O'Neal had a very complicated life, but was a matinee idol and sterling talent with a protean, changeling quality people often underrated. His work in both the hysterical What's Up Doc? and the brooding, stylized, pre-Drive, etc. The Driver for Walter Hill is so far from what his typical image was. And he made it all look effortless.

From Lee Grant:

I feel like Ryan O'Neal has been a consistent part of my life for the longest time. From first seeing him in Bones as Brennan's criminal father, to gleefully binge-watching every episode of Peyton Place, to reading and hearing about his iconic pop culture relationships both romantic and familial, to listening to TCM's first season of The Plot Thickens about Peter Bogdanovich's career, to being enamored of Tatum O'Neal watching her hilariously damaged Maggie on Rescue Me which prompted me to read interviews about her, which would no doubt include her complicated relationship with her father, the latest being posted on THR just mere months ago, to seeing the cinematic masterpiece Paper Moon earlier this year. He's stayed relevant in my eyes as I, as a mere viewer, jumped around his crazy, exuberant, tortured life on-screen and off. RIP to a truly controversial, but fascinating figure. And yeah, the curious part of me awaits (respectfully and patiently) what Tatum will have to say.

R.I.P. to dub poet, activist and artist Benjamin Zephaniah whose poetry I found to be deeply poignant. I am glad people got to know of him through his role on “Peaky Blinders” though that is only a small part of his talents. And I will never not be tickled by the fact that, when offered the OBE, not only did he refuse it, he told everyone to take their Order of the British Empire and “stick” it.

We lost him too soon.

The great comic creator and artist Ian Gibson - of 2000AD, Judge Dredd, etc. fame and co-creator most particularly of the unfinished female sci-fi epic The Ballad of Halo Jones with Alan Moore - has passed away in the little time it's taken me today to revisit its gorgeous omnibus edition. What a legacy.

RIP Bob Miller, a costume designer who worked on several soap operas, including “General Hospital”. He passed away on December 9, 2023, at the age of 67, in Los Angeles, California. Miller was also a member of the Costume Designers Guild and worked on other TV shows such as “The Young and the Restless,” “Days of Our Lives,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful”

The above came from Bing Chat which is AI.

Shawn Reeves, current GH Costume Designer who said Bob is legendary, was talking with Lynn Herring last week during a fitting & they both were aware that Bob's health was failing. Friday night Lynn called Shawn to tell him that sadly Bob had passed. Between Jon Lindstrom & Shawn's comments to me, I feel that this is bonafide even though I'm still not finding an obit or death notice.

So, the GH family has lost one more. What a fracking year+!

(For some reason the system won't let me edit this into my prior post.)

    • I liked when Felicia was over the top and was more Felicia the writer than Felicia the mother figure. Personal taste as always. For me, Felicia was AW to me. She was one of the few constants on a show that was constantly changing.  RIP Denise Alexander. I always liked her on the show despite her storyline never reaching its full potential. The sad thing is I would watch that storyline in a second over so much of what happened on AW from 1986 onwards. Strangely, youtube recommended a AW episode to me last night that involved Mary comforting Scott about Dawn. I really do wish they had found a way to make those two characters work long term.

    • Yes, I like him too. He is a good actor, and I agree with your comments about his personality. I also want to add, I think that he comes across as realistic and IMO sane. Yeah, he's done some bad things, but he seems pretty in control for the most part and not the least bit crazy. I appreciate that type of behavior in someone who can behave like a villain. And I continue to buy that he really does love his daughters. Unlike Leslie who seems to only use and mistreat Eva, I have seen Bill soften when it comes to his daughters. And I do believe he would do what he felt he had to do to protect them. His love for his children, helps make him more layered as a character. I really enjoyed his scenes with Dani today. I enjoyed the show today. I thought that the scenes with Nicole being comforted by both her parents including them switching out to comfort her were sweet and cute. I particularly enjoyed her scenes with Vernon. I love her relationship with her parents. I also liked Tomas/Eva scenes. He genuinely seems to care about her, and I am interested in seeing how things will play out between them and him and Kat.
    • Dani really got on my nerves. Her own life is a total disaster, yet she interferes with everyone else's. What could she possibly say to Ted that will change anything? That will help anyone? And as you said, while she bashes Bill, she wants him back -- all the while knowing who he is and who he's been for years. None of these scenes are pushing me to appreciate Dani. -- OTOH, Bill got some very good shots in at Dani. He won that face-off. -- June is just a ball of cliches and stereotypes to this point. I hope this goes somewhere. -- Martin flies off the handle much too easily, but I did appreciate that he grew calm and subdued, and even sad, with Ted. -- I'm glad Tomas is pretty, because damn, that acting. -- I'm glad Derek looks so good in tight jeans, because damn, that acting. -- LMAO at Leslie gaining entrance to Nicole's house because Nicole wanted the front door ajar so Door Dash could leave her takeout.

    • No, we would really do it.  Those pix were so famous! In early May 1970 Susan introduced Doug Williams to Julie. Her intent was evil. But, it backfired on her. Doug & Julie fell in love. Everyone knows the rest of this story.
    • Doesn't matter if its off topic. No need to point it out. Things will get back on topic soon enough. They always do . . . And I do love the off topic photos from the Bill Bell era!  So thanks.

Thank you. I didn't realize there was confusion. You cleared it up.  It is more than crazy that this whole conversation is off-topic.
    • Sure!  And we promise, Mr Corday -- we will ridicule those wonderful old episodes daily on social media.   NOT!
    • "To give her child a name" just means to make the child legitimate and be able to take the father's surname.
