I feel like Chelsea is going to end up in a situation where one of the people in these threesomes is going to get jealous and go off on her.

Leslie's anger toward Eva today showed how dangerous she really is. We already know she's not too sane, but that ending showed she is willing to go off on Eva too.

-- Did anyone else Daphnee Duplaix in a guest role on last night's St. Denis Medical? She played a wealthy hospital benefactor in the final scene.

-- Not buying Chelsea going in so hard on her mother working with her. Didn't we get weeks of Chelsea wanting to be on her own?

-- Derek and Ashley did all they could with those magazine relationship quiz scenes. The actor playing Derek had his best day today.

-- I do not believe the show has already shown that they know Derek and Ashley aren't working.

-- Vanessa and Doug have a lot of sexual chemistry -- certainly more than Vanessa and Joey.

I think so too. For the first time... he was above studio-produced porn acting. I don't know if I'm just getting used to all of these people, but everyone seems to be improving. Absolutely everyone.

I haven't watched this weeks episodes yet beyond some clips but I did want to go back to the conversation about criticism for the show. I think part of why everybody is on a different page is because it's been so long since we had a new soap and everybody has didn't expectations and time-tables in mind.

I know for myself there are many things I'd change but overall I am still enjoying the day-to-day. The changes I want are more based around the production model and casting. I am still enjoying the writing and the pacing. But I also keep in mind we're still watching stuff from before the show aired. We know they're continuously making tweaks behind the scenes and we know we have something significant coming in May, in addition to a major recast. Even then, we'll only be looking at changes they made based on what they saw while still in a bubble without the show airing. It could be another 2-3 months before we see any changes based on the public reaction to the show.

For me, that's why I've chosen not to focus so much on the negatives. It's very rare a soap launches perfectly and as long as I can enjoy the show on a day-to-day basis, that's all I need right now. I guess for me the point I'd start to really be critical would probably be August-September. I feel like that's enough time to work out kinks and make changes based on feedback.

But I will say, reading all of the different opinions in here is part of my joy watching the show. I don't expect everybody to think the same as me and I enjoy seeing everybodys thoughts, even if they aren't enjoying the show.

This show has a lot of interesting elements, but a lot of boring filler material too. Perhaps if it was 30 minutes, we'd get more of the interesting and less of the boring. 60 minutes, especially for a brand new soap, is hard.

I thought that was intentional -- because they cut from Vanessa/Joey to Doug/Andre -- Andre asking Doug about his injury, while Doug was thinking about Joey's threats. They showed Vanessa and Doug never in the same scene as each other throughout the episode, and indicating perhaps that Vanessa and Joey were thinking about sex with each other... and then near the end of the episode Doug noticing through the restaurant window that Joey/Vanessa were sitting together.
And then suddenly, at the end, the surprise to the viewers of Vanessa/Doug having sex.

I acknowledge that some editing in this series is choppy.  But I wasn't bothered by the transition from Vanessa/Joey to Doug/Andre.

Some people are saying there are no longer any surprises after two months. This was certainly a sexy, pleasant surprise!

Speaking of sexy, who here would have rathered a scene with Chelsea and company getting down instead of Derelict and Ashley?

Thanks for the heads up. I don't normally watch that show but will check out her episode.

I literally said the same thing (much Harsher) last night to a friend.

Me LOL.

Yeah, I spoke about this briefly with @Cheap21. It's much needed.

Nicole looked elegant as always in her suit and Ted in the Hugo Boss jacket with the label prominently displayed. That is unusual to have logos on show.

We would expect the actors to improve as timer goes on. If you're starting out, never worked on a soap before with the workload involved some might struggle.

Now if in a few more months those same actors are still  struggling, some hard decisions will have to be made.

    • Hm. I just realized that Dani/Andre feel like the main B plot this week. And I'm not at all complaining about that. I just figured it would be Doug/Joey/Vanessa storyline, but there is one last week in this month so perhaps that is just going to be a C plot until next week.
    • Thanks for starting this thread!  I was hoping others were listening and would want to chat about it. I'm really enjoying Montecito!  The production and audio values are top notch. The storylines are interesting and keep me wanting more.  There is corporation succession, cheating, alcoholism, bisexual relationships, divorced parents, brother/sister drama, scorned mother, father/son relationship issues, etc. At first I couldn't stand Mena's (sp?) voice, but I've grown to enjoy her and I love to hate her as a villain. I keep hearing Smitty (BTG) in Mike Manning's voice, so it keeps throwing me haha. The only thing going against it is one episode per week, at only 18 minutes long, so we need more content. Anyone else listening and enjoying it?
    • This, plus they nixed their overnight set crew during the COVID era and never brought them back.

    • I did some research because I had a similar question. (also, I don't want to poop on your joke which was amusing, but it sent me down a rabbit hole) A Reddit user who works at TeleVision City (where Y&R is filmed) estimated it takes 45 minutes to set up or reconstruct an already built set.  However, according to union rules, it takes at least seven crew members (not counting lighting and sound installation).  As always, the real cost is the labor, not the task.   Y&R uses robotic cameras, so there is only a skeleton crew on set.  Most of their crew budget goes to production assistants, who cannot move sets.  So, they would need to hire a crew every time they wanted to put up or take down a set (for two days) as well as a lighting and sound design installation.  Which is obviously very different from how production worked when money was more freely spent (and good for the unions for keeping the workplace safe). So, filming a single day in Lauren and Michael's living room could cost as much as they spend on two actors salaries for an entire year.
    • I knew Giovanni Mazza was talented but damn that kid is a star in the making.
    • The Nurses' Ball has always been cringey, fast forward material for me, but especially during the Frank era. The musical numbers and audience reactions are unwatchable.  So many of the conflicts on this show feel phony and manufactured. Probably no better instance is the Gio - Dante crap. Gio's whole story is inorganic, plot driven, no stakes, fake conflict; giving people lame drama just to give them drama, a prime example of GH under Frank.
    • What is the reason why soaps can’t use whatever sets they want? How exactly does it cost money..? I’m sure they still have Michael and Lauren’s house, why can’t they just put it up and shoot it when needed lol
    • I'm binging last week and I still find it so odd how different the show feels. Before I felt like each episode felt so long but the show is gliding by now. I'm on Thursday and it's crazy how real the characters feel. It doesn't feel like Days of Our Lives because I'm so used to everything being slapstick. It's definitely nice seeing layers to the characters now. I'm beginning to feel really confident about the coming months when the new headwriters can introduce their own stories.
