Actors who were ungrateful for their soap gig

With Constance Wu acting ungrateful on twitter about FOTB, made me think: Which actors at one time or another were ungrateful abut their daytime drama stints. Ill Start:

OLTL's Erin Torpey talks in the OLTL book about a former love interest who complained from day 1 on how famous he would be. She told something to the degree that he just got here and to shut it. Even though he became the man of steel briefly, it didnt last. He seems more humbled now:  Brandon Routh (ex-Seth, 2001-02)

Another one: Robin Wright (Penn).  I can only imagine what goes through her mind whenever anyone asks her about SANTA BARBARA.

Conversely, Julianne Moore has never bad-mouthed HER time on ATWT, and she was almost TOO good for daytime.

Wings Hauser trashed his time on Y&R and said soap actors are full of crap when they say it's hard work. He said soaps are a hair show.

Meredith Baxter kind of poked fun at her time on Y&R in a recent interview, but sad she had respect for actors who spent their lives doing it on a regular basis.

Michael Park said he told Meg Ryan he was at her old stomping grounds (ATWT) when he met her. He said she looked like she wanted to run right through him and things got awkward.

Rue McClanahan in her Archive interview touched upon her soap stint (AW) and wanted to quickly move past discussing it.

Jay Kerr who played on Y&R in the early 80's trashed soaps and his stint. He said out of the things he has done people still remember him on the soap and can't figure out why. He said soaps were the bottom of the barrel and any actor would rather doing anything else than that. The Y&R credit is no longer listed on his IMDB page. He hasn't acted in decades, so how has that worked out for him ?

Meg Ryan hasn't been relevant since 2001 her trash talk is now completely irrelevant.

An interesting case was Brian Bloom, who in 2004 completely trashed his time at ATWT. As a response, it actually increased Grayson McCouch's acceptance in the role, as a McCouch was an actor who left moderate Hollywood and primetime success to return back to soaps. Bloom hasn't been re-interviewed again since and his career these days in vocal acting on cartoons and video games

Susan Ward was the lead heroine and star of Sunset Beach but ultimately trashed her entire time on the soap. Aside from the movie Shallow Hal, her career never panned out and she hasn't acted now since 2012. I wonder if she trashed Malibu Shores as well?

Conversely, Monica Potter does agree she was right to be let go as the first Sharon on Y&R as she said herself she was terrible.

Did she mellow out over time though? I recall SOD had caught up with her at and she said she wanted to go back but said success of The Princess Bride just made it impossible to return.

Keith Hamilton Cobb after he left AMC.

George Pilgrim gave a much-discussed interview after his abrupt departure from GL where he was talking about all the big things ahead and clearly had nothing good to say about soaps.

Cam Gigandet I believe did an interview a decade ago putting down his time on soaps. I said at the time that he didn't have a career worth getting so arrogant over and some fans insisted that was BS and he was just doing wonderfully. I wonder if they would still say that now.

With regards to Robin Wright, sometimes I cut her slack on her attitude toward the show because of all the drama she had surrounding the show while she was a cast member.

I'm just sorry the main talk show host to talk with her about her soap past is so wretched I can't sit through anything they do unless someone pays me.

Her returning for the finale was huge, so I have to imagine that she was grateful for her time there. And soap operas are a good training ground from what I've read so probably gained a lot of skill from being on the show.

Something about more heard him in TMNT then saw his 6 years on PC. But he sure didnt mind taking pay for 6 years and I liked Chris Ramsey & I hoped Chris woulda transplanted to GH

As for Demi its weird on talk shows shes been iffy on GH but John Stamos said that they had a great talk about GH back when the show turned 50

Plus Julianne it seems has mad love for Kathryn Hays & Don Hastings

This category should be NAMED after her! It really bothered me because MR was no great shakes on ATWT. Frankly, I was shocked when she gained movie fame basically playing in her same limited range.

Plus as @Khan notes: The irony is that her far more talented and successful ATWT alum Julienne Moore has always been appreciative of what the show did for her career,. @ReddFoxx JM requested to appear on ATWT after the cancellation was announced! And this was after she'd already received 4 Academy Award nominations.

    • It definitely did. Nothing major, but I clocked the minor changes too. Passions did something similar with its theme in the later years and people thought I was crazy, but the nuances are there if you're paying attention.
    • What? A nice little mini-marathon of catching up before work.    YES, PLEASE.
    • I guess they copied literally everything from that C&R scene, the dialogue etc
    • And even then...you have to wait a couple of weeks to be sure he's actually dead.

    • Apparently. lol.  Well you know I don't mind standing also with the cheese so
    • I have nothing to add. Everything you said is on point, and I don't know whether to laugh hysterically at it or throw things at the television. I do know it's terrible soap opera.
    • Characterization: - I realized I have PTSD from Ted #1’s constant swaying. The moment I saw NuTed, I actually caught myself thinking, “Why isn’t he rocking?” - Leslie makes very little sense from a storytelling perspective unless she’s completely psychotic. What was she hoping to achieve with all her dramatic reveals and aliases? Also… who wouldn’t put two and two together after Laura’s accident? - Anita and Dani come across as mean-spirited, and honestly, the Duprees should just be portrayed as full-on villains. Been saying this since day one—remember when Dani punched Haley and the whole Dupree clan just walked away from her with that “shame on you” look? Wrong on so many levels. Glad others are finally seeing it too. - Mona is sanctimonious and I can’t stand her. She’s the worst kind of person: lower-to-middle class but constantly making excuses for the rich. - Call me crazy, but I’m actually enjoying Ashley and Derek’s storyline. I’ll take this neurotic OCD queen over the sanctimonious, multi-talented nurse any day. Plus, soap couples are usually so plastic. They deal with insane drama but never go to the bathroom, never plan a weekend away. Look at Kat and Tomas—every scene is just them planning lunch or dinner…! - Btw by now André seems bored af by Ashley.   WTF Moments: - No young woman would be even remotely interested in going to a casino (looking at Eva). And it’s wild how the show is treating gambling like it’s some kind of therapeutic hobby—like retail therapy or something. - What are they doing with Smitty’s eyebrows… and more importantly, why?   Parallels with Other Soaps: - I like Nicole, but she reinforces my belief that soaps should never include psychiatrists. If they’re portrayed accurately, they ruin the fun by rationalizing everyone’s childish and selfish behavior. If they’re portrayed inaccurately (hi Taylor from B&B), it’s equally bad. - Anita’s story is giving major SSM vibes from 2017‘s Y&R, when Victor got Nikki to start playing the piano again.  - Karla played a model on B&B too…

Direction & Continuity: - Pascarelli is hands down the worst director this show has. - Wednesday’s episode started with a nighttime establishing shot of Orphey Gene’s… but all the scenes that followed were clearly set in daytime—until halfway through the episode, when it suddenly switched back to night. - The picture on the piano at the Duprees’ house shows two little girls and two little boys. Who are the boys? One could be Martin (or Tyrell?), but who’s the other kid? (And speaking of pictures… no one under 50 is walking around with a printed photo in their pocket. But I digress.) - I love catching the time on the phones when they pop up onscreen. Friday’s episode was supposedly set before lunch, but Vernon’s phone said 3:15 in one scene and 3:50 in the next. A few scenes later, Kat is playing Leslie’s audio for Jacob and her phone shows 10:40. Cool.
    • I forget that throughout the 80’s the TV seasons were officially over in April. Not sure why that was the case but it wasn’t until the mid-90’s that May Sweeps became a real official thing.  Because my teenage self stayed home often on Saturday nights in the early 90’s I watched Empty Nest just about every night to the bitter end, I do actually always felt a bit sad whenever I see that GG ep knowing that Rita’s character will die with that last line “Good night!” For years I admit I had the Mandela effect that Mulligan was in the episode before I finally caught it again on Lifetime.    And yes lol I don’t care for David Leisure’s character in the episode but somehow was funnier than anything on Empty Nest. Same when Charley crossed over for Dorothy’s Jeopardy dream.
    • Jon Lindstrom proved with Ryan Chamberlain on GH that he can play menacing and evil. He's not doing it here, and I think it's a combination of writing and performance.   To be fair, Longoria has modeled and has represented major companies like L'Oreal, but she was never a runway model. I don't have any problem with seeing Dani as a runway model. I think it's more than possible, and I don't understand anyone criticizing her look. I actually have a bigger problem with the whole "Anita is an EGOT" thing. I think it goes way too far. Give her a Grammy. Say she was nominated for a Tony, or even won. But an EGOT winner? No.   The fact that you're using DAYS to defend a BTG set is telling, since we all know DAYS is poverty level soapdom. I expect so much more and better from Gates.     I can't help it, but I'm LOL at the people defending that backroom bingo hall casino and making excuses for it. It's hilariously bad.
    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).
