On the plus side, it does sound like they are going to acknowledge everything that happened with Maura in the role as cannon. And while I am still rolling my eyes at how they are going to explain her being alive, even with Adam's help, I hope they do continue that alliance/friendship.
Of course you know JG will let the fact Adam knew Diane was alive and let Nikki take the fall be resolved with one angry scene and then done but hey on paper I don't mind it.

On the downside, both that promo and SW's comments about what happened when she was gone really make me worry that we are not dealing with writing with a clear understanding of who Diane is supposed to be.
She is an antagonist, not a villain.

Another possibility is that Kyle was aware Diane was alive, but kept it secret knowing how many people really wanted her dead. It would be a far better twist and certainly cause a ton of friction with Jack and Summer.

I like this idea.  But I don't think the show would be smart enough to think of doing that.

That's not what's happening. In 2011 Diane was gonna fake her death with Adam. But she ended up actually dying. ( or so we thought.)

Oh I thought/was hoping that she was suggesting that it was a scheme with two layers (we are going to fake your death PSYCH you are really dead PSYCH it was actually the plan all along to fake the death on top of the thwarted fake death).

I stand corrected. I should really wait to see how it plays out on screen I guess.

I would assume her plan back then will come into play in some way. No one appears to have been keeping Diane locked away, at least not for awhile.

I would say the "ultimate bad girl" was Lorie Brooks.  I mean, any woman who'd wear a dress split up to her cootchie is clearly no angel.

A nicely done promo and they picked good clips. It's interesting to see how Susan Walters embraced going grey - when AD left there was talk about ageism, so it's refreshing to see her looking fantastic, but also her age.

Absolutely correct. When AD played Diane the character got mercilessly screwed over by Victor and Nikki, and then used by Jack and Brad, and then humiliated with her pregnancy. You could understand why she used the power she had to strike back.

When SW took over the role she moved into the Jack & Phyllis triangle but again the way Phyllis treated her you could understand that they were an even match: neither one was good or evil.

Hopefully the writers find shades of grey for her.

Y&R are showing restraint in dressing Diane - not one shot yet of her in a one shoulder outfit... but the time will come.

I hope this story doesn't degenerate into a Phyllis v Diane shriekfest.

One of Y&R's saddest scenes. Jess and Jeanne knocked that scene out of the park. That they undid Philip's death was just appalling.

There definitely were loud rumblings about Ed Scott and Kay Alden being in a feud about the character and one of them won (I suspect Ed Scott) and Donnelley was fired. After that, Diane stayed well out of the Newman universe and was attached to Jack & Phyllis. I'd never heard anything negative about AD (and she was invited to one of Jeanne Cooper's last birthdays which was hosted by Lee Phillip Bell) and although AD will always be my Diane, Susan Walters did a good job, and I welcome the character's return.

I haven't watched in a while but I'll tune in to see her.

Thank you.

Now that you said that, I vaguely remembered that.

MTS has always come across as a not so sweet person to me, I’m shocked anyone thinks she was nice at all!

I will always prefer AD, because she had that chilly vibe that always just suited Bell’s Y&R, and also an edge.  When her Diane was upset or mad, it could be visceral.

THIS. So fascinating to watch.
