I didn't even realize that New Jack Swing was an actual genre. You learn something new every day.

I definitely think the show should build a family around Joey especially since he's got a lot of potential and he's a very interesting and compelling character. He's obviously being positioned to be the big bad of the show especially with the show softening up Bill lately. And since he's already mentioned an ex-wife, maybe they could introduce the ex-wife, (assuming she's actually an ex and not the actual wife), and their kids if he has kids at this point. Maybe those kids could be in the same age range as Kat/Chelsea/Naomi/Jacob/Tomas/Veronica and Doug's twins, etc.

I would be fine with Tomas's family and Jacob's family serving as middle-class/working class people.

Before New Jack Swing had a name and Teddy Riley claimed it there were songs that were sort of in that style, like Outstanding - The Gap Band (1983) and Somebody Else's Guy - Jocelyn Brown (1984). I think that MVJ or someone else on staff just likes New Jack Swing and that's why the song ended up in that genre.

Brandon Claybon is husband material. Perfect teeth, nice face, nicely portioned body.

🤩

The finest man on the show in my opinion.

It's so nice to see a soap where the characters are actually having fun. Of course we know the mess is coming, but it's great to have a balance.

I still don't believe Ted is Eva's father but boy I can't wait until the fallout and then the reveal that Ted isn't her father and that fallout.

With us so close to May I wonder when Keith will debut as Ted.

I love that they did a swerve and had Anita perform an Uptempo New Jack Swing song. I'm sure the expectation was that it would be an Motownesque track so I was surprised when it wasn't.

The Joey/Doug/Vanessa story is really starting to show some legs. I want them to throw Shanice into the mix of this as well someway.

Leslie was spending that 50K wasn't she lol. I wonder if we'll see other characters at the casino since that was her alibi to the ladies.

Walking into the episode and the first thing I see is karaoke. And thought about all the people here that don't like singing episodes. And myself like liking karaoke for the most person for personal reasons and only to support my friends who have karaoke nights. Though I loved seeing Anita's reaction at Naomi and Dani calling her out. Such a black mama look. lol.

And oooooooooo the HAVE-NOTS!!!!

And awww hell no...not Eva with Tomas when Kat is not around. uh oh now.

The oh too short scenes are a weak point on any soap opera.  Just as I'm getting into the scene, it flashes to the next scene.

The whole Dupree 'Pick Me' scenes were flash forward for me.. while the other scenes sparked my interest.

Is the casino Silk Press Sheila mentioned the same casino as Joey's?  I wonder if one day soon, we'll see her there interacting with Joey and/or Doug?

Eva and Tomas are so cute in scenes together.

Ooooo not Anita throwing that other side of her at Vernon like that. How unexpectedly vicious.

And @ReddFoxx I think you were right last week because it ain't the case today with what's under the hood and it shows. In more ways than one. ;)

That was a pretty good performance.

Wait. Does that mean that Joey is working for someone else that is trying to get to Doug?

Eva continues to give SMG Kendall Hart and I love every minute of it.

Eva is a Swiftie and quoted a song - just another reason to love her.  LOL  Whoever said Danielle Paige like to make pop culture references was right because we got a lot of them today.

I enjoyed most today's episode, minus the Joey/Doug scenes.  However, this is another episode with a lacklustre ending.

I said that because she often has a character reference Beyoncé, at least her first few scripts did.

I saw that Danielle Paige was the script writer, and I was pleasantly surprised that she had previously done Locher Room interviews about her time on Guiding Light before she became a novelist.  The two things she mentioned in the interview she did on that channel was the following:

1)  She mentioned Claire Labine was the one to give her a chance at writing a script.. and was taught about soap opera writing from her.

2) She mentioned her first task when starting her soap writing career at GL was writing extra scene if the script ran short on time so she would write the 'filler' scenes that were strong and interesting.  She cited a hot tub scene with Alan/Claire.. and an intense Beth/Lillian scene as her first solo scenes she wrote on an episode that Claire loved.

Today, seeing the Eva and Tomas scene & the Have Not scenes really show her talent at writing those type of scenes.

Negatives:

Eva chatting with the bougie bunch at the country club, while they had their noses pointed up at her, yet neither could pronounce osetra or sommelier properly. I don't run in those circles and I know how to pronounce those words. Wondering why no one corrected this. I was mildly less bothered by it when they admitted to Eva they also aren't from "that world."

What is this impromptu hospital set with all those privacy screens? It looks a mess. Honestly, they could have used the same space and created a triage area that would work so well for other scenes if they invested in hospital stories. They could have lined those privacy screens so it looked like rows instead of the scattered mess they had them in and put one bed in the section that's actually being filmed. Could have been like Doug was getting immediate attention without taking up a room, since he's staff.

Martin and Tomas line delivery is still emotionless, but they've improved.

Positives:

The family dynamic at Uptown was cute. "Clerb" was funny...seeing this side of Dani was actually refreshing.

Not sure where they're going with this Anita singing stuff. The song was okay, but I second whoever said it sounded a bit New Jack Swing and definitely not what Anita would be singing in her group. Although, Donna Summer and Diana Ross experimented with some of their sound in throughout the 80s, so I'm going to give that a pass.

Martin's butt and bulge. They know what they're doing. Also, Martin fangirling to his grandma's music was perfection. Would have been even better if they had Smitty belting out her music as well. Pure queer cinema.

I assumed they were placed that way to cover up another identifiable set, to give the illusion this was a separate place.

I thought so too, but it looks awful. It's also unnecessary. They could have done that whole scene somewhere else.

Trisha Mann-Grant and Ambyr Michelle should move on to bigger and better things as soon as their initial contracts are up.

I think she lied to her friends at the diner about where she got the money for the fancy clothes. She probably bought the clothes with some of the money Ted paid her to leave town.  I don't think she's been to the casino recently.  I think she just made up the lie on the spot. in order to explain how she could afford it.   Well, maybe she used some of Ted's money to gamble at the casino?  But I doubt it.  Maybe she thinks none of her diner friends go to the casino, so they wouldn't check.
