BTG: First-ever role recast!

Daphnee and Trisha did a live stream on Instagram and they addressed the Ted recast! Trisha and Daphnee both said there was no issue with them when it came to working with Maurice. The cast received an email around the premiere date saying that the role had been recast. No reason was given for the recast and they had no say in it. 

At the Black Excellence premiere party Daphnee went up to him and they had a pleasant conversation but she didn't want to be nosey and ask unless he wanted to say something. She doesn't know if he was fired or if he chose to leave. She ended up texting him and asking if he wanted to join the live stream and explain what happened. He didn't end up joining but I liked that they didn't shy away from the question.

I wonder if we will ever know.

Maybe Maurice just didn't take to the taping schedule of a soap.

Or it could have been a personal/family thing.

And perhaps DD and TMG aren't going to dish any juicy stuff due to professionalism and plain good manners.

Mm-hmm; Duplaix said the cast received an email on a Sunday stating Johnson would no longer be with them, and when she saw him a few weeks later at the Black Excellence brunch, she said he hadn't been filming for a couple of weeks, and when she approached him, he seemed in positive spirits but did not push him to say what happened. She gave him a window to say something, and he chose not to. Both she and Mann-Grant tried inviting him into the live, but he did not pop in.

I hate that Ted was recast and it will be jarring for a new actor to pop up on the screen. In some ways, I wish they would have had Ted leave town after the revelation to clear his head, have an accident that disfigured him and he had to have surgery explaining the new actor.  Unless the Ted we were seeing was not the real Ted at all??

None of that sounds necessary; there's no need for a "surgery"; it's okay for a recast to take place and happen.

I would’ve much preferred Ted leave town before this recast takes over such a major story.

I'm not familiar with the replacement -never seen him onscreen, but just from the photos he gives off a very different vibe than Maurice. Physically quite different so it's going to be interesting as to how that plays onscreen.

If he doesn't have chemistry with DD then what's the point? DD and MJ had major chemistry and MJ had it with everyone

We'll soon find out next week, but from what she's posted on Instagram thus far, Daphnée is enamored with her new co-star. Of course, in a non-romantic way, to be clear.

I have my suspicions that long-term chemistry with DD may not be a factor here.

As someone previously said, TPTB's first choice for the role was Robinson, but he wasn't available at the time. When he became available, they made the switch.
