I really thought Martin would be the first recast because the role is such a major part in the Dupree family. We really needed a slightly younger Martin to be believable as Nicole's son with it being specified that Martin and Smitty just adopted these grown ass kids when they were 12 and 13 for it to make sense.

I don't think Derek will be recast. I think the role will just fade.

OOOOOOO...I like that idea!

Derek just doesn't have any spark to him at this point.

Really. I would argue that their decision has already backfired. People saw the photo I posted above on Facebook and one poster after the other was like HELL NO! The negative responses are pretty amazing if you ask me. This show is brand new. They cannot be making any more hasty decisions going forward. They just can't. The audience counts in a very big way. I hope the showrunners remember that.

I'm thankful it's early on. Before we had established some emotional ties with that beautiful man. LOL.

It doesn't bother me.

While they are at it - fix Martin and Ashley too.

Agreed. Look at Vanessa, Joey, and Pamela. I am more interested in learning more about them than I am Ashley and Derek.

Ashley is just too saccharine for me. She needs grit, and I imagine she'd've had it as she is one of the "have-nots." Thank God for Eva.

I think Vanessa's twins are easy to bring on, as are any family of Pamela. (Vanessa's kids are mixed, but if they must have 100% white characters anyone in Pamela's family is easy enough - or just new people) Agreed about Ashley.

I don't see them ditching the character of Ted. I genuinely do not, especially if Keith D. Robinson was signed to contract; they easily could have just kept on as a heavy recurring, but it is clear there is intent on keeping the role around, at least at this point in time. Could things change? Sure.

And that's fine. I, on the otherhand, do not.

Lane Davies exited the role of Mason on July 21, 1989, while Terry Lester (the superior recast) debuted on September 29, 1989. According to Soap Opera Digest, it was suggested that TPTB missed the deadline date to renew Lester's contract, and when they did, he used that as his reasoning for quitting. He last appeared on November 1, 1990. Plus, it was suggested (via the same article) that he was unhappy with his storyline at the time. What's even more interesting is that it was suggested (and not denied) that Davies would return to the role, which would have been the best possible option, especially at this point in time.

It's interesting they transitioned from Lester to Gordon Thompson (a downgrade) in two different ways, and one of them Jill Farren Phelps mistakenly thought was how they went from Davies to Lester.

Technically it was four CC Capwells within the first six months (plus, the unaired Lloyd Bochner); an uncredited actor was in the role following Charles Bateman's exit from December 13, 1985, to January 7, 1986.

Please, no. We're finally rid of him [again] in daytime. He doesn't need a third try at it.

Honestly Maurice comes across as a lovely person but his acting was worse than Martin’s. Ted reminded me of Leon Black from Curb your enthusiasm. Underdeveloped character, miscast actor. His delivery was hilarious.

Keith D. Robinson born January 17, 1976. Maurice Johnson born February 10, 1979. Only three years difference.

Now? Ted already looks like Jacob and Andre

That must be an older picture bc Keith most definitely looks the same age as the last actor

I can’t remember the last time a recast was announced and the overwhelming response was people asking why two other characters weren’t replaced first

I do wonder what other changes we’ll see at the 13 week mark. If Ashley and Derek are still hogging airtime come summer…

    • Some of those 1988-ish episodes are up. I'm not really sure she did much else. I think I recall something along the lines of she and Rusty had been suspended over the investigation of Nicky, George's supplier. I'm not sure she even gets some kind of goodbye. I think she just disappeared when Pam Long returned.
    • I did not care, just clarifying that was the discussion point. If there are ice cream bars in Statesville I am sure there is a full spa
    • Seeing Peter Bergman (Jack) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) act opposite each other really makes me mad that their short-lived reunion in 2012 was just that... short-lived. I've always loved the Jack/Nikki pairing.
    • No.  I recall there was also a mention about how distracting it was EOB's Gwen wasn't wearing nail polish as well.  That it was someone's pet peeve. And, yes, the fact characters can have a manicure in prison is the wildest continuity issue here.
    • Can anyone remember Mary Ellen Stuart's run as Jenny? I'm trying to fill in the cracks for missing stuff that we overlooked.  Bulletpoints:  * Dated Ross * Rusty's police partner * Directly responsible for Dinah coming forward about George Stewart (Cam's father)
    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton twirling his invisible moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
