It's alarming when you think that soaps (on television but also on radio before) were marketed to appeal to white middle-class women first and foremost, and not much has changed there since inception.

But also, when you look at the writing for women in general on soaps, it's deplorable on what's supposed to be a female-first genre. That's not even getting into racial aspects that leave so much to be desired.

Nope! Abe & one of the pre-Renee Jones Lexie's got married off-screen while the two were temporarily living out of town.

That is...crazy. I mean, I knew Days was super white but Abe has been on the show for 40 years. Isn't he married to someone else now? They ALSO didn't get a wedding???

That's sad if it's true!

Someone once mentioned that the first time a black couple was given a wedding with a budget that was comparable to white couples was Hamp and Gilly's 1992 wedding on GL.

Can anyone verify that?

SourceRyan was here for years as "Ryan Chandler." Just typing that out brings back some good ol' SON memories.

That's not completely true. Ed Hall and Carla Gray had a lovely on-screen wedding back in 1972 on OLTL and the show coughed up money for a fairly large wedding party and special guests.
