It's hard for me to picture Loni with the rest of this cast just because I don't automatically think of her when I think of "ladies of the '80's."  "WKRP in Cincinnati" was her claim to fame; and that, IMO, was more of a '70's show than an '80's one.

Poor Linda Gray looks frail in that sidelong shot of the women. But my mother is also that thin these days near that age and she's doing okay, so who knows.

Oh God. The Loni/Denise Richards double act story. That was a nadir moment for the show (and actually in the back half of Season 4 IIRC, which wasn't quite the dying days but it was a rough patch and got rougher down the road).

Loni never found another part as good as Jennifer. She was in so many TV-movies and failed shows or dying shows (the one that interests me most is her show with Lynda Carter - not enough to actually watch it, admittedly). By the '80s she seemed to be more known for her marriage.

Sometimes I forget Linda is 83 now. I don't know how these ladies do it.

You're right that Melrose went on for a number of years after that. I think that's when I stopped watching.

Just looking at the picture ... Morgan Fairchild played the lead Racine, in Paper Dolls, and Nicolette Sheridan was introduced in that show.

And, another thing, this year during PRIDE I learned that Linda Gray was the first person to play a transgender character in a Norman Lear primetime soap that I would kill to get to see, All That Glitters & I believe it was as early as 1977.

    • “On ERICA versus RACHEL, Erica was a very unique character. ... Rachel was a lower-class Erica, her mother was a cleaning woman, and her goals were not nearly stratospheric as Erica’s. Rachel just wanted to marry Russ or somebody with money. What Erica and Rachel have in common is they thought if they could get their dream, they’d be satisfied. But that dream has been very elusive.”– Agnes Nixon, Creator, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, ALL MY CHILDREN, and LOVING So my takeaway from this, plus knowing the characters, is that both Rachel & Erica schemed for acquisition. They wanted to acquire romance, husbands, prosperity, a kind of low-level fame or notoriety.  Am I correct in thinking that Carla schemed for safety, camouflage, to keep from getting caught & so for survival? Or did she also scheme for things similar to above?

    • Not me, I am having withdrawals, I need that soapy drama lol
    • I faintly remember the tv movie where Ted Danson played the lead.. my late mom liked the movie and she also read a few of the novels and enjoyed them.

    • Paula and Jeanne’s first time writing Alex and Stephanie. It didn’t seem like there were any changes in Alex at all lol but I can’t help  but think that that’s more on RSW than the writing. I didn’t see a big change with Stephanie either, but I did enjoy her scenes with Kayla, whose character has gotten so much stronger since last week. I hope we get to see a lot more of their relationship, and their relationship with Steve as well. As for Steve and Shawn stealing the drug to try to save Bo, idk. I don’t dislike it, but I just don’t know lol but I also think that it is time for Steve to pass the torch on to the next hero.  And finally, Javi showed some kind of spark! I was a little worried in his first scene today that he was going to continue to be so obsessed with Leo, but him demanding that Leo drop the investigation into Rafe and Gabi could actually be pretty interesting. I don’t think that would’ve happened under Ron. And if we’re forced to endure Javi/Leo, let them at least have some kind of actual conflict, instead of the forced, biased crap that we were subjected to. And speaking of Leo, one year ago today, he got Dimitri’s letter

Btw, why is Gabi so beholden to Javi? Cousin or not, if I was her, the minute he said to her, “If he goes, I go”, I would’ve been like  Also, are they going to go there with Philip and Gabi? I’d prefer that than Gabi getting involved with Alex.
    • She does look good in blue. I wish they'd do more with her hair, change it up the way JMW does now and then
    • Hahaha - this is hilarious (and a ton of wigs at use!). The closing shot!!! LOL
    • Yes. I don't know if Lenore was ever asked. Then it became a nun. Thanks. I didn't realize it was in 1987. That timeline doesn't make a lot of sense even if she would have had Ed to interact with. If they didn't ask her back in 1989 and she was willing, what a stupid error. The attempts at these feuds, or even the whole families tied together stuff like Maryanne Carruthers, never had any real impact because of how depleted the Bauers felt even by the mid '80s. And instead of expanding them, which would have been common sense, various producers were just too lazy, or too ashamed, and kept bringing on other families, or bringing in too many people at one time and not knowing how to write for them (the Spauldings in the McTavish era - as SOD said at the time, everyone in the family had the same personality).
    • Wasn't there talk of them bringing back Rita as Gus' mother at one point? Or something?
