I agree that if the recaps provided in this thread are accurate, that's the conclusion to draw here - and probably the one that makes the most sense from a dramatic point of view.
That said, I hope Chelsea is the one - so that she can finally be written out.

I have no confidence I have any interest in any of this and that it will be written in an even remotely compelling manner BUT I have to disagree with everyone about the randomness of it.
I actually like when soaps create events that intersect apparently unrelated character bubbles and make people that have no reason to interact, interact.

Ashland framing Victoria for killing Rey could potentially have a lot of dramatic angles, but it feels rushed and sloppy. The Sharon/Rey/Chelsea triangle was likely a dead end, but you’d think they would have developed it more before *killing* the guy.

oh, I'm almost 100% sure it will be revealed to have been Sally many months from now, but in the meantime we will be lead to believe it was Vic while they play sketchy music over Ashland. A mess.

to sh*t on the guy's character and make it "ok" in the hearts of fans they will probably reveal Rey was cheating with either Chelsea or someone else (Sally?). That's how Y&R do, these days.

Wed April 20 Canadian (Thurs April 21 USA).

omg I'm crying and I cannot type.

Here are just *some* of the things that happen...

Chance is at Crimson Lights bonding with Connor as they wait for Rey to return with the tickets.  They all realize Rey must be delayed for some good reason, probably police work. (They don't yet know Rey died) But you can see that Sharon dreads something.  Chelsea says it's getting too late to go to the game and she takes Connor home.

At Crimson Lights, Chance receives a phonecall from the station about an accident, but he doesn't tell Sharon what it's about, and he leaves, saying he has police stuff to do.

Chance and Nick are at the accident scene and have confirmed that Rey has died. Chance told Nick to tell Sharon.

Other stuff happens.  Mainly VIctoria not caring about anyone or anything except for Rey.  Ashland starts saying he loves her but Victoria starts talking about Rey again.  She doesn't entirely believe Ashland, she wonders why he left Rey there.  Ashland said he wasn't breathing so he left. Victoria says someone should perform CPR.  Ashland says it was too late. She insists on standing up to go outside to find Rey's car and help him.  She tries to stand but her leg won't cooperate. Even when Victor and Nikki find her in the cabin, all she wants to talk about is Rey.  Victor and Nikki want to know why the f*ck is Ashland there.  Victoria hurriedly explains that he saved her (no details, just the minimum so her parents stop focusing on Ashland) and then she immediately goes back to talking about Rey.
She's very worried about Rey, and wants to know if the EMTs came.   Victoria is mainly worried that Rey is hurt. She's also concerned that she may have caused this.  Her parents tell her that it's confirmed that Rey is dead.

I'm telling this out of order but I'm too emotional to be coherent.

The most important scene...

Nick arrives at Crimson Lights.  Sharon sees his face and she just knows what he's going to say. She turns her head away and rambles on about Rey's favorite foods.  Finally she turns and looks at Nick and tells him she just knows.  He gently tells her.  He holds her (platonically of course, like a best friend or a brother).

I cannot describe the scene.  Amazing Sharon Case.  I'm crying too hard. Just watch.

LOL that reminds me of how several years ago it was revealed Austin had been cheating on Summer with Abby for weeks/months but it was only revealed after Austin died even though before Austin was murdered there had been zero evidence onscreen that Austin & Abby were having any type of affair.

That reveal (of Summer's husband Austin having had an extended offscreen affair with Abby) happened *during* Austin's funeral. March 5, 2015.
Yeah it was out of nowhere.
However, it was the best scene Hunter King ever did: After everyone left the funeral, and she was alone with his coffin and ranted with rage at Austin for his betrayal.  Her rage was fire.  She *can* act.  Just most of the time they gave her bland stuff to do.

Y&R: Lily and Devon are discussing the merger of Chancellor Industries and Hamilton/Winters.  Lily assumes they will both be present at press conferences and other public events. Devon is taken aback and tells her he is not very comfortable in the spotlight. But Lily insists that she and Devon be seen as a team.

Queen Drucilla's children discussing a major corporate merger... in a hotel lobby. (sigh).

Fyi, in the write-up, Bryton says that Devon still feels like a "kid from the streets" who is uncomfortable in the public eye, in contrast to high-fashion Lily. Or something like that.
My thoughts? What? I don't see that?  Devon has been a billionaire since 2013, has his own private jet, is a record producer, and has hosted events to honor Neil.  He seems comfortable with himself and comfortable with elegance.

Also, why does the merger publicity have an article about it? It's probably a 2-minute scene.

I don't know what's happening here; but they are probably talking about Rey.

---------------------------------------

Y&R: Rey update:

Last week, Rey's mother Celeste had requested that Rey be buried in Miami; but Sharon had not yet decided.

In the Monday April 25 (Fri. April 22 Canadian) episode, Sharon decides that this is what Rey would have wanted.
There are some nice moments with Mariah, Tessa, and Noah (just the three of them) sharing fond memories of Rey and how good he was with Sharon.

Next: Sharon plans to go to the morgue to say good-bye to Rey - but I don't know if Y&R show that, or if it will be offscreen.  (Sigh).

_______________

Spoiler for Thurs. April 28: "Chance makes a shocking discovery."  (Would this is about the car accidents, or Chelsea/Connor, or something else?)

Y&R: Jack tells Nikki, and then Kyle, that Diane is alive

Last week, citing a "family matter", Jack had asked Kyle to return to Genoa City ASAP. Kyle had agreed and now wonders what he will be walking into.

Monday April 25 US episode (Friday April 24 Canada)

Jack and Phyllis are in the Grand Phoenix lobby and notice Diane coming out of the elevator, trying to escape. Phyllis pushes Diane back into the elevator and escorts her back to her room.

Meanwhile Nikki had arrived in the Grand Phoenix lobby. She noticed that Phyllis was pushing someone into the elevator - but didn't see who it was before the elevator doors shut. Nikki asks Jack about this; and Jack tells her that Diane is alive. Jack says Deacon helped Diane fake her death. Nikki says Deacon is a "sonofab!tch". Then Nikki demands that Jack take Nikki to Diane's room, so he does.  The episode ends with Nikki entering Diane's room.

Kyle rushes home (with Harrison). Jack had promised to be waiting at the house for them; but when they arrive at the Abbott mansion, Jack is not there. Kyle is puzzled.
(The viewers know Jack is delayed with Nikki/Diane/Phyllis.)

Remainder of week of April 25:

(The Tues. 26 April US episode will be the Nikki/Diane confrontation).

At the Abbott mansion, after Harrison is sent to the kitchen for cookies, Jack and Phyllis arrive.

Phyllis gives Kyle and Jack space to talk alone. Jack tries to ease into the conversation, but Kyle asks that he just say whatever it is.

Jack had previously told Kyle in a videochat that Keemo had died.  Now Jack tells Kyle about Keemo and Allie. Kyle is stunned to learn that he has a niece named Allie. Kyle is very excited but then says, you could've told me that over the phone.

Then Jack talks about all these anonymous text messages from Los Angeles and the research into that. Kyle is confused and wonders what that has to do with him.

Jack finally reveals that Diane is alive.

Mealor says that Kyle feels devastated. Kyle has done so much work on himself to deal with the loss of his mother, so he has to decide if he even wants to see her. He has a good life and family now, so why would he want to add Diane's chaos to that?

See, here is the thing. You are right that it hasn't been a thing since 2013. But it would be interesting enough to add as a layer to a character that needs more depth that I could take the slight retconing if they made it a thing and weaved the subtext of his memory of where he comes from impacts how he lives his wealth now.
HOWEVER this is just a throwaway line by a lazy writers so it sucks.
Again what infuriates me about Y&R is not so much how lame what they present is, it is how much they leave on the table right there that would easily make it more interesting.
