I had to resize your ridiculous post.  You need to win to get hype and Sunisa is going to get that at the next Olympics if she makes it - will you complain about that too in 3 years?

Sunisa Lee on uneven parallel bars, balance beam, and floor excercise.  This youtube doesn't show her on vault; but it has all the rest of her performances for the *team* final.

Looking forward to watching her in the *individual* all-around.

^ This is a Q&A video, just keep watching to see more still screens with more questions and answers.
She explains it really well.

Someone asked Simone why didn't they put an alternate into the team competition when she dropped out? She said it wasn't allowed per the rules. And she said the alternates had already been sent home.  Something about had to be done earlier in Olympics, qualifying rounds, etc, which I didn't follow, but she gave enough info for me to look it up.  And I found it here:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/simone-biles-gymnastics-replacement-drop-out/

"An injured or sick gymnast can be replaced no less than 24 hours before the start of the qualifications. That is when an alternate can be brought in, according to the international federation's rule book.

However, a gymnast who needs to be replaced after qualification – for final events – can only be replaced with another qualifying gymnast. Therefore, none of the alternates can replace Biles, because they did not participate in the qualifying events. Only her current teammates who qualified can replace her."

The true named alternates were sent home, but the two individually named athletes (Jade Carey, Mykayla Skinner) were still in Tokyo.  It seems an athlete could be replaced after QF if there was a positive covid test or something happened by an individual athlete, not alternate, but since Simone started the competition and pulled out after the first event no one could replace her.  I am not disparaging Simone for that, just trying to clarify because I am a pretty big gymnastics fan.

Anyhow, that's how Jade replaced Simone in the AA (she was the 3rd US qualifier) and Mykayla will replace Simone in the vault finals if Simone withdraws.  If Simone withdraws from bars, beam, and floor event finals the next athlete in line will replace because no one in the US is eligible.

USA Men's Basketball gets Spain in the Quarterfinals and either Australia or Argentina in the Semifinals. The other half of the bracket is France/Italy and Slovenia/Germany. I'm thinking the Gold Medal Game will be USA/Slovenia and the Bronze Medal Game will be Australia/France.

Talk about torrential rain today! I'm glad noone got injured during the women's 400m hurdles semifinals. It can't have been easy to compete under those circumstances. We had at least one fall, but how much that was caused by the rain or by fatigue is hard to say.

A Belarusian female sprinter attempted to defect yesterday at one of Tokyo's airports after her coaches tried to force her on a plane. She eventually sought asylum at the Polish embassy in Tokyo while her husband fled to the Ukraine.

In the Ukraine today, the Belarusian dissident who may have helped her and her husband was found murdered in a park.

    • I did not care, just clarifying that was the discussion point. If there are ice cream bars in Statesville I am sure there is a full spa
    • Seeing Peter Bergman (Jack) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) act opposite each other really makes me mad that their short-lived reunion in 2012 was just that... short-lived. I've always loved the Jack/Nikki pairing.
    • No.  I recall there was also a mention about how distracting it was EOB's Gwen wasn't wearing nail polish as well.  That it was someone's pet peeve. And, yes, the fact characters can have a manicure in prison is the wildest continuity issue here.
    • Can anyone remember Mary Ellen Stuart's run as Jenny? I'm trying to fill in the cracks for missing stuff that we overlooked.  Bulletpoints:  * Dated Ross * Rusty's police partner * Directly responsible for Dinah coming forward about George Stewart (Cam's father)
    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton twirling his invisible moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
    • It absolutely was; the narrative was there, and they followed it promptly. Maybe that's back when women had babies at young ages?!?!?
