General Hospital: December 2022 Discussion Thread

I try to watch now and then but everything seems disjointed. They have some great soapy stories going on but they're broken up so much that I forget about most of them lingering in the background.

The hook.

Victor's downfall.

Willow's mom.

Trina's dad.

Esme with Nickolas and Elizabeth pulled in.

The hook serial killer is a story that should be generating lots of buzz. It has been going on for how long? There have been no real stakes...until now with Rory. Yes, people have been attacked...but then the story disappears without movement for a week or two. Say what you will about DAYS, but when the show does a crazy story, they do it. I know the Hook is part of Trina's story, but it should have been more. GH has so many characters that could be taken down by the Hook. Do it up. What does the show have to lose at this point? If it wants to stay on network, it needs some buzz.

This show is set in a hospital???

Lol thanks, that seems a lot swirling around all at once. And fits in with modern soaps idea that "everyone must be blood related".

However with all my complaints about GH it's the only soap left that feels like a soap opera. Days is a meth addicts fever dream and B&B and Y&R are just terminally boring.

Awww Rory

I know a lot of y'all didn't like him, but he didn't bother me at all. I was really hoping for a Spencer/Trina/Rory triangle, with Spencer being the winner of course

I hope we find out the backstage tea about how this came about. Something tells me that this wasn't in the original plan when Rory made his debut.

Rory was such a pretty corpse.  The Hooker must be short, because none of the victims ever have any facial scarring.

Also, are Nikolas and Ava the only couple to ever negotiate a divorce settlement in Port Charles since Alan and Lucy (I think Scotty handled that one as well)?  Carly seems to have been divorced many times without ever consulting an attorney.

I'm still betting Nikolas dies before the papers are signed.  Especially with Spencer talking about "splitting town" (I guess none of the GH writers know how Gen Z'ers speak?  Next week Cam is going to "groove on down" to Kelly's Diner), and Trina reminding us that Spencer's original motive was wanting to cause trouble for Ava.  It seems like a set up for the next obstacle in the Trina/Spencer relationship.

Well...as I see it...we have three events coming up...all perfect for climaxing some of these stories.

1) Sonny/Valentin shipment

2) Portia/Curtis on Jan 15...a month from now and just perfectly time with Spencer's release I see.

3)Anna/Valentin/Scorpio/Laura vs Victor

I expect one of those to climax in February, but I do see the events being lined up between now and then and hope they build as good as the Maxie/Peter wedding with the Alex reveal did.

That said...let me just go ahead and SWOON for these Sprina scenes. Spencer came in hot and darn it if I was not feeling their chemistry at the restaurant. And I've said it in the spoiler thread...I'm really and truly am loving the heck out of AC's hair. I could just hmmmmmmmmmmm. lol. I can even ignore the clear point in the conversation where editing had his old hairstyle pop in for a second. It came back.

I too have felt the disjointedness of the writing as of late, but this was a pretty good week. Spencer got out of jail. Nik/Liz dealing with Victor and Finn (I still don't see any romance coming there @carolineg, but I do worry she will be thrown under the bus for Nik or just be a supporting character like she was with Finn). Anna/Valentin reunion with Martin makes three...and a fun adventure as they work to bring Victor down. The Esme mother reveal...which I admit to be conflicted about...but that's because I'm wondering if it checks out with what we have established about Esme so far.

I hope that was not the last we saw of Jeff Webber. If so...ugh.

It was nice to see the vets through the week however.

Agreed. I've liked Tabyana since the beginning but today was not good.  I wonder what happened.  Not getting proper directing?  I'll give her a pass for today's episode and hope she'll be better next time she gets some big dramatic scenes.

Alley Mills and Jon Lindstrom are fantastic together!  Heather and Ryan can be PC's version of The Joker and Harley Quinn.  LOL

I’m really impressed by Alley Mills.  Considering how fast they shoot now, it’s fun to see layers coming through her performance.

I have not really enjoyed zany Heather antics since the character was reintroduced in the 2000’s.  I preferred Mattson’s earlier characterizations, more of a schemer than insane, certainly capable of awful things.  Mills gives her a menacing edge which is pretty fun the watch.  It feels like more of a bridge between the wounded, needy person she started out as and the outright maniac she has been more recently.

It should come to a head in February if they are going to have to write out Valentin because JPS is filming Villains for the Disney Channel again. It was in February last year when Valentin disappeared for two months with no explanation till over a month later when Anna told Drew that Valentin was at a clinic because he got an infection from his gun shot wound, which eventually ended up being a half truth. Valentin was at the clinic but for only a week before he was off doing Victor's bidding off screen.

— Does Rory have ANY family? Or do we keep pretending Trina was the only person he knew and was close to?

— Too many paternity questions in storylines.

— Too many characters constantly rewritten with fuller and different backstories.

— Garbage stories like the Austin and Maxie compatibility story.

— —Ridiculous stories like Liz carrying Nic’s baby.

    • Honestly who's to say Leslie even birthed Eva, I mean she's a liar, I wouldn't believe a word she says about Eva being Ted's(or hers)
    •   1. 11/1/83 cast/set list:

Please register in order to view this content

The "11/2/83" video you posted of Ruth Buzzi's scenes includes Roman and Hope in them, meaning the video you posted is actually 11/1/83, since Roman and Hope aren't in 11/2/83.   2. The video you posted of "11/2/83" has scenes with Roman and Hope. As you can see from my cast/set list, Roman and Hope are not in the 11/2/83 episode (see above note):   4573...11/2/83: Cast: Mickey, Julie, Doug, Maggie, Neil, Don, Marie, Alex, Liz, Andre as Tony, Gwen, Chris, Eugene, Sandy, Letitia, Charlene, Mrs. Whiting, Wanda/Guard, Dave, Delia, Saleslady # 1, Saleslady # 2, Figure in Dark, Raven/animal, Cats/animals, Birds/animals.   2.  11/3/83 :My video collection starts with 11/4/83. so I don't have the 11/1/83 or 11/3/83 video, but in addition to the cast/set list for 11/3/83, here is also the parking clearance call sheet for that day, showing Ruth was not only in the cast/set list but did work that day:     They even had hired the animal trainer and all the animals for the day, so It's sort of a certainty that her scenes were not cut that day, or it would have been a big waste of the budget. 3. As for 11/7/83, I just fast-forwarded through that whole episode myself. Letitia is in it from start to finish. It's her big final episode where she is killed. She starts the episode saying "Eugene, are you there?" In the next act, Marlena shows up and meets Letitia's lion. Later in the episode, Letitia is killed by "Eugene" (the Salem Slasher in a Eugene mask).   So, as we can see from your own post, the 11/2/83 date you have listed on that video is incorrect, since Hope and Roman are in that video but not in the 11/2/83 episode. It seems the dates you have on all your early November 1983 episodes are incorrect.   When you post videos and suggest that my data is incorrect, do you not first compare who is in the scenes and see if that matches who is in the episode? You didn't do that with the "11/2/83" episode, which based on Roman and Hope being in it means that is actually 11/1/83. Best to do something like that first before suggesting my data and research is incorrect.
    • Within the Dupree family, I predict Vernon/Anita will be conflicted about what to do about Bill and his role in the whole Ted/Silk Press Sheila situation... especially since Bill knows where the particular bone about Martin is buried. Dani, Chelsea, and Naomi's reactions to what Bill possibly did isn't hard to guess.. but Hayley's reactions will be interesting to hear.  Especially given her recent pregnancy scare.. she might not be so much on Bill's side, or she'll totally surprise us and be totally on Bill's side.   Either way, I think Martin's secret will be the main focus in May sweeps.. with the fall out of the Eva secret playing out in the background... while the Joey/Vanessa/Doug thing continues to boil/develop.
    • Hotel was The Love Boat on land but a little soapier. I will forever maintain that Hotel was a time slot hit. I don't believe that 1983/84 Hotel was a better show than Knots Landing.

    • The timing is strange, though. How far in advance would they normally be on location? The Achille Lauro hijacking was on October 7, 1985. Nancy had arrived in Egypt in the storyline by October 18. But the character of Hawk, Chris' Native American friend from Arizona, had already appeared onscreen by September and brought a letter telling Chris to be in Egypt by October 25th.  Why did they already have the link to Arizona before the reason to cancel the shoot in Egypt?  The dust and the jar it came in were from Egypt though. Nancy bought it there and sent it to Mac as a gift before she came back to the states and followed Chris to Arizona.
    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.
