Okay, the generic Heat of the Day promos were bad but the promos for the individual soaps appear to be a bit better.  This one got my attention because it serves as a reminder that Lauren and Paul were once a pretty popular couple.  Also, the mascara that soaps used to use was pretty cheap.

I guess I'm becoming an apologist for those Heat Of The Day promos, but I maintain that although the generic one that blanketed CBS Daytime was bad, the individual promos for each soap were better.

In this case, this ATWT promo for one of the funniest episodes I remember from that show-- this promo doesn't really do justice to how wacky this episode truly was.

It may be because it is Valentine's Days but I am starting to come around to the "Heat of the Day"  Two reasons, the editing of the scenes and the music is spot on which is not the same for the NBC promos.  Also, primetime only needs one promo a week, but daytime needs so much more which must have been difficult creatively.

BUT - "in the heat of the day/it's hot" is still an awful lyric

I like this one because of all the ways one could watch tv on the go before iphones - it was all of the convenience of carrying around a brick with cord

I had a Sony Watchman TV.  As I recall it was expensive, around $80 at the time, and I bought it to sneak a peek at Bo&Hope's wedding while in school.  Analog reception, with a dial that had to be tuned to the exact position, so it was impossible to move and watch a show, and a screen so small it makes an iphone look like imax.

A lot of the foreign soaps (which air in primetime or early evening) have had amazing promos with high production values. EastEnders has had quite a few great ones over the years. A U.S. soap would never had the budget or the promo time allotted (no corporate ads on the BBC) for something like these (and it’s much easier to license popular music in the U.K.).

I don’t watch EE so I have no clue if the stories were any good.

    • You can't have the entire cast on in one episode.  LOL They were not needed for this.  We didn't need to see what their reactions would be.
    • Yup, I went to my grandparents' anniversary party back in the day.

    • Really lame. That's their grandparents'

    • They said the teens had gone out for the night. With who? They have no friends to speak of. They should've been there at the party. The excuse was lame.
    • This is how I remember it, too. I remember Evie confronting Rita about her involvement with Tim when she knew she was in love with him. Bawling her eyes out, talking about how she dreamed of marrying and having children with him. It's amazing she and Rita stayed close after that. I don't recall who he left town with. Yes, Holly definitely evolved/grew up after she and Ed split. I remember Lynn Deering as Holly. She was very different from Maureen Garrett. I remember Garrett's first episode. She is a rare example of a recast who caught on with the audience fairly quickly. They were pretty much over--Evie saw them hug goodbye when Hope was about to leave town. She misinterpreted the kiss, fell down and hit her head. That's how she became blind. Robin Mattson was playing Hope at the time. If they didn't want Elvera back in the mid-80s, it could have been interesting if they had brought Robin back to play a Hope with more backbone.
    • "Make them laugh.  Make them cry.  Make them wait."  They nailed the wait part.
    • I really CAN'T with the two dolls comment. It's so cynical. So disgusting. A billionaire telling normal working people this is just... you can't make this sh-t up. That's comics villain level of vile.
    • This episode was on fire and definitely the best the show's done so far.  And of course the two big reasons were TMG and Ambyr Michelle who were phenomenal.  This could be both their Emmy reels.  Sad thing is they will probably be in the Supporting category so only one of them will win.   Claybon was pretty good when Martin confronted his dad. I'm glad to see he's improving.  I also liked that scene with Andre with Eva, showing some compassion with his cousin.  Now that the secret is out, Eva and Leslie can start to interact with more of the cast, like at the end of today's episode with Leslie showing up at the Dupree's.  And hopefully that will help the show be not as boring - this storyline was the only one that was truly interesting, and now it gets to branch out.  Minor nitpicks: bad editing during the Eva/Leslie/Ted scene by themselves, and when Bill was rubbing Hayley's feet.  They gotta clean this up.
    • It's the best episode ... in months.
