GH: Actor Leaving

"Longstanding cast members" doesn't really count for much at Frank's GH, where they often refuse to cut anyone. Willow and Sasha have been here for over six years - that's insane.

Chad worked hard for a long time, then stopped a long time ago. I have been wanting a rest for the character and recast for a long time, but I'll settle for a recast.

I am willing to bet everyone has.

I will tel you one thing. No child has ever been so annoyingly important on GH ever, from the jump. Not even Robin in her worst moments. From the second SJB’s Carly got pregnant Michael truly ate the show. So if they wanted to have him leave for a couple of months after what happened with Willow- go! And give us all a break from his face and name.

Yeah but even she, while well paid, wanted more of what Geary got. Which was time off. So even her contract is not as $ fat as it used to be. But I agree, I think even MO had to play with this round of paycuts.

They threw money at Tony for like 10 years trying to get him to cut down his contracted time off and he kept turning them down and adding vacation instead of dollars. Easy for him though, he was probably the highest paid male when he came back to about 2002-ish when MB probably got up to him or close, before surpassing.

I don’t even know if HALLMARK would have him- he’s not hot enough to be broody all the time and he isn’t a happy go lucky type, like Josh Swickard is smiling from ear to ear in his films. Chad is just gloomy, and not used to having to hustle.

The Valentini era feels like the first time where she is wanted for HER and not for Geary, except for that one-time ABC demoted her.

Well, we know she got her summers off, and good for her. She deserves them.

Oh, Swickard is completely Hallmark material... but part of me feels like he'd be more inclined to go to Jesus Network with Mathison over the more liberal-leaning Hallmark.

He was too old for the role and Nick and Sharon’s stalled development certainly didn’t help, but I also remember JFP trying to create multiple Noah centered stories and pairings and his average presence kept getting them hijacked by better actors (Noah/Tessa/Mariah) or pushed to the backburner. He was on a lot when they brought on Sofia Pernas but she ended up carrying most of the effort and when she bolted for primetime they dropped him like a hot potato.

It’d be such a waste to go from one mid grade actor to another

Say what you will about Duell/Michael.  I know I have lol.  I don't think it's ever a good sign to lose a 15 year vet especially right after Kelly's firing.  I have no idea if it's a paycut situation or CD just being bored.  It's just makes me think morale is low on the GH set.  And, you know, fire the 50 recurring characters you have before making everyone and their mother take cuts.

I'd imagine it is low. Even if they didn't seem like vets to us, Easton and Howarth had also been at the show for a decade, and they were fired. Kelly was fired. The backstage transition with Mulcahey in and out was a mess. And they've seen a number of co-stars pass away in the last few years. Add in that there's a good chance the show is in its end stages and some may feel they want to leave on their own terms while they can.

Agreed.

I get more sense of dread that GH is going to be cancelled than Days even though they shoot in a cardboard box.  It does feel like the end is closer than I want or think for GH.

I know people talk about Frank and how good he manages budgets, but it seems like they are always scrambling for more money and aren't making proper cuts elsewhere.  I have no love for KeMO or Duell, but I would be super upset if I was asked to take a pay cut/airtime cut after years of service too.

Recasting Jason's first born: I want MarkT to do the whole process from casting call to audition to screentest & get someone fantastic and also new. Definitely not Adamson.

JAX: I want Jax to die offscreen & Joss to become a gajillionaire & maybe grow up a little more from losing a parent who is pretty much lost to her already. But, I also think Adam Harrington could've played a recast Jax. Accent negotiable. (Did Mac have an accent?)

The State of the Show: I don't think GH is in danger. Despite the problems that accrue to Frank, I also don't think his job is in current danger. Things may change as of the third week in February because GH will be in the same block of time that The Duprees are headed for. BTG.

    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.
    • I just watched some parts of an episode of GL where Roger has just been shot by Holly. Rita then admits to Hillary that Roger raped her. Kasdorf is such a fantastic actress. I wish there were more of her work available.
    • -- Alex Alegria has almost a full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a large tatt on one pec. I see no indication that the show is covering up his ink,
    • Didn't Carrie2 even seduce a minor? Ick. Oh, yeah, and she even tried to seduce Alan, but this was his post-prison era when he was trying to prove to everyone he had changed. It's funny that of all people he didn't go for it. Wait. Josh had an affair with Vanessa? Or she just thought he did? I know people always say "it's just a soap" but the way mental illness is portrayed on soaps (and that goes for pretty much all of them) has always been not great, especially PPD. They practically turned Claire into The Joker. She also was trying to seduce men. (I notice that now Mary Ryan Munisteri is listed as co HW with Ryder in the 1986 episodes, Claire has calmed down a lot. Never thought her GL career was very good but seems like she tried to course correct that a bit).
    • sss Ms. Tunie is a goddess. I feel all the anger, pride, sadness, arrogance, dignity, fear, love, and other emotions in everything she does as Anita.
    • You're right. People like me who stuck with her, did so because of her history. The show just skated her along with no story,  no goal, no aim. Right again! This is who I forgot before. When you describe her, it makes me appreciate her more. Thinking back I loved Mandy.
    • Maybe Guza is becoming Y&R Head writer and Jilly will be named EP! Remember CBS installed Latham as consultant and later Mal Young, both of whom took over the show. Of course, they each got credit during the consulting days.
    • Don't forget Carrie, who as Carrie2 was screwing everything in pants, and PPD Reva, who to either get back at Josh for his supposed affair with Vanessa (or just to prove she's more desirable than Van) tries to screw half the male population.
    • Post-production isn't exactly akin to sweeping the floors, but it makes more sense given her CV.  And, it would invalidate any concerns that she has an undo influence on the creative process, as opposed to visual and sound design of the show.  In fact, given her interests, it makes sense that she would want to consult and see the impact of newer technology in a post-production facility.  I could only imagine how much has changed in sound technology since she worked on SB, and that might be intriguing to utilize. As well as their impending move (not as soon as B&B, but we all know it will happen) and helping set up post-production at the new facility.
    • The last five or so episodes of season 8 after the Jean Hackney story ended were pretty strong with the Laura/Val friendship breakdown, Ben's PTSD with Val trying to help him, and the start of Jill realizing that Val was as much of a threat to her happiness with Gary as Abby was. I always thought that the Jean Hackney story should have ended at mid season at the latest... and then deal with the fall-out because seeing Ben/Val switch roles with Ben in mental decline instead of Val would have been interesting to explore.  And seeing Val and Laura's friendship suffer also was interesting and should have been explored especially with Karen caught in the middle and Abby both intrigued and amused at the conflict that she didn't cause. However, season 8 was the only Latham run season where Val was well written.
