Laura Wright has been Carly since 2005.

She’s Carly. She’s fine in the role, and bemoaning that Carly is no longer played by some actress who left 100 years ago is a waste. To me, this is akin to repeating that Heather Tom is the real Victoria. Yeah, 100 years ago.

Laura's passable in the role. Carly's really not "Carly" anymore, there are shades, at times, some mentions of the past but it's not Laura's fault Carly isn't Carly, IMO. I don't mind her.

She's been Carly since 2005. She's not going anywhere.

And Ranger, it's cute you telling people what to talk about, when you complain about similar things on a daily basis.

With a recast, I would love this.  CL has no idea of subtlety.  She is not good bad girl material.  I would love a young vixen to come in and put CarScum thru the ringer and teach Carly some self awareness (altho that is a writing issue), but I need a recast.  The moment CL uttered "congratulations GRANDMA", I literally cringed.  When I think of young vixens, Erika Cane, Tina Lord, Delia Ryan, etc come to mind...not Smelle Benson.

Never cared for Sarah's wounded psycho Carly (but loved her as Claudia until the poison penis ruined her).  From the little I saw of Braun, she was laughable and the character became obsessed with Sonny.  I wouldn't care who LW played but her Carly has been the best for me.  Chem magnet and is fun in the role.  The hair is completely different post.  I think LW has sex appeal the other two lacked and again, she's fun to watch (but not lately).  However, how/if Carly works depends on whether or not the character can carry Benard.  LW can certainly carry that black hole but they are physically incompatible. She is too tall for him...couple this with her ability to run acting circles around him and SHE seems like a misfit because we know this is Benard's show, BTS.  I would love nothing more than for CarScum to end so that I can enjoy my favorite character again.  The work Garin Wolfe had done with Carly was completely undone by Frank.  I will always loathe him for that!

I think Laura is closer to Sarah's Carly in many ways, even if hers is evolved - with both of them, when they vowed revenge you knew they meant fuckin' business. I am fine with Laura in the role, though yes she should not be paired with MB. But Sarah is always the gold standard for me. That being said, all three of the majors have a following which is why they keep foolishly hiring them back. Either replace Laura with Brown or Braun or move on.

I think being a team player shouldn't be a factor in determining if an actor stays or goes.  If an actor isn't right, they should be let go.  Same with writers/producers.  Being a team player and not being a bit of a diva/heavy is why soaps have becomes sugar in quality.  Wendy riche, Gloria Monty were not team players 100 percent..and they helmed some of this shows best years...and Anthony Geary w asnt always a team olayer..same with Genie Francis all the time...etc.  it's the same with corporate America...the need to be a team player may make things run smoothly..but sometimes you need an occasional non team player to bring innovation and creativity.

Look at the shoestring budget for this show....Frank V works under budget thus the network thinks it can function well and continues to slash the budget.....while AMC got cancelled...they never stayed under budget and their production looked oretty decent up till the end...and they al9ing with GH under JFP got the money Frank V didn't use for OLTL.

I think LW is perfect for Carly as currently written. The HBIC. SB and TB wouldn't be credible playing any of this stuff. SB worked as a ballsy town pariah, which is why I loved her Claudia.

But I tend to be anti-recast unless the original actor (or the first actor I saw in the role) is incompetent or forgettable. So I'll always have a loyalty to Sarah Brown that I'll never have for Tamara Braun or Laura Wright (whom I loved as Cassie on GL, but very different character).

SB left, TB left. We spent an excruciating month with Jennifer "Georgie from OLTL" Bransford. LW has been Carly to me since she took over. Brown was raw, Braun was...meh, but I've always felt Wright has encompassed everything the character has been through over her twenty + years on the canvas, but that's JMO.

Hey, KMan, we’ve been down this road before. I realize you don’t like my style. Others give strong, assertive opinions and it’s apparently ok with you. I say it’s a waste to talk about replacing LW, and you say I’m telling people what to talk about.

i never told anyone what they can or can’t talk about. I gave my opinion — that it’s a waste because Laura Wright has been there forever and is doing a good job. Everyone has his own posting style. Sorry if I stepped on your toes again.

No stepping on toes. It's just how I took your post, I guess I took it the wrong way, so I apologize for that.

I'd prefer Sarah Brown in the role but Laura's passable to me. The writing for Carly has either been awful (Carly and Franco) or non-existent (there was a point Ron hardly used her) for the last several years. But Sarah to me will always be "Carly".

    • Regarding the NBC years of SFT. Joanna Lee did a good job. She gave Jo a great story and ratings rised but Joanna left because she hated the pace of daytime. I remember seeing Joanna Lee’s great big red hair one day outside the studio. lol Her hair exited the studio before she did.
    • Contra Costa Times,  2 January 1977 The three major TV networks are revving up for a daytime programming race. It promises to be an especially exciting one to watch, and an absolutely frustrating one as well for serial soap opera viewers. Eyebrows were raised when NBC announced that Its new serial starting Monday “Lovers and Friends" would be berthed in the 11:30 am time dot on Channels 3 and 4 against Nielsen ratings lion “Search For Tomorrow" on CBS Channels 5 and 10. NBC - TV has not had a late morning serial in its daytime line-up since the early 1960s. And to pit a new aerial against established shows is in the words of NBC vice - president of daytime programs Madeline David “a very courageous aggressive daring and I hope long term creative move" It's also audaciously calculating because the men who developed the new show are writer/ creator Harding Lemay and producer Paul Rauch. This team forged “Another World" into NBC's top rated and artistically successful daytime program. David states that "Nobody expects this or any other serial to do well overnight. A serial takes a year and a half before it begins to make any headway before it can develop a loyal following. But she is so enthusiastically positive about “Lovers and Friends" that it doesn't appear to faze her a bit that ABC programmers pulled a last minute surprise by shuffling the time slots of “AIl My Children" and "Ryan’s Hope" recently before NBC debuts its new product. On paper “RH” and “LAF" have similar formats - the interactions between a wealthy family and its less - well off neighbors. Identlfiable locales — New York and Chicago respectively. extensive locations shootings and an emphasis on exciting attractive young talent. The ABC move may put the double whammy on the soap simply because of "RH's” already tested and hopefully assured audience loyalty. On the other hand Lemay and Rauch's skilled efforts could very well steal the audience in this time period. ABC's move is also geared for the expected expansion of "All My Children" to an hour format in the spring
    • And still actively working. Happy belated birthday to the diva and fellow Gem.
    • Contra Costa Times, 2 January 1977 Meanwhile CBS and "Search For Tomorrow" have not been idly twiddlng their creative thumbs This week and next pop singer Melissa Manchester will be making guest appearances on the show. Miss Manchester's stint was one of those feckless larks that came about at what turns out to be a most propitious time While filming the CBS musical special "With Love” last month in Hollywood Michael Nouri (Steve Kaslo on "Search") and his wife photographer Lynn Goldsmith passed a dressing room where Melissa was preparing for a nighttime TV guest shot. Lynn and Melissa are chums from way back when but as they were having a reunion Melissa whispered Into Lynn’s ear "You won’t believe who's standing right behind you in the doorway. It's Steve Kaslo I watch him every day". Lynn nonchalantly answered “I know he's my husband". The singer Immediately pumped Michael about future plot developments on the serial while he quizzed her on her music. They joked "Wouldn't It be a goof for Melissa to appear on ‘Search’ since Michael's character la an aspiring musician - composer? She could play herself an artist interested In the career of a fellow singer" Search" producer Mary-ElIs Bunim took the suggestion seriously and voila Melisa Manchester comes to Henderson USA and convinces Steve Kaslo to go on a concert lour with her. During her appearances Manchester will sing a number of songs written by Michael plus material from her latest album "Help Is On The Way”.

    • 5-19   A mixed bag. On one hand, it's a pretty good episode. Amanda's return is having immediate impact. And I'm here for everyone in Damian's orbit. On the other hand, it still had an air of stalling out this Dumas storyline which has immediately gotten annoying. Okay been annoying. Side-note...Sally is just wasting away being with Billy.   The Bad for Me:   We get more attention on Summer now that she's not on the canvas than we did when she was still on the canvas. It just seems like JG is butthurt that AL left. No one to blame, but himself.    I know we are not going to have Amanda against Billy/Sally. A waste of an actress. Speaking of Amanda, I don't think I will ever get used to the Giggly Heffa/Amanda friendship.   Why mention Jill and that she's retired...which sounds like we are NEVER getting Jess Walton back btw...and have Amanda tell Billy to make amends with her...if she's not coming back?   What was Good for Me:   Just Amanda's presence. Her meeting with Devon, Billy, and Nate. Her meeting with Giggly Heffa. Her meeting with Billy and Sally. And just the air of mystery that MM is giving to Amanda. That intrigues. And to be clear...is the dialogue saying that she knows who Dumas is because she has seen him face-to-face or do they video-talk or move through his assistant? I was unclear. But it would be VERY interesting if she has seen his face and know who it really is.    Awwww at Amy and Damian reaching a point where they are completely getting along. But I liked the scenes with them and Nate, Devon, and Lily. And Damian and Lily...I like of course.
    • I watched that cow Reva tell Trish she was dumping HB in utter disbelief. When even Trish is staring at you like you are an ungrateful bitch, all because of a guy you met six months (or so) ago, you are a 'ho. How Reva and Zimmer survived this clunker remains a mystery to me. Were she and Kyle really that well received? Or did the writers realize they'd gone too far and write Reva's suicide attempt to softly reboot the character? Nowadays, David definitely would've been crushing on Kyle and jealousy over being rejected by him after Kyle found the Lewises would've driven him to try and kill him. Rick/Mindy FTW. I think Michael and Krista really were sparkly.  I understand what they were trying to do with Kurt, but BLECH.

    • I think Telma and Jonelle are too old.  Tonya Pinkins is a good choice.
