Please read this message from Kathryn Hays daughter, Sherri Hays Mancusi to all of you.

People often ask me what it was like to grow up with "a famous actress for a mother". My usual reply was that I didn't grow up with a famous actress for a mother. I grew up with my mom for a mother. When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time hanging out on soundstages, backstages and in control rooms while she worked. We always had my grandparents nearby in case she had to travel for work. But when she came off the set or walked in the door, she was Mom and acting was the job she left behind. She loved me unconditionally, she was my biggest fan, but she set boundaries and she got on my case if my grades went down. As good moms do. That's why I cherish this picture - it was taken by my mother's oldest friend on the front lawn of her house. No one was wearing makeup, that's just how my mother looked and dressed around the house. And if we look like good friends in that picture, it's because we were. And although she never called me "Toots" or "Kiddo" or "Pal", she put a lot of herself into the character of Kim. So I understand why you all loved her and why she had a big effect on people over the years. Because I loved her, too and did my best to be like her. So thank you for sharing your memories of her , because we will miss her, too.

i was privileged (and lucky) to meet her twice — at the paley center event in 2010, and in 1996, when i was on the set covering the 40th anniversary episode.

we finished the interview. but a bit later, she tracked me down to make sure she had told me about the huge crush she had on don mclaughlin when she join the show, as indeed she had.

I thought this video I watched today was a good tribute to Kathryn Hays as Kim. I'll probably get around to watching the '97 special episode starring Gillian Spencer at some point. I wish there was a good quality version of that famous scene with JWS where she finds his shrine to her.

Elsewhere some of us were fondly recalling some of her signature phrases, like "kiddo," "Toots!," and to John Dixon repeatedly in one episode, "Pal, do you remember me?" Then someone thought of a talk show appearance when she warned Maura that she'd better not hurt Scott. Mama Bear! They were engaged at the time.

    • I feel bad for judging a child, but, to be fair, she's over 40 now. My daughter was into Halloweentown when it reran on the Disney Channel in the 2010s. I wasn't impressed then, either.
    • Isn't that funny how certain memories as young children stick with you through life... Haha I totally get what you mean. That's how I felt with GL in the beginning, but then I got used to it. Seeing so many of my favorite AMC characters on GL was wild - Walker, Irizarry, Dusay, Budig, Aleksander, Gil Rogers, etc.  Ironically, it helps that Irizarry and Dusay played both mother/son in both shows. I know Marcy Walker was wasted on GL as Tangie, but selfishly I'm so glad she was. When she left GL and returned immediately to AMC as Liza Colby, man was it such a great storyline. The Tad/Dixie/Liza triangle was so emotional, tense and memorable. The AMC fans got lucky with that one. WRCW, Tad/Liza working together, the affair, then Jason Sheffield and the shooting on-set... all amazing stuff.   LOL!
    • I remember thinking that he was fantastic after Reva's 1990 "death," with his grief and attempted relationship with Harley. I also remember the cute Marah, not the toothy chick from Halloweentown.
    • Totally agree - we have much to learn about Vernon, and I'd love to see it.
    • I've enjoyed Vernon but I wouldn't be opposed to learning more about his life beyond his political work. What kind of family does he come from? Does he have any siblings? I feel like that could be an interesting thing to look at.
    • GH:       A- DAYS:   A- BTG:     B- B&B:     F Y&R:     F
    • I've always said, Robert Newman does not get enough credit for the popularity of Josh/Reva. Had he stayed in '91, and had years to build other relationships before Kim returned, I'm not sure we'd have been stuck with "always".
    • Bizarrely, while I didn't see it, I distinctly remember my younger sister telling me. We were walking to the store, and at the top of the hill she let out "Roger raped Holly", and I swear I remember it echoing for what seemed like forever. She would've been five at the time.  I know,,,which I find extraordinary. I have toyed with the idea of watching Another World for Maeve, Kathleen Widdoes and Beverlee. But watching Vanessa call Emma Snyder "momma" kinda weirded me out. LOL. I believe that's what I read in the recaps from the time as well. I meant, I couldn't quite believe that the audience wouldn't understand that a woman preparing to go to her engagement party  was raped. I know that on ATWT John raped Kim while they were married, resulting in Andy, but I think they shied away from calling that marital rape.
    • I have my fingers crossed for a baby to be named Monica Michelle & called Monica. And, yes, I do realize that is not equal to having her onscreen but, like you said & of course a recast is unthinkable.
    • I would love to have Monica on screen. Leslie Charleson has died. She played the role for 46 years. Monica should pass as well. No one is going to accept a long-term recast for Monica, no matter how great  the actress they could get.
