scene with Smitty and Martin? I have my doubts.
    • This is a pretty huge thing IMO, but I guess we will see what happens? Can't get any worse then already.
    • This can be difficult for a soap to depict. So far she's only shown an interest in women. Will a man come into her life? If she commits to a male, there will be  backlash, but if it's women only, them where is the bi/queer aspect? Personally, I would have liked a single gay male on the show dealing with hook ups/relationships etc. Smitty/Martin married with kids is limiting in those terms.
    • Of course, how could I have forgotten those thrilling episodes depicting the fire? Also we had the GCAC rooftop set that came out every Summer. Moving on to Friday's episode. Victor is propped in his chair, answers his cell and tells the caller 'Let him in'. Seconds later Kyle enters. So does Victor have security on the front porch? It would have been better had Victor taken the call, and then said to himself 'Well Kyle, let's see what you have to say'and fade out. Next scene Kyle enters, indicating that the first call was from the Ranch entrance and time had passed . Nit picky but I get frustrated when they do stuff like that.
    • Jordan was gone from '87 to mid-'89. He left just weeks after Robert's late '86 return.

    • I don't think Chelsea has a true label just yet. She's just finding out she has an interest in women. I think the awkwardness is aligned with the character as we've seen. This is the fool who keeps filming her family when embarrassing things happen and live streaming it. I actually think it's refreshing she isn't just jumping into a relationship  and that they're playing the beats of her trying to figure out who she is.
    • Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. YAWN. -- Kat is making mistakes, but she's fun to watch and listen to, regardless. -- I still think the Joey/Vanessa/Doug gambling story sucks. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
    •   Victoria's house (that she long ago lived in with Billy) burned down (I think Aunt Jordan set it ablaze?). Victoria briefly moved into the ranch after the fire, with Claire, Johnny and Katie, I think? Mariah and Tessa and baby Aria had been living in the tack house but they bought a house we've never seen and moved there. Victoria, Claire, and Cole then moved into the tack house as soon as Teriah left. I guess Victoria's children Johnny and Katie would live with Victoria at the tack house eventually? But Johnny and Katie went to boarding school during the school year. Not sure if we'll see Johnny and Katie for the summer vacation or where they would live.
