Musical Chairs was the first network game show to have a black host. Adam Wade had appeared on Search for Tomorrow in 1970 as a part of the Rec Center story that also featured Irene Cara. So perhaps he played a part in Mary Stuart appearing or it was just a coincidence.

Musical Chairs was shortlived June 16-October 31 1975. 4pm up against Somerset and The Moneymaze/You Don't Say. Replaced by the even shorter lived Give-n-Take.

I hate to be dismissive of a daytime GOAT, but Mary doesn't have as distinct a sound as you might expect. I guess she's kind of in the Helen Reddy vein.

No, I wasn't. My memories of SFT are few. If I ever did know, I'd forgotten. I probably shouldn't have been surprised, as plenty of broadway folk worked daytime too.

For many years, Mary sang on every Christmas episode of SFT. She had written several Christmas songs, and often sang one or two of her own compositions when the cast gathered at the hospital or at the Hartford House Inn on Christmas afternoon. Her Christmas melodies were really quite good, and I always hoped Mary would release a holiday album -- but apparently she did not. I'm not sure when Mary stopped singing on the Christmas episodes, but it was almost certainly sometime after SFT moved to NBC.

This is probably more for the Search thread but I do remember an opening credits shot from the last few years of her with a guitar.

Unless it was her choice,that was something that should have stayed a Christmas tradition.

As a teenager in the mid to late 1970s, I remember loving the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day episodes of the various soap operas. My favorites at Christmas were probably: Search for Tomorrow, As the World Turns, Days of Our Lives, All My Children, and (strangely) Edge of Night. Those five soaps always seemed determined to do Christmas right -- even if it was sometimes at the last minute -- as it often was on EON.

In the summer of 1985, Sarah Whiting was interested in becoming a singer. It was a bond she shared with her grandmother, Jo. I believe Jo pulled out the guitar and sang “Green Coffee,” which I believe was a staple of Mary Stuart’s.
