I see the character as a bit dry and that's an acting choice. However, Mishael isn't in charge of her story, airtime, nor who she interacts with. That's not a contradiction.

I did enjoy her part in her story with her stalker ex for the most part.  What i didn't like about it was it centering Billy and Vikki. There were so many other choices for writers other than another Newman in peril.

Agree on this off screen origin story.

The reason is because union contracts exist. You can’t pay people like paupers because you want extras on a set.

Yes, the production in 1991 was incredible. It was also about 30 years ago, and the world of television is much different today. In ‘91, daytime profits bankrolled prime time, but that’s no longer true.

I do miss the elegance and sheer size of the sets, which have been diminished to the point of absurdity. If GH can afford larger sets, so can Y&R.

My problem with this choice of classic episode? They just ran it a few months ago. Why not run the follow-up episode instead of repeating the same one again? That made no sense to me.

I think they should look into a new studio. Likely they could find something cheaper that is also bigger. I know when AMC moved to CA, it looked really nice because you could tell they had more space. Similarly GH is watchable even when it’s bad because the sheer number of sets allows them to tell more stories and use characters in a way that isn’t boring because they all have homes and various public places to meet.

The sets have obviously been shrunk (Chancellor house, Abbott house losing the dining room) deleted (too many to name)and created (Society/Grand Pheonix/Newman'room')to fit as many standing sets into the studio as possible.

The lack of extras in those oft use gathering spaces , even pre COVID was noticeable.

I don't understand how the budget works, but surely a few thousand a week could be found to have some customers/clients in these places.

How much did Mal spend on the Dark Horse set that was barely used?

    • Aww I was hoping that Zimmerman would still do the breakdown like the last two episodes. But good to see Martin on script.    YASSSSSS DD YASSSSSSSSS!! Selling Nicole. The venom in her inflections.   'We'll see you leave in one piece.' Oooo Anita.
    • Or they'd make her a Dupree for equally valid reasons.
    • 'No...she won't.' Ooooo Silk Press Sheila...get him. And yassss to Anita getting it on. And Martin looks triggered. Flashback incoming...?   Awww Nicole.
    • Should've brought in the Tide Pods then... oh wait, is that too soon?
    • A talented soap opera writing team would accept the challenge of keeping Eva as Ted and Silk Press Dana's daughter... and having her co-exist amongst the classist Duprees.   However, the writing team seems pre-disposed to the easy way out so Eva will end up being Nicole's daughter... when we have far too many Dupree women in that generation and no hetero Dupree men in that generation. I'm tuning in now to watch the episode since I anticipate it being a stellar episode... but I'm hoping that May sweeps will start to move away from the B & B tendency of focusing on only one main tale at a time and also start beefing up the non-Dupree cast members and their stories. It's kind of why I don't mind Derek and Ashley since at least they're not connected to the Duprees... plus I find myself liking Vanessa/Doug also for that same reason.
    • Absolutely! From a technical standpoint, Phelps is a very well-done producer. She knows how to produce a soap from a visual focus. Creatively? Not always.
    • It's tiiiiiiiime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Interesting show. I liked very much the Shawn and Johnny talk, one tortured about shooting his dad, the other not so much (if he did it, which I doubt). Marlena was strangely empathetic to EJ which was a switch, and I liked him offering his Cat date to Chad. I want to see Cat given a personality by the new writers. Ron could not be bothered with her since she was dumped on him by the strike team and was too big a name for him to fire like he did poor BobbyEverett. So we got the awful Fabby story and then 2x a month airings with her acting like a spaz. I actually like the entire Greene family (apart from the mother) and would like to see more of them.   Highlight of the show was seeing Steve and Kayla act like the duo I remember from their heyday. I got a lump in my throat when she thanked him for loving her brother.
    • I know that VW thought it sounded like a good story when it was pitched to her.  I know that by the end of it she thought it was positively awful. I suspect that if we were to try to pinpoint when that changed, we might be pretty accurate. But, agree to disagree about her performance,  which of course, is never a big deal. Specifically, I do not think she phoned anything in. And, I attribute her slight accent from a certain point  on, to COUPLETS not to Justine.
