I did not (I was a teenager then), probably because I didn't know their ages at the time and I didn't realize there was such a big age gap.  But I was disgusted when she was with "old man" Bob Anderson, when the actor was only around six months older than Bill Hayes, lol.

A considerable suspension of disbelief was required today.

Yes, I understand there’s no SEC in the Days-verse to scrutinize the DiMera/Titan merger—but how, exactly, do Xander and Philip have the phone numbers of the entire DiMera board? And let’s not forget: Titan shuttered Theresa’s magazine just a few months ago due to the poor sales of a single issue. Who in their right corporate mind would want to merge with that?

Also, Mr. Shin flew into Salem a day after the stock dipped—but didn’t bother showing up when his son's murderer was caught or his daughter was kidnapped?

I won’t even delve too deeply into today’s most glaring ask of the audience—Belle. If one is aware they’re imagining a conversation, why would they say it out loud? Unless, of course, they also know they're on television. When I’m alone in a hospital room, I manage to keep my inner monologue inner. But somehow, thanks to Salem’s uncanny sense of timing, Sami manages to bypass Aunt Kayla and slip into EJ’s room just in time to overhear her sister’s big confession.

The highlight for me? JJ and Shawn. I appreciate that the show uses them to bounce ideas off each other rather than leaving one detective to soliloquize about motives and opportunities like a noir throwback. Also, the bullet still being at the hospital? Perfect. It neatly reaffirms that every division of the Salem PD is reliably incompetent, and gives JJ and Shawn a plausible reason to be there.

In summary: logic may have taken a personal day, but at least the banter was gainfully employed.

Posts like this make me wish that the Internet, and this board existed in the 60s, 70s and 80s, just so that we could read people's initial reactions to characters, storylines, etc.

I find it very ironic that, on the day that's exactly two weeks until Ron's last day, we get an episode that's a perfect example of one of the reasons as to why he was fired in the first place

Julie always felt more worldly and sophisticated to me.  Holly seems like a dumb teenage girl, which is fair.  Julie made immature and stupid decisions, but I always thought a man her own age wouldn't be the right fit for her if that makes sense?  Looking back the age disparity is probably a bit much, but it didn't show on screen.   I don't think the show was trying to hide the age difference.  He was bff with her uncle and married her mom.  I just never really thought about it mostly because they were married IRL so it just made sense.

Ironically, I like the fact that JJ and Shawn had scenes in a variety of settings.

Yet, given the filming schedule that we've heard about, I'm willing to bet that Sami never leaves EJ's side for this entire visit to Salem.  Maybe we'll get a second set of scenes with Roman and Kate at the Pub.  But, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see Sami in more than two places.

Today was an improvement over yesterday. There was a lot more depth and maturity in the writing. It really was like night and day.

Sami and Belle’s reunion/confrontation was the best part of today. Sami told her a lot of hard truths that I’m glad Belle hasn’t accepted yet. It could lead to some pretty good drama somewhere down the line. And, we got confirmation that Belle knows about Johnny’s conception. Hopefully, that means we’ll get more scenes of Belle trying to figure out why she loves a man who hurt so many members of her family. And I liked that we got an update about Marlena and Steve as well.

Sami’s scenes with a comatose EJ are exactly what Belle should have gotten yesterday. Talking about the way that she feels but not treating it like a big joke. I seriously can’t wait for her scenes with Johnny.

I also enjoyed Chad and Johnny’s scenes. I liked that Chad was there for him while he raged about his parents. Their conversation hit a lot of important beats about Sami and EJ. And Chad using his own history with his mother in order to get Johnny to come around about EJ was a good idea, even though I hope that Johnny doesn’t forgive EJ yet. He needs to be at odds with him for a very long time.

And, I didn’t mind Alex being such a bitch about Philip, but it would work much better if Alex was being written as the villain, instead of the righteous good guy because that still doesn’t work lol and it never will. That’s clearly not RSW’s style

And, Sarah does not need to be another character made to look bad in order to make him look good either.

But welcome back, Vivian! We’ve missed you too.

I don't understand how Sami knows that Johnny found out she was raped? - Is that supposed to be a clue, or am I missing something?

He keeps saying that he couldn't get in touch with her.  And, I don't imagine he told her through voicemail.  So, how does she know that he knows?

I also don't know how Chad knew that EJ raped Sami, but somehow it feels more plausible that it was discussed during Abby's recovery. So, I didn't question that scene.

I liked the very adult scene between Alex and Sarah.  I'm trying not to let external stuff get in the way of just enjoying the 40 minutes of streaming time.  And I found that once I let that go, I enjoy Alex.  Even though we have no solid character analysis of him, other than, he's quick to anger and equally quick to calm down and forgive.

On the other hand, it felt incredibly juvenile for Xander and Philip to gloat to Gabi about taking over her company (that she owns from a divorce settlement, so it seemed odd that she was so quick to give up the fight).

I also like the creative storytelling of slowly filling in the time gap between when we last saw everyone prior to EJ getting shot, and where they were during the shooting.

Finally, Sami's dress was a good choice to indicate that she just flew in from Italy.  There was something very Dolce&Gabanna about the print and the fit.

Just another example of what could happen when you don't give actors enough rehearsal time.  At the very least, it would've been CB and BF's chance to get the laughs out of their systems so they could really sell the fight later on in taping.  (Of course, as ridiculous as the show's writing often is, I don't blame them for having near-laughing fits while taping, lol).

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
