Great posts Toups and Rick, and you too AMCfan. I don;t care if other like it or not but it seems all the people who were predicting bad ratings this week for Days are now going after people for liking the show and calling the ratings patheitc. Well they are not pathetic and what people say on the internet doesn;t matter. I have talked to many people enjoying the show. My nephew's college campus has people watching it everyday (which is why I will be happy when colleges count). SON is the most pro-days place right now but the boards I have been too that are negative about Days are yet again fanbases complaining yet again and that is nothing new. I guess people are realizing what I have been saying-the couples breaking up is not gonna bring ratings decline. Last year it did because the stories suck but the stories are good right now for the most part and clearly people are enjoying it. The ratings could be better sure but these are a hell of alot better then last year and face it-Days, Y&R, and B&B are the only three up from last year so Days' numbers are hardly pathetic.

I can;t wait until May and summer because Days is gonna explode and be must see even more then now :)

Last week it was NBC and ABC, this week it is CBS's turn. Unfortunately for ABC, they didn't rebound like NBC almost did.

GL's 2.1 isn't an all-time low; they received a 2.1 in May of 2004 during the height of the Eden/mob storyline.

Ponz and others, it's all a matter of who you talk to. The people I talk to who watch[ed] DAYS are watching less and less and complain about the ridiculousness of some things (i.e. the Alex/Marlena story, etc.).

DAYS' version of "traditional storytelling" is different than other soaps who are traditional. The story itself may sound traditional and true-to-life, but it's packaged differently. The day-to-day episodes are repetitive, the flashbacks are too frequent, the music is hokey, you see ridiculous things like a war veteran amputee going to save a girl in a sewer, there's lame cheesy stuff about glowing fish that symbolize new love, etc. As a whole, DAYS' version of traditional storytelling is a different product than what, say, The Young & the Restless produces. I think this is why no matter what is says on paper (oh dear, I just flash backed to Kellie Pickler!), DAYS won't ever be looked at as a "traditional" soap opera.

Lost in the shuffle of all the James Reilly/"Days" discussion (as usual) is an interesting ABC development...

"One Life to Live" seems poised to hand over its dubious title of ABC's lowest rated soap to "All My Children".

Last week, OLTL beat or tied AMC for four of the five days; AMC only triumphed on Wednesday.

Well I for one would not want it to be like all the other shows. I love for shows to keep some of their unique qualities. That has been my biggest complaint about All My Children is that it used to set itsself apart from other shows, but now tells stories in the same manner as everyone else and follows suit with the other ABC shows with the big events and all. I loved AMC when it was different and was unique.

Days and ATWT are my absolute 2 favorite shows and both are alot alike in storytelling now but are totally different too. ATWT also has a much stronger male cast than Days does. They both approach their stories in different ways, and ATWT's daily writing is much better. Days always comes close to them on Thursdays. Sofia Landon Geier is a great script writer and does a wonderful job each Thursday.

I like that both are unique in their own ways, and have different ways to tell their traditional stories.

I want Days to be different but not different as it used to be with all the sci-fi stuff. I love that little element of camp that they have every once in awhile now. I hope it never loses that.

Good point, but actually, OLTL beat AMC for a good majority of last year (2005), so it's not like it never happens..

I wouldn't say either of the shows has much to crow about at the moment, though. There was a really good week last month, but it's been rather dismal overall. GH, on the other hand, has been riding high.

It's not like OLTL hasn't beat AMC before in HH Ratings (as has GL for a time), and man for a year or so back in the early 2000s OLTL use to always place above AMC in 18-49.

shane, beat me to that punch.

I think GH has the best chance at catching B&B at least for a week, but with Lesli Kay shaving her head and having a big SL I think B&B will hang onto 2nd place for now.

As for the ratings.....

I am a HUGE DAYS fan, but wasnt DAYS getting their worst ratings almost ever last year at this time, that's a huge reason why DAYS has gained more viewers since last year. I still think the numbers are pretty bad, but I guess all of daytime is.

I honestly think JER is good enough to stay at the helm at DAYS, but DAYS needs new daily/breakdown writers more than anything. The day to day writing just sucks. If DAYS had a writing team like ATWT or Y&R I guarantee DAYS would be neck and neck with B&B/GH.

It is good to see DAYS gaining back most of what they lost last week, hopefully with the great spoilers I just read DAYS is going to start rocking like it was Jan-mid March.

AMC will get an increase you'd think with Tad and Dixie's upcoming reunion..... the Dixie story is heating up so hopefully that will spike the ratings for a few weeks. At least bring em up a couple points into the 2.7-2.8 range.

Irish, I have always respected your posts, but I disagree with you on this. There are so many other things going on in an episode IMO there is no way to tell why the fans tune out or not, unless its a major SL and can tell each time its featured heavily the ratings dwindle.

    • My god the smirking was back in full force today. He almost started smiling after Johnny mentioned he wouldn’t be there if EJ hadn’t raped Sami. I will say I did like seeing him with Dee as they’ve always had great chemistry.    They really are giving a lot of false hope with John getting better. I wish they hadn’t done that. Monday is going to be devastating. I really liked all the characters mixing and mingling today.  Nu-Rachel is still too sweet for me. Loved all the flashbacks. Everyone looked so young. Really enjoyed Brady’s scenes with John today.
    • Valerie Mahaffey Dead: ‘Northern Exposure,’ ‘Dead to Me’ Actress Was 71 Loved her. I've never seen her Doctors work.
    • Valerie Mahaffey Dead: ‘Northern Exposure,’ ‘Dead to Me’ Actress Was 71 I just loved Valerie on my early '90s TV shows. This one gets me.
    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!
