The luxury of the two year renewal is that they have the time now to make the effort and tell a longer story. But frankly, when they didn't have the luxury of time, they wasted a lot of it.

Seriously, though, I don't mind at all that BH, SSH, and the two DHs are getting headliner story. I am mostly reconciled with the fact that Days is on a beyond-strict budget.

I'm sure this won't be touched upon this time around, but one of the fascinating things about the original possession SL was just how enthralled JER was with the character of Marlena. Deidre Hall was his muse. Marlena is literally the show's most enduring and transcendent heroine, imbued with a deep personal strength. JER flipped that on its head and had her soul taken over by the devil -- expressing a woman's battle with her inner demons! It was also a testament to how popular Deidre/Marlena was, is and has always been. I had the feeling that JER never worried that the character of Marlena would be somehow ruined by the SL.

Also interesting was the major underlying theme in the SL about men's fears about women and their sexual power. (This not only related to Marlena but also Kristen). Anyhoo, I'll get off my Women's Studies 101 soapbox now.

I assume Johnny's movie will kick start it, which makes sense. They'll have two of DAYS's most iconic couples involved (Julie / Doug, Marlena / John) to satisfy that part of the audience and then have the youth crew (Johnny, Allie, Chanel, Tripp etc) actively involved I assume to appeal to that demographic.

I agree. It was a good way to piggyback on the media they got for Beyond Salem (which I loved!)

They milked it until no milk came out anymore. Of course huge ratings was the reason for it!

wow, NBC must have really increased the budget for the mothership show? I'm genuinely excited! I'mma def. e watching regularly, again.

ugh.  I have been mostly enjoying the show and am not looking forward to a new possession story.  But I will wait and watch before passing judgment.
