Totally agree. Marla Adams original run as Dina (1983-1986) she was serving up primetime soap diva fierceness.

If Marla wasn't cast as Dina, I could totally see her on a primetime soap when they were at their peak.

Heartbreaking. I am sorry that what may have been her best work (Belle on Secret Storm) is all gone, but her work as Dina Mergeron was fascinating. In many ways Dina was an unsympathetic character, but Marla always gave her layers, and stood tall against actors who were extremely talented and extremely charismatic.

I remember that clip that used to be on Youtube of Dina going to the Abbott home, getting into it with Mamie, and THEN getting into it with Jill. No catfights, all class, all shade, and all ice. A delirious viewing experience.

When I heard of Ashley's current story, I wished that they had kept Dina around to play a part in it, but now I see they made the right decision.

Even if I didn't follow most of her last story, I did see the end, which felt moving due to the work of those involved. Compared to how a number of soap legends were treated, Marla got to leave on a high.

Legend!

Classic vintage YR actress...

Her scenes with Terry Lester, Beth Maitland, Eileen Davidson and Jerry Douglas were golden.

May she RIP.

Oh yes. That group of actors as the Abbott family were the best.

I'd like to think that Marla, Jerry, and Terry are together upstairs right now, sharing memories of their Abbott family years, with Marguerite Ray and Jeanne Cooper joining them.

RIP another daytime legend and Y&R icon gone, right after Meg Bennett’s passing.

I so wish Y&R had brought back Dina wayyyy earlier than it did, and just not for weird stuff like Audrey North either.

That’s such a legendary set of scenes to myself…BD getting announced she’s back as Jill, we get a hint that Mamie is in love with John, Jill actually standing up for Mamie in a rare moment, and the best moment being Dina just cooling telling a day drinking Jill reminds her of a “mutual friend” they have in common to Jill’s sheer horror and disgust.

    • Since my mind is drawing a blank, have we hit the episodes that were filmed after the show officially premiered and started to get feedback, or we should be hitting those next month?
    • I think playing Greg Sumner gave his career a huge boost, but it also hindered him a bit because he became too known for that role.  Although he and Judith Light had good comic chemistry on Phenom, and he had a short lived cop show in the late 90s that he was decent in as well. I think the fact he kept working for twenty + years after Knots Landing ended is almost a miracle considering acting work can be hit or miss.
    • Now that I have ad-free Prime Video again, I may start going back into Knots Landing and giving it a third time... got to be a charm, right?
    • The final season of THE HANDMAID'S TALE
    • And characters just disappearing with NO explanation and no further mention. Even after they were involved in a seemingly significant storyline. And I'm talking about Chief Elon Hawthorne and Detective Marcel Malone. Where are they?
    • Probably Kmc as Robin on GH?  Not trying to deny Christie any love because she's amazing and beautiful and fantastic.
    • Yeah, not showing us Chelsea coming out to her grandparents was bad.  Hopefully things will get better in terms of structure and story telling.  We have to remember the show isn't even 6 months old yet.  There's still a lot to figure out.  They've made some changes to the writing staff, so maybe that will help?  I hope they figure out the editing issues and music issues as well.  We'll see.
    • I'm not sure he really got the roles he deserved after Knots either. He was excellent as Greg, and made you care about him even through some very tacky times. I still think back sometimes to his work when Mary Frances died or when Laura died.
    • this has been clear from the very beginning. and, boring as they are, it’s not just derek and ashley. fitting in so many characters and storylines means they are skipping over the emotional beats — chelsea’s coming out was far too fast, and why did they not show her telling her grandparents — so there’s A LOT of exposition.  given how long val jean and guza have written for soaps, this speeded up narrative and enormous cast have the suits’ fingerprints all over it.  whether it ultimately drives down ratings remains to be seen.
